Epiphone Slash "AFD" Les Paul Special-II Outfit - Appetite Amber Reviews
Designed by Slash himself, the AFD Les Paul Special-II has more appointments than most of Sweetwater's other entry-level electric guitars. Topped with AAA flame maple, this guitar also features a dark cherry okoume body and neck, ivory binding, and a silk print of Slash's Snakepit logo on the headstock. The first time you plug into a high-gain amp, the AFD Les Paul Special-II's Ceramic Plus Zebra-coil humbuckers will treat you to the thick, overdriven, screaming metallic tone that Slash made famous. Complete with a premium gig bag, signature guitar picks, and eMedia online lessons, the Epiphone Slash AFD Les Paul Special-II Outfit is a great bundle for beginners or anybody who is searching for a quality, affordable electric guitar.

Great for the price
It sounds really well and plays very good. Took a little to get used to the fretboard as it felt a little rough at first but it's grown on me and has been what I've mainly played since I've got it.
One of my best Epiphone les pauls! Slash!
Great guitar out of the box but even better now.
Replaced the nut, changed pick ups to seymour duncans, now its great! I absolutely love Epiphones.

Two peculiar things about this guitar...
Check out my video
Welcome to the Jungle!
The Slash AFD is my first electric. I've noodled around on acoustics on and off for years, but finally decided to get more serious about playing. I'm glad I made the choice. This guitar is light, solid sound, great action and a joy to play. I queried friends with much more expertise than myself before I pulled the trigger and every single one who'd touched one said it was an unbelievable bang for the buck. They didn't lie! I truly love this gorgeous little noisemaker! On a side note, Sweetwater is an amazing company to deal with!
Sweet Child O Mine
This thing rocks! I love plugging this in to my fender mustang and jamming out! Ignore the marketing for beginners, this is a great guitar for anybody on a budget. Shred out!
Epiphone Les Paul/ Slash guitar
The product arrived on time and well packaged. the guitar sounded great right out of the box. It is a nice looking guitar and I am really enjoying getting to know how it performs.
Great rocker!
This guitar cant be beat for the price. What a beautiful amber tops. Action is low and plays amazing! his is a rocker! This thing screams but is good enough to dial in clean sounds. It is light and the neck is nice ans small. Buy one, you won't regret it!
My Favorite Guitar I Currently Own!
This is by far my favorite guitar currently in my possession. This is because it is an amazing sounding guitar for a low price. I say "currently in my possession" because I am trying to build my own guitar at the moment. The guitar is perfect in every way and is the best guitar for a starting guitarist. I had this guitar a little bit after my first guitar.
Start them young!
I own an 2010 Lp trad so my Son got a real shock opening this Christmas morning.
Tuned up easy, great fit an finish.
Not bad in the tone department.
Can't beat the price!
My Son wants that silly hat now!
From Acoustic to Electric guitar.
This guitar is so easy to play, lightweight and so good looking!! IM so happy with the decision of buying this guitar. I still learning, and I know that is going to be an easy road from now on.. Don't wait, Get one!!
Ill take 75
Screw buying a gibson historic ill take 75 of these instead. thanks rob chapman!
Please Don't Wait.
Guys, I'm not kidding....buy this thing. I'm not gonna sit here and type out all my accolades as a musician. None of that matters or means anything to you...what does matter is this guitar.
Please don't let the brand, price or so called "marketing" for beginners sway you. This guitar is
1) Beautiful, bright and vibrant. Absolutely show-stopping color.
2) Light as a feather. Les Pauls are heavy by nature. More wood will do that even when they are cavernously designed. This is a flat body and is great to play for a show.
3) The Tune-O-Matic bridge is great and coupled with proper string height on the great stock nut, you can get great action on this with very little, if any, fret buzz.
4) The neck is small and the frets are dressed nicely. Smooth as can be to slide around.
5) Finally...The Pick-ups. Zebra Humbucking Pick-Ups. A nice, high output awesome Rock sound and when you adjust your tone and volume knobs, you can really shape the sound to playing great jazz rhythm and lead lines.
I did some cosmetic changes to mine. Purchased vintage Les Paul tuners, trapezoid fret inlay stickers and strap-locks. But like I said, its PURELY COSMETIC and looks cool. Makes it look much more expensive than it actually is, however, they are not needed.
Not to mention the built in Shadow Tuner. Are you kidding me?! What a value, super bright and chromatic at that for all sorts of fun and funky tunings.
All that being said, this is my daily driver. I have an MIM Strat and I've owned various Ibanez and Epiphones before. Those are all gone because this thing is so RAD.
as always
As always , my guitar buying experience at Sweetwater was fun and rewarding.Clint ,
was helpful (always is) the other folk , who gave me a hand; knowledgeable considerate and availing...Me? A huge fan of EPIPHONE SPECIAL II SERIES! and no exception the AFD a fine catch If you like the series -a must. Great Sound.Well Made. Perfect Set Up.A great SPECIAL .DON T MISS OUT!
Great Guitar
This is a fantastic guitar for the price point. If your on the fence, don't think twice about buying it. Great action right out of the box. Strings that ship on it are usable but you probably should change those out ASAP. Did I mention it is a beautiful guitar... This is my second guitar purchase from Sweetwater and I couldn't be more pleased.
Great Les Paul for the money
Plays well. Frets easy. Has great sound. Really like the tuning pickup. For the money its a really great deal. Slash did a good job on the upgrades. Plus the finish looks great too. Most inexpensive Las Paul you'll see and still plays well. And I,ve been playing since the '70's.
Very nice epiphone.
Love the ability to use the tuner on it to tune my guitar. I might be replacing the tuning pegs, but not really thinking it is not necessary. The sound is great with the clean tones on it. It sounds as good as my Epiphone Les Paul double cut l961 guitar. I wish I had seen this one before I bought the other Epiphone, because the price is so low and it's hard to think it is a cheap guitar. Though I still like the other double cut I have. I used to practice and play alot years ago, and am now been picking it back up again. With the nice and easy neck and low action, this makes it easy for me. The barred chords sound good on it. I highly recommend this for beginners and even any level of player that wants to save money and still get that Les Paul sound.
This is one mean machine!
This was almost five stars. The guitar came in set up well. No fret sprout, the intonation was dead on, the action was nice and low. The electronics worked flawlessly including the built-in tuner. The pickups sound great clean or with distortion. The flame top is absolutely gorgeous. The only downfall was the tuning pegs. It did not like holding tune, so I bought some locking tuners and put them on. Now the guitar holds tune sounds great and looks good it's ready for the stage.
No really, it's good.
I'm amazed and envious at how good some of these entry level guitars are compared to what was available when I started out. I've played "mid-tier" LP-style guitars (from other brands, not Epiphone) that weren't as good as this one is. Of course it's not perfect, but it seems to be on so many "top guitars for beginners" lists for the right reasons.
Lastly, the stock photos don't do this guitar's finish justice. Obviously it will vary from guitar to guitar but the flame on mine is way more vibrant and detailed in person compared to the stock photos.
Great Guitar!
I've had this guitar for a little over 8 months now and I love it as much if not more than I did when I first got it. This guitar looks more amazing in real life than in the pictures! Just looking at it makes me want to pick it up and play it. The built in guitar tuner can be a little off some times, but mostly accurate (I use a Snark tuner to check). The guitar is pretty light so it sits comfortably on my thigh. I did have a couple of issues when I first got it. The bag that comes with it had a broken zipper. I couldn't get a hold of anyone at Epiphone, but Sweetwater took care of it for me (amazing customer service!). Another issue I had was that I had to replace the strings on the guitar because they were bent and damaged out of the box. Overall it's a great guitar!
Great guitar
I got this for Christmas I'm a epiphone fan after my uncle told me that they use the same pickups in there guitars just change the name that they put in a Gibson LES PAUL and use the same pods the only thing I do when I get a epiphone is change the strings to Ernie ball 10/46 colbalt I have 20 epiphones all LES Paul's they all sound wonderful some with Seymour Duncan's but this is a very good guitar for the money.
Well worth the money
Perfect for someone trying to get back into playing in one complete package. I chose to not get the package with the amp and chose a larger Line 6 instead just to avoid having to upgrade too quickly. It plays well and stays in tune well also. The strings aren't great and should be changed but overall, it is a great setup.
Great for money
This thing looks amazing and sounds great for the money! Only problem with mine is the fret board finish looks like it was rubbed so it isn't the same color all the way down. Other than that everything is pretty good aside from when distortion is high everything sounds a bit mixed up but otherwise great guitar for the money!
Great entry level Les Paul from Epiphone!
This is better than other entry level Les Paul copies in my opinion. Great sounding special pickups, nice build quality on guitar, body and finish look great, nice Epiphone quality feel. Built in micro tuner is awesome! Strap, cable and decent gig bag are all bonuses! For me, this is a great poor mans, or new player Les Paul... Slash vibe just makes it better! The box is even cool!
Pretty good beginner guitar!
Bought it as my beginner guitar and when it came it was perfectly shipped. The pickups are great for playing metal and hard rock.one thing I'll say is that the amp cord is terrible quality, so buy a new one.
Epiphone Slash AFD
Nice guitar. Body is thin but has weight to it. Fretboard is a little dry. Easy to handle but action is a little high. Changing strings upon purchase is recommended. Built in tuner on bridge pickup is a plus. Maybe mod with locking tuners but holds its tune pretty well for straight out of the box.Over all I like it.
Will More Than Likely Need Some TLC
I bought this guitar for myself. i am no pro player by any stretch, however even I knew something was off. Out of the box, the cover on the button knob had come off, no big deal,I called Mason and told him and he sent me new knobs no questions asked. tried to lower the action some because the way it was set at the factory, you could have driven a car under the strings. i took it down little by little and could not avoid fret buzz. Neck relief was non existent out of the box, so i put a little adjustment on the truss rod and got my desired amount, still fret buzz. After playing around for a couple days, I took it to my local place. Come to find out the frets were all over the place. paid $140 for fret level and dress. action is now where i want it. After the work, I love it.The finish is beautiful and the built in tuner is accurate. Would I recommend this guitar?Absolutely, Just expect to do some work if you want to make it yours.
