Protect Your EV RE20 or RE27N/D Microphones!

The Electro-Voice 309A suspension shock mount was designed specifically for use with the RE20, RE27N/D, and RE320 dynamic microphones. It provides near-perfect shock isolation for the already internally shock mounted RE20, RE27N/D, and RE320. For most applications, the Model 309A may be attached directly to the recording boom or to a floor stand. A stand adapter with 5/8" -27 thread is provided.

The 309A mount design allows quick installation of the RE20, RE27N/D, and RE320 microphones without tools. A double safety factor is provided to ensure that the microphone will remain attached to the shock mount under any conditions. First a "bayonet" locking action assures that the microphone will not fall out of the shock mount under its own weight. Additionally, a set screw (wing type) can be tightened to lock the microphone in place after it has been properly positioned.

Four molded neoprene shock cords suspend and support the microphone within an aluminum and steel frame-work to effectively isolate it from mechanical shock and vibration.

Electro-Voice 309A Suspension Shock Mount Features:
  • Total shock isolation for RE20, RE27N/D, and RE320 microphones
  • Threads directly to most mic stands or booms
  • Included 5/8" - 27 thread adapter included
  • Mics install in seconds with no tools needed
  • Neoprene cords suspended in an aluminum and steel basket provide maximum protection

Reviews

BUY IT!
I got my first RE20 back in 1980 and shortly after I bought a second one. Not only did they look really cool they sound amazing. Most microphones with flat response are omni but this cardioid design manages to be very smooth with almost no detectable proximity effect.

I bought the shock mounts for those first two RE20 and customers who saw the mics on my roll-around Atlas studio booms instantly knew I was cool and had advanced technology LMAO....just the look of the shock mount and mic was enticing. The thing is, these shock mounts really do an amazing job of killing vibrational noise.

When I bought my latest RE20 I did not buy the shock mount because I'm no longer in the commercial studio business, I just bought the mic for desktop podcasting applications. I regretted the omission after a year and bought the shock mount for my current RE20.....ahhhhh peace has returned....

It's big, you must assemble it (in 1980 they came assembled), it's easy to put it together and I love how securely it holds the microphone. This is the shock mount you want if you're using the RE20; just buy it now....you will eventually lol.

The only proper mount for the RE20 - but requires upgrade and maintenance.
Works great for the RE20. However, upgrading the Mounting Stud and Thumb Screw with a better aftermarket product does greatly improve stability on a boom. Also, over time (ca. 5 - 7 years), the rubber suspension degrades, softens, form cracks, and eventually breaks. Replacement OEM rubber suspension bands are available from vendors. So, no worries. You can make it like brand new anytime.
The only shockmount you can use use for the RE20
This is a very well built shockmount. It's easy to use, easy to assemble, and has a very good design that keeps it out of the way.
It absolutely reduces and bumps and such from the recording and is honestly a must.

But also note that you literally cannot use any other shockmount for the RE20, RE27N/D, and RE320 mics. Online you can see claims that you can use the InVision USM for the RE20 but it's too heavy and bottoms it out. The 309A on the other hand is specifically designed for this series of mic and works flawlessly.
Perfectly designed
I had been holding off on get this shockmount for a while now and just trying to get by with my RE20, but the rumble was just too much for me to handle. This shockmount is perfectly designed for the RE20, it's sturdy, sleek, and easy to use and install. Best part is it got rid of that annoying low-end rumble. Shout out to my sales engineer Greg O'Keefe as well for his help. Great service and great quality product. Thanks!

Brian Campbell is my hero.
Before I called Brian about upgrading my shockmount to the EV 309A I had the stock one that came with my articulating boom. I thought to myself, "can I really go on living like a poor person?" Brian was there to help me order what I needed to achieve the next level! Thank you, Brian!
