Loads of exciting new features
With version 6, Bitwig Studio has added numerous workflow-enhancing features, starting with a major overhaul of automation editing. Bitwig Studio 6 lets you access and control curves in Automation Mode or the Detail Editor Panel while keeping your Arranger organized. It also introduces gestures that highlight curve segments, allow point overwriting, and support effortless adjustments via Time Selections. New automation behaviors include spread, which adds randomized variation, and hold, which maintains flat values between points. Moreover, you can now control segment curvature in the Inspector. You also get an improved Pencil tool that automatically refines freehand shapes into clean curves and a new Spray Can tool that quickly lays down held points at grid intervals. Beyond that, Automation Clips enable looping, independent start times, sliding, stretching, aliases, and seamless transitions between clip-based and track-based automation, with linked behavior to parent clips until manually edited.
Bitwig Studio 6 introduces project-wide key signatures that help guide your note choices. You can see scales in the Piano Roll, and you’ll benefit from harmonious editing with Snap to Key, the Pencil tool, and the Spray Can tool, while Quantize to Key snaps existing notes or clips to your chosen scale. In addition to note selection, key signatures drive note FX, such as the Arpeggiator and other note‑shifting devices, through a Use Global Key option, allowing harmonic movement via automation, remote controls, or modulators across your project. You also get overhauled editors, enabling you to see and do more than ever before. Expression editing lets you adjust gain, pressure, and other expressions directly on notes, all of which remain available in the folded Drum/Hybrid editor and benefit from the new automation gestures. What's more, improved layered editing enables you to work across multiple clips simultaneously, while the Detail Editor Panel and full-screen Edit View adapt to your session, displaying notes and audio lanes side by side.
On top of everything, Bitwig Studio 6’s refreshed visual design offers a smoother, more customizable user experience. The editing tools are now arranged as a palette on the right side of the screen; grid appearances can be adjusted through the Editor Settings menu in the bottom‑right corner, and right‑clicking at the top of the window provides you with speedy access to project‑wide visual controls. Track headers are more dynamic, shrinking when needed and revealing additional controls when space allows, and they work seamlessly with the new Arranger Auto Zoom feature, which enlarges the selected track or lane while keeping everything else in place. Finally, Bitwig Studio 6 refines both sequencers: the Clip Launcher now displays clip position and loop count for each track, and clips in the Arranger reveal the beat grid lines behind them for clearer visual guidance.

Beyond mere envelopes
Bitwig Studio includes five different kinds of multi-segment envelope generators (MSEGs) — Segments, Curves, Scrawl, Transfer, and Slopes — that can be used as Grid modules, two of which are also available as modulators. Segments empowers your creativity, enabling you to draw envelopes with as many points as you need and loop them at will. Curves paints geometric patterns onto a changing beat grid to form a unique LFO. Scrawl allows you to draw oscillators to craft ear-grabbing waveforms at any pitch. Transfer is your new go-to tool for making custom waveshapers. Slopes rounds out this killer cache of MSEGs, arming you with a phase-driver sequencer with a deep level of control.
Powerful audio comping ensures spot-on performances
If you're trying to create the perfect performance (and who isn't?), Bitwig Studio's advanced comping capabilities make it easy, enabling you to combine the best parts of many takes. At Sweetwater, we appreciate how each take is assigned its own color — it makes keeping track of what's what a piece of cake. And because comping lives inside of your audio clips, you're able to deploy it in both the Clip Launcher and Arranger. Beyond that, you can right-click on any audio clip to fold it into takes. Or just drag audio into a new take lane — whatever best matches your workflow.

The Grid ensures endless sound creation possibilities
Among Bitwig Studio's most exciting features is The Grid, a modular sound design environment boasting 154 modules. Two new devices, Poly Grid and FX Grid, enable you to craft everything from synthesizers and sequenced patches to audio effects with optional voice stacking. The Grid sounds amazing, and its lightning-fast workflow ensures that you'll be creating in no time — just add a Grid device to your project and start patching!
Speed up your workflow with fades and crossfades
Working in Bitwig Studio is fast, thanks to its enhanced workflow. Place fades and crossfades in the arranger timeline or audio editor. Or create fades for audio events inside clips. Then tweak their curve slopes to your heart's content. On top of that, crossfades are automatically created when you overlap clips to prevent unwanted pops and clicks.

World-class time stretching regardless of project tempo
No matter what your project's tempo is, you can keep your audio in time with Bitwig Studio, thanks to its advanced time stretching capabilities. You can let Bitwig Studio analyze and stretch your audio automatically or take full control with the software's advanced stretching and editing tools. Whatever your needs, this feature-packed DAW includes eight different time stretching algorithms, including four flavors of zplane's renowned élastique engine.
Excellent integration for your hardware synths and modules
In-the-box music creation is the wave of the future. That said, true synth aficionados love their hardware. Bitwig Studio makes it easy to integrate your favorite synthesizers, modules, drum machines, and more into your workflow. Its sync and note timing are top shelf all the way. There's also a slew of devices that make integrating your favorite hardware machines via MIDI or CV/gate a walk in the park.
