DW Performance Series
The DW Performance Series begins with HVX hard rock North American maple shells that are hand-built in the same California plant, by the same skilled craftsmen, as DW’s Collector’s Series. These shells are renowned for their full, punchy tone that cuts through and sits beautifully in any mix from hard rock to jazz to metal.
To achieve this one-of-a-kind tone, the HVX grain orientation in the DW Performance Series arranges wood plies horizontally, vertically, and diagonally. This special grain arrangement results in a solid fundamental tone. In addition, these shells are baked in pressure molds and then subjected to a nice even cooling process that crystallizes the glue. The result is a shell with maximum strength, roundness, and resonance.
Toms in the DW Performance Series are crowned with pinpoint 45° back-cut bearing edges that enhance attack and maximize head response. And the kick drum in this series features 60° edges that translate to increased depth and smoother playability.
The DW Performance Series also features hardware that has been painstakingly designed for better results. This includes reduced-size Quarter Turret lugs that are sleeker and more modern in appearance; Graduated Counter Hoops that have been weighted per each shell size to unlock a dynamic balance of attack and sustain; Washer-less STM Suspension Tom Mounts that float toms securely without choking tone; and Fine-threaded True-Pitch tension rods that maximize tuning accuracy.
