A classic tonewoods combination - Sitka spruce and Milagro Brazilian rosewood

The milagro tree is the source of the premium Brazilian rosewood used in this special-edition acoustic's back and sides. Its distinct patterning and glassy sustain take the 916ce look and sound to a whole new level. According to Taylor, this is among the best Brazilian rosewood that Bob Taylor and Andy Powers have seen in their guitar-building careers. It's called Milagro (translation: "miracle") for a reason, Bob says: "This is the kind of Brazilian rosewood guitar builders would have used 100 years ago on pre-war guitars. It's as fine-grained as spruce, with a lot of grain lines per inch. When you tap it, it's like a piece of glass. It has an incredible tap tone." A standard Sitka spruce top adds projection and top-end sparkle for great balance and articulation that shines in the studio. Standard 900-series appointments, like intricate Ascension fingerboard inlays, ebony binding with koa/paua purfling, and a striking paua soundhole rosette, add a touch of flash to the guitar.

Grand Symphony body style gives you balanced sound and incredible projection

Taylor's Grand Symphony body style, featured on this Taylor 916ce acoustic-electric guitar, is a more modern take on the sleek Grand Auditorium shape, but with the waist moved up toward the neck. This gives this 916ce a slightly larger lower bout for an excellent blend of power and projection, without losing the high-end definition of the Grand Auditorium body style.

Taylor's Expression System 2 delivers incredibly natural sound with full dynamics

If you play plugged in, then you're going to love the Taylor Expression System 2 (ES2) electronics built into your 916ce Grand Symphony acoustic-electric guitar. The key to this fantastic system is its 3-section proprietary pickup. Because of where it's positioned and how it's integrated into this 916ce's saddle, the ES2 pickup provides you with remarkably clear and accurate sound. In addition to a master volume control, a pair of tone controls lets you tweak your highs and lows to get the sound you need, and a discreet phase switch offers vital onboard feedback suppression. We were more than impressed when Taylor came to Sweetwater to show us what this system can do, and we think you will be too.

Taylor 916ce Milagro Brazilian Rosewood Grand Symphony Acoustic-electric Guitar Features:
  • An acoustic-electric guitar with a punchy yet balanced voice

Taylor 916ce Milagro

I can only echo the comments of the previous reviews. I have always been impressed by Taylor quality and workmanship. I'm not an expert and only an average player but I can offer a fair comparison based on my experience with with many other fine acoustic guitars. Sweetwater had two to choose from. I made the trip to Fort Wayne and they left me in a private room to play and examine both for as long as I needed to make my choice. Quite honestly the differences were negligible, both were absolutely gorgeous. The opportunity to actually own one of these Milagro Brazilians is a privilege. The finish and workmanship on the 916 Milagro surpassed my expectations. Considering these were new guitars without play time I was amazed at the tone and sustain. Playability was perfect, action set just how I like it. Thanks to my Sales Engineer Paul Rowan for guiding me through the process again. His knowledge and assistance was really helpful. This trip I took along my wife who was equally impressed with the Sweetwater facility and showrooms. Thanks again Paul and Sweetwater!

Absolutely Prodigious

I've been searching for the sound the Milagro Brazilian Rosewood produces since 1993. I've owned Koa, Cocobolo, Brazilian Rosewood, Mun Ebony, Mahogany, and Maple solid wood guitars. All of these woods are very good and offer many opportunities to be used to express their unique sounds. But truly I was blown away by the incredible warm, extremely diverse, and very balanced sound the Milagro Brazilian Rosewood delivers. It truly covers the frequency of the lows, mid, and high notes very well. I've played the Taylor Grand Auditorium for several years and with encouragement form my sales rep decided to try the Grand Symphony. Truly the combination of this wood and body size have broadened my style greatly. I play many styles of music but this guitar has allowed me to really be passionate about sharing my unique style freely without distorting the sound due to my aggressive nature on some songs. I was so impressed with the Milagro Brazilian Rosewood I had an opportunity to make a second purchase for the Milagro Brazilian Rosewood Grand Auditorium and without delay I absolutely made the purchase. This is an extremely rare wood to find any guitar builder building but equally rare to find being sold anywhere. Should the opportunity present itself I encourage strongly this purchase. Please consider that the Milagro Brazilian Rosewood is my personal preference and I know that there are many very prodigious woods that offer personal flavors that meet the needs of each persons style. This is my favorite wood that absolutely offers the most balanced well rounded sound for my personal style. This is not a guitar I will use to play live performances with rather use it to record with only. But don't be fooled as this guitar is one that begs for attention and is extremely addictive. I play my Milagro Brazilian Rosewood guitars daily and truly look forward to the next day when I can play them again. My purchase and comment of this guitar is not about creating an argument that the Milagro Brazilian Rosewood is better than many of the phenomenal other solid wood guitars built today. It's simply a personal observation by a very fortunate and very blessed person who was able to make this rare purchase. I understand that different genres of music almost require a specific wood to be used. My style of music is very diverse and influenced by alternative rock to bluegrass and absolutely everything in the middle. I've found the Milagro Brazilian Rosewood to be the perfect compilation of many incredible solid wood guitars wrapped into one very prodigious wood. But the Milagro Brazilian Rosewood also compliments my own unique original style as well. In fact it has truly given me my own identity because of it's incredible unique sound. Because I play many styles and have created my own unique style I do currently own Cocobolo and Mun Ebony solid wood guitars. Strongly consider that these guitars are an investment and need to be taken care of with a great deal of appreciation. I always keep my guitars at 47% to 53% humidity and have placed hygrometers in each guitar case to assure accurate constant humidity. Truly the Milagro Brazilian Rosewood is one of many great examples of Gods hand in creation and the beauty that come from within. I hope you find this review to be helpful and that it might give you a better understanding about your personal decision to make or not make this purchase. And finally I can't complete this review without giving a shoutout to the greatest Sweetwater Sales Rep I've had the absolute tremendous pleasure of doing business with since I made my first purchase at Sweetwater in 2005. Truly I've been blessed to work with really awesome folks at Sweetwater who have all had a great deal of knowledge and strengths respectively. But when I received an introductory call from Jimmy Hart for the first time I was very impressed with his immediate devotion to my personal musical needs. Truly I know there are many amazing folks at Sweetwater that work together to make every purchase and experience a positive and memorable one. I've been blessed to work with many but truly none like Jimmy Hart. Honestly I love this dude like family and I truly know Jimmy Hart far greater than just another guy that creates and ships an order for me. Jimmy Hart truly delivers a musical buying experience that is second to none. I'm honored and proud to call Jimmy Hart a friend and trusted music compadre.

Very beautiful, classy guitar

I've had this guitar for about two weeks now and I love it more each day. I'm still getting used to the medium gauge strings (my old fingers are just used to light gauge) but the tone is very rich and the sound projects well. I figured this was a last chance to get a new Brazilian Rosewood guitar and the history of the Milagro tree makes owning one of these guitars even more special. It makes a good companion to my Taylor PS56ce 12-string and my other acoustics. Thanks to my sales engineer, Chris McCown, who went the extra mile and played both the 916 and the 914 and gave me his thoughts on each one, and after I purchased this exquisite guitar, he made sure he got it shipped to me as quickly and timely as possible. You just don't find that service with other dealers. This is a must for any Taylor fan or someone just looking to purchase a great new Brazilian Rosewood guitar.
