Reviews

It’s a tube screamer, but clearer
There is no wrong configuration with this pedal, the controls are very musical and the ranges are wide but not excessive, I previously had a TS9 and although it was good OD, sometimes I wanted to have more treble sound and I couldn't, with this pedal you kill two birds with one shot, sometimes it works as a transparent Booster at others as a powerful and mid-focused Overdrive for solos, plus you get more gain than the TS9
This is THE overdrive your looking for
Omg this pedal has a lifetime spot on my pedal board, it really is the main creator of my sound. I love high gain and this 805 just threw it over the roof. What a sound, what a feeling.
Great Screamer!
Over the years, I've owned and gigged with a number of Tube Screamer-type pedals - original TS-9, Soundtank TS-5, 808-modded TS-9, JHS Bonsai, and so on. The Seymour Duncan 805 Overdrive is the most versatile Screamer pedal I've used. The 3-band EQ is perfect for dialing in just the right tone, and it has more than enough gain for anything I need. It feels great to play through - very touch sensitive. My criteria for an overdrive is that it has to sound and feel so good that I don't want to stop playing. The 805 definitely does that.
Flexible Tube Screamer
I needed a good, flexible OD for my smaller, second board. I was using a a Maxon OD-9 and it sounded good but I needed a little more clarity and boost. The 805 did the trick, side by side I can get them to sound very close, the main difference being in the feel, the OD-9 is more compressed and I do like the way it feels for leads. The 805 had more clarity and could get more "grind" and the same time pushing a cranked Marshall JCM800.

"Pro Tip" for running this into a cranked Marshall: If you boost the mids to about 2:00/2:30, cut the bass and treble to about 10:30, set level to max and set drive to 9:00 - 11:00 you can nail old-school Celtic Frost tone (Morbid Tales/To Mega Therion) and it gets really close to classic 80s era Slayer tones as well. You can dial in your own sound with it too thanks to the EQ, it's a great OD for boosting a cranked/dirty amp.
Music background: 39 years of Iron & Rust
Love This Pedal!
Sure, this box will fill the role of the traditional TS, but it does so much more. The 3-band EQ on this thing is very sweet and flexible. I like to keep it clean and stack it ahead of other dirt pedals to give them a nice push during solos, or just on its own to warm up my clean tones. Thank You, Seymour! This is a keeper.
