Alan R. Pearlman, passionate about both electronic music and the piano, created ARP Instruments in 1969. The large modular ARP 2500 was an initial success, but the company really broke out with the unveiling of the ARP 2600 in 1972. Such famous players as Stevie Wonder, Joe Zawinul (Weather Report), Tony Banks (Genesis), Jean-Michel Jarre, and Herbie Hancock made the instrument a core part of their sound.
