Eurorack Sampling and Real-time Reimagining

For too long, the realm of sampling has been seen as something entirely incompatible with Eurorack synthesis. While we know this isn’t true, 4ms has launched an aptly named 12HP Eurorack module that makes sampling in synthesis more accessible than ever: The Sampler. Using a microSD card, audio can be painlessly played, recorded, reversed, pitched up or down, and looped, opening new doors of performance and production possibilities for Eurorack rigs of any size. An included microSD card comes preloaded with hundreds of audio samples, and since all you need to record is a card, recordings can be as long as your card’s memory can accommodate! Samples are arranged into audio banks, which can then be selected from groups of 10, with starting positions and playback duration easily attenuated manually or via CV. Synthesists at Sweetwater appreciate the addition of the End Out jack, making for easy, streamlined synchronization for chaining loops together or cascading into other events.

4ms Sampler Features:

  • mircoSD card makes for easy sample storage, recording, and retrieval
  • Included card comes loaded with hundreds of samples to immediately explore their integration into your rig
  • Capable of mono or stereo operation, allowing for flexible use with most setups
  • Audio samples are organized into 60 banks of 10 samples, giving you 600 total samples available at any given time, of any duration
  • Intuitive controls let you easily select samples, adjust pitch, determine starting position, and dictate length, as well as engage the reverse mode
  • Deep CV/trigger controls ensure playback is always a painless process, regardless of your arrangement
  • End Out jack makes for seamless looping or cascading samples with other events

Reviews

A perfect option for me.
I just received mine. I haven't had more than an hour with it. The only other sampler I've used is what's sort of a secondary function of the Strymon Magneto. With almost no prior experience, I was able to get the 4ms Sampler up and running right away. I only glanced at the manual, but it does seem worth reading through. I don't see myself using the stock sample card it came with, but they are mostly pretty general and could be useful. For the most part, like sounds are grouped together in the same bank. I was looking for a sampler that can record longer times and can hold a lot of material, but that wasn't overly complicated to use. Luckily, I seem to have found the perfect option.
Music background: 20 + yers gigging and recording.
