Creamy Drive

First of all, the aesthetics of this pedal are sublime. I don't know why but it's just a beautiful pedal to look at. Also, for those that don't know, the 805 is Central California/Santa Barbara, and if you've ever driven the 101 in the summer in that location, it's a mind**** of a views. So, the concept of the design execution speaks to me.Most importantly though, let's talk about the drive. Increasing the drive adds a slight but noticeable crunch when the eq is unaffected. I have a Vox Nighttrain and it has great cleans... Cleans that don't breakup real quickly... Which is a flavor that I don't find extremely inspiring... But the channel takes extremely well to pedals. I run Fender HSS/Texas Special Neck/Seymour Duncan Hotrail Middle/Fender Custom Humbucker > through the 805 and into the amp........ The sh*! sounds like a gotda@$ed Saxophone in the mid to highs... Solid but hollow in the bottoms. Real glassy, real creamy, real clear. Just brilliant. The eq is great, too... It's kind of self explanatory. I like that I can affect the treble on my Marshall amp in the higher gain range and then transparently open the sound back up on the pedal. Helps reduce that Marshall sizzle/tube hiss but still maintain some top. Any pedal eq will do that really, but to be able to do so much on one pedal is dope. There's not much more to say except that this pedal is the real deal. Tastefully executed concept. Never selling it.

Great pedal!!

Great tone and versatile! You can go from just a little bit of dirt to almost a a saturation point! Excellent to push the front end of an amp to get a lead tone!

Great little dirt box!!

Have tried lots of different distortion and overdrive stomp boxes over the years. Love the 805 for responsiveness and adjustability. As always, with my Sweetwater rep, Jeremy Clifford, customer service is exceptional, fast and informative!

surf green overdrive

For a while, I have been relying on two old pedals for occasional boost. I have a Dunlop Crybaby Q-zone pedal that does work as a nice cocked-wah style boost. However, that always cut the low end a little too much. My old DOD Corrosion pedal was just too noisy to use consistently. I picked up one of the Seymour Duncan 805 Overdrive pedals a few nights ago and finally got to give it a run today through an old Crate combo amp. Ibanez RGD Prestige > 805 Overdrive > Crate GX212+ with Celestion G12H-80 speakers The SD 805 definitely adds that little bit more push with some bite on the high end. Trying it with the level at about 7, the drive at about 2, treble slightly cut, and mids slightly boosted gives exactly the type of boost I was wanting. It even made the old Crate combo sound huge and tight. I am looking forward to trying it in front of my Mesa/Boogie rig. I would definitely recommend this pedal for anyone looking for a boost or overdrive pedal. This thing is awesome! The surf green paint job on the pedal looks awesome too.

Versatile Overdrive

I've dialed in a variety of different tons using this guy, I kind of like it at the beginning of my chain to act as a light overdrive that tightens up other OD/fuzz pedals. Favorite setting is level around noon and drive around 1-2 o'clock with Bass around 3 o'clock and mids scooped a little. It also sounds great to give clean channel some hair and life. Overall the sound output is mostly light and creamy not thick and nasty. Great alternative to traditional tube screamer with ability to dial in way more sounds.

Sweetwater Advice

Seymour Duncan 805

The real surprise came when the gain was cranked. The 805 produced an amazingly crunchy metal tone (it does have 36 dB of gain handy) and with the added EQ controls I could dial out some flabby low end and scoop the mids - bonus! ...
