A Masterful, Handmade Work of Art
Handbuilt at the Yairi workshop in Kani, Japan, the Alvarez Yairi FYM70CE acoustic-electric guitar emits incredible tone that’ll flourish for years to come. To start, its solid AAA-grade Sitka spruce top and solid East Indian rosewood back and sides form a tonal fusion ripe for intricate chords and fingerpicking styles. Its folk/OM body shape delivers powerful projection, while its size makes it comfortable for long gigs and recording sessions. The FST6 Forward Shifted bracing system, a Yairi luthier secret, puts years of research and development to work for balance and optimal note separation. This model is also outfitted with a Hi-Fi acoustic bridge plate pickup system from LR Baggs — a non-invasive pickup design that features a built-in studio-quality preamp and provides exceptional definition, dynamics, and feedback resistance. Lastly, the Yairi FYM70CE houses a Direct Coupled Bridge, which, through increased down pressure and raised string tensions, provides you with amplified volume and sweet, long-lasting sustain. Yet another remarkable Alvarez guitar available at Sweetwater, the Yairi FYM70CE offers incredible acoustic sound, master craftsmanship, and exceptional playability — what’s not to love?

Outstanding tonewoods seasoned and cured for years
This masterful musical machine proffers up a selection of tonewoods beloved by guitarists of all stripes. From the first strum, the FYM70CE will treat you to the bright articulation of its AAA-grade Sitka spruce top and the warm tonality of its solid East Indian rosewood back and sides. What makes the tonewoods in this Alvarez stand out? Before they even make it into their final shape, they undergo a seasoning process that can take years to decades until they finally offer an Alvarez guitar with outstanding tonal properties and playability.

Serious attention to detail
While the stellar tonewoods are show-stoppers themselves, the Alvarez FYM70CE boasts a range of other appointments and construction attributes that combine to make its tonewoods truly shine. For instance, a Direct Coupled Bridge developed by Mr. Yairi in the 1980s serves to add response and projection by transferring more vibrations from the bridge into the top of the guitar. Also, the FYM70CE's mahogany neck, which contains a dovetail joint, found its shape through spoke shaving done by hand to ensure maximum comfort while fretting in any position. Lastly, stunning inlays, a real bone nut and saddle, and Gotoh tuners are exceptional appointments that’ll make this instrument your next family heirloom.
Noninvasive Hi-Fi acoustic bridge plate pickup system
The Alvarez Yairi FYM70CE is outfitted with a noninvasive Hi-Fi acoustic bridge pickup system from LR Baggs. These lightweight pickups preserve the integrity of the instrument while providing exceptional sonic balance, definition, and dynamic — all without negatively altering the natural acoustic tone. Awarded Guitar Player magazine’s 2023 Editor’s Pick, this pickup set beautifully complements the warm, organic tone at the heart of the FYM70CE.

The Alvarez-Yairi system
Comprised of 24 luthiers, four of them holding master luthier status, the Yairi luthier workshop in Kani, Japan handcrafts guitars with artisanal dedication to their craft. These bench-made guitars find their distinguished voices through the hands of skilled luthiers — some of them boasting as much as 55 years of experience in the industry. That means when you hold an Alvarez-Yairi guitar in your hands, you’re holding a piece of art that received immense skill and precise concentration from start to finish. Yairi earmarks such as the FST6 bracing system, thin finishes, and Direct Coupled Bridge set these guitars apart from others in the industry — after all, it’s no surprise with 85 years of experience building concert classical guitars.
