Incredible control over audio and MIDI, with a fast, intuitive workflow

Whether you're working with audio, MIDI, or both, Bitwig Studio never gets in the way of your workflow. It's almost effortless to record in audio, slice it on the fly, send the slices to a drum machine or sampler for creative triggering. Hybrid Tracks let you keep audio and MIDI on the same track, perfect for bouncing a virtual instrument's output to audio while keeping it on the same track lane for a tidy arrangement window. With both track- and clip-based editing, transient detection and time stretching, parameter histograms, per-note micro-pitch control, and much more packed into a very elegant interface, Bitwig Studio is at once easily approachable and incredibly powerful.

Unlimited creative potential with Unified Modulations

Bitwig Studio's Unified Modulations feature is a dream come true for many musicians at Sweetwater. Basically, you can use Bitwig's LFOs, envelopes, and other modulation sources to control virtually any parameter you like. For example, you can assign the LFO on your synthesizer patch to also modulate the wet/dry mix of a delay plug-in, while simultaneously controlling the pan position of a different track altogether. This not only speeds up your workflow, it gives you incredible creative potential. If you've ever worked on a complex sound or project and wished there was an easier way to automate everything, you'll love Bitwig Studio.

Rock-solid platform for live performance

The layout of Bitwig Studio may already be familiar to performing electronic musicians - you can arrange audio and MIDI clips as you go, trigger different scenes and tweak effects in real time, and even adjust tempo on the fly. Bitwig Studio was built from the ground up for reliable live performance. One of our Sweetwater's favorite features is that Bitwig Studio runs your VST instruments and effects separately from the host program, so if one of your 3rd-party plug-ins crashes Bitwig doesn't skip a beat. You'll see a warning that one of your plugs crashed, but your project will keep playing without it. You can re-instantiate your plug-in and bring it right back in, without time-consuming - and embarrassing - break in your flow.

Ready to integrate with any and all of your control surfaces

Whether you already have a favorite keyboard controller or mixing control surface, or want to build your setup as you go, Bitwig Studio is ready to comply. Many popular controllers are ready to work with Bitwig Studio right out of the box. Even better, an open javascript API is available to create your own custom controller mappings. So even if you haven't even figured out yet what your ideal control surface setup is, Bitwig Studio will be ready for it.

Outstanding instruments and effects to create with

Bitwig Studio is ready to support both 32- and 64-bit VST plug-ins, and it also comes with over 50 amazing processors and instruments that sound fantastic and are considerably light on your CPU. From synthesizers, samplers, and drum machines to auto-filters, frequency modulators, delays, and other effects, Bitwig Studio starts you off with a complete toolset for music production and sound design. Over 3GB of sound content is included too, including samples, loops, and instruments.

It's worth just about every penny

I've been using daws and the like for over 10 years. Bitwig is something like the younger brother of Ableton live. If your thinking that this is live's twin, it's not. Look at the price; Bitwig could be for you. Try the demo. No crashes eh? Oh, you like to bounce tracks? Oh, you have a data science background and would love to make music? Ok, you open your go to daw and notice that your missing audio files to your project because you were just trying to manage the space on your harddrive no? Yeah, I could go on for on for hours but I like to optimize my workflow. Have fun!

State of the Art production software

Bitwig Studio has been quite amazing for me. I avoided it for the first year it was out, knowing there'd be bugs, and honestly not really seeing what it was about. However, once they started fixing bugs and adding the new featured in 1.1 and 1.2, I knew it was worth checking out. What particularly motivated me was that they seem to just get exactly what producers need these days - 1. Clean organization - not messy pop up windows (like Cubase), but resizable, dockable areas - yet without giving up flexibility, which Live does; 2. plugin delay compensation - this is the main reason I switched back to Cubase from Live; 3. Strong connection between clips and timeline arrangement - this has to be used to be understood; the ability to see and use both clip launching and timeline is crucial; maybe Live 'can' do some of these things, but with the screens split (or at best, on different monitors with the dual screen mode), but this is exactly what I wanted. Maschine is also very good and clip-based music production, and getting an arrangement from the clips, but then it falls a bit short for getting to a final track. So far, Bitwig has really let me keep things arranged into scenes, and never difficult to go back from the arrangement to edit a part and know I've got it stored separately from the timeline representation. 4. Automation - I've been waiting since 2001 for something this easy to use; for example, whatever the last knob you touched was with the mouse, that will be at the top of the list of your automation parameters! No recording something to get it to show, or wading through three menu levels to set the automation lane. This is quick and intuitive and doesn't get in your way. Also I love how it cleans up your data points when you draw so that you don't have hundreds of points, just a point on the grid lines. I am sure other software can be customized to do this (or maybe not!), but Bitwig just gets the default behavior right. Having the automation per clip, and not only that, but still being able to be modulated by automation on the track (either multiplied, or added/subtracted, by the track automation for the same parameter), is also crucial. 5. Audio clip editing - this is also a killer feature. Normally this is why one might get stuck in the arrangement view (or mixing down audio clips in a separate software). In Bitwig, you can add all different audio files within one clip, and re-arrange them and edit them non-destructively. Basically, it's giving all the power of any other daw's audio track, but in one CLIP. Basically, I feel like this is where audio software should have been by this time. It feels just about as close as software can get to letting you get your ideas down and edit them and work on them without getting bogged down in 'computer' land.

I did check 5 stars saying "wow blown away" but there are still some bugs Bitwig needs to work out. However bitwig is incredible to use and in the last month it has been out i have been making music in different ways than i have ever before. Anyone who is looking for another DAW to get familiar with i 100% reccomend Bitwig
