A New Addition to the EB Lineup

Gibson is adding to their iconic electric bass guitar line with this EB 4 Bass 2017. Its ergonomic contours and 34" scale length make it the most extreme-looking bass in the long legacy of the EB line. The EB 4 Bass features a swamp ash body and maple neck for a clear and punchy acoustic voice. That voice is beautifully translated by the dual Gibson EB humbucking pickups into a thick and powerful low-end attack. And the straightforward electronics package of two volume and one tone knob make the EB 4 Bass effortless to dial into your rig.

Newest addition to the EB legacy

Gibson released their first electric basses in the 1950s. Many of those designs featured extremely warm-sounding humbucking pickups and shorter scale lengths that gave them an identifiable voice that was immediately adopted by many bassists of the classic rock era. Throughout its history, the EB line has included 335-style semi-hollow construction, compact SG designs, and more. And they've been seen in the hands of such bass luminaries as Cream's Jack Bruce. The EB 4 Bass is the latest addition to this iconic line of instruments.

Thoroughly modern construction

The Gibson EB 4 Bass 2017 is crafted with a very modern look and feel, which is ideal for today's players who are looking for clarity, punch, and power. The bass's 34" scale length is the most popular design because of its balance of playing comfort and punchy tone. The bass is crafted with a swamp ash body and maple neck that add huge amounts of low and highs to the bass's character. And you'll find a genuine Babicz Full Contact bass bridge anchoring the strings for yet another level of singing sustain and stability.

Simple to use electronics

The EB 4 Bass 2017 is a very versatile instrument, and eliciting that wide range of tones is incredibly easy. The dual Gibson EB humbucking pickups push a lot of power to ensure you receive maximum low-end punch from the passive electronics. There are many fans of passive designs at Sweetwater. And the EB 4 Bass's dual volume and single tone setup boasts the dynamics and warmth that can't be achieved any other way.

Gibson EB 4 Bass 2017 Features:
  • 4-string passive bass guitar
  • 34" scale length is comfortable and familiar
  • Dual Gibson EB humbucking pickups provide a muscular sound
  • Swamp ash body offers warm lows and a clear top end
  • Maple neck is capped with a rosewood fretboard
  • Babicz full-contact bridge adds sustain and stability
  • Straightforward electronics package
Gibson's EB Bass 4-string 2017 is a powerful addition to a legendary line.

Sweetwater Advice

Gibson EB 4

The smooth and natural texture of the EB 4's neck felt great in my hand - like the handle of a broken-in Louisville Slugger. The frets were even, well dressed, and their edges perfectly flush with the fretboard. After I plugged the EB into a Gallien-Krueger 400RB and Ampeg 8x10 pairing, I dimed the bridge volume and master tone, and lowered the neck volume to about 30 percent. The cabinet roared with a bright and articulate sound that was supported by an ample amount of thunderous low end. The EB's upper-midrange frequencies were particularly responsive to changes in my pick attack. When I gingerly fingerpicked delicate passages, the frequencies tended to relax and put less focus on the sound of my fingers striking the strings. Likewise, when I switched gears and struck the strings with more force, the upper mids jumped out and focused the attack - instantly morphing the tone's vibe from bluesier rock to a more aggressive, prog-friendly thump....
