Acoustic-electric Guitar with Spruce Top, Rosewood Back and Sides, Mahogany Neck, and Ebony Fingerboard - Autumn Burst

Epiphone’s Hummingbird Deluxe EC, crafted in collaboration with Gibson Custom, reimagines Gibson’s iconic square-shoulder acoustic guitar through the lens of a modern approach, accentuated by elevated tonewoods, a cutaway design, and contemporary performance-driven features. Showcasing a solid spruce top reinforced with traditional scalloped X-bracing, solid rosewood back and sides, a 1-piece genuine mahogany neck, and a highly accessible 20-fret ebony fingerboard, the Hummingbird Deluxe EC delivers a full-bodied, luxurious sound with prominent bass tones, natural high-end sparkle, and a mature resonance courtesy of the thermal-aging process. The Hummingbird Deluxe EC comes equipped with an LR Baggs VTC Bronze electronics system that helps faithfully amplify the guitar’s organic character for honest and authentic performances, whether in the studio or on the stage. In reverence to the original model, the Hummingbird Deluxe EC is adorned with the iconic etched Hummingbird pickguard design, mother-of-pearl inlays decorating the fingerboard and Gibson “open book” headstock, and a 1.73-inch bone nut at the top of the neck further complemented by a compensated bone saddle and bone pins.

Worth It

By Matt from MN
Music Background: Strummer

Wasn't sure if it would be worth it for the price, but thankfully I was wrong. This thing plays like butter and sounds great across all frequencies. Tuners are silky smooth. Slightly heavier than my other acoustics. It's my first rosewood acoustic and you can hear the difference compared to mahogany or koa. Excellent low end, louder in general. Just what I wanted and didn't have to buy a Martin/Taylor/Gibson and spend a few grand. Highly recommended.

I love this guitar!

By michael S. from CORNING, CA

A beautiful guitar. The tone is wonderful and the intonation is so good. Thank you Sweetwater luthiers and Richie Clemens for touching up some minor things for me. I will continue to buy my guitars and equipment from Sweetwater.

This Bird Sings Well

By Chris D. from Jacksonville NC
Music Background: Singer/Songwriter/Guitarist now for 2 years as a hobby

I'm very happy owning this guitar. I have the natural finished one. It came with a pretty good set-up straight out of the box so I don't have to rush in getting some tweaking done to it & get my favorite strings the Elixirs on it. The Grover tuners are nice & smooth on it. The sound is nice & full & has nice low end too when needed. It has no weak spots on the tones & has no prob getting loud but sounds good playing soft strumming too. The L&R Baggs Electronics on it sounds pretty good but I play mostly off the amp but sounds good plugged in too. I like the finish on mine. It has a smooth Satin top feel with a very light coat gloss touch. I only gave it 4.5 stars because I thought it would had came with a hard case but it came more like an Aero Case that some of the Taylor Guitars come with. But, it's nice & thick & pretty but I still would had preferred a hard case. But, it's a keeper for me.

Very impressed!

By Blake S. from Chesterton, IN
Music Background: Strummer, picker, and Old Time guitar player

I recently purchased this guitar and haven't been able to put it down. I was a little thrown off by the rough spots on the finish. I really take care of my guitars and having rough spots is strange to me. That said, it plays amazing. I went back and forth between the Gibson and this model for about an hours before admitting that I liked the look, feel, and sound of the Epiphone better. My wife was also happy because it save me about $. The whole rode home I was secretly hoping I made the right choice and almost turned around. I'm glad I didn't. I couldn't be happier. You would be hard pressed to find another guitar with the same playability, appointments, and sound for $.

Epiphone Humingbird Deluxe EC

By Ronnie M. from Owens Cross Roads, Alabama
Music Background: 50+ years playing, recording, engineering and producing

This guitar out of the box required very little setup. I had to do very minor fret leveling and saddle bridge filing to achieve the playability I need. The guitar now has phenomenal playability and sounds a good as any Gibson HB I've played. The only negative I can report concern the condition of the guitar when it arrived. (1)The tone and volume wheels were detached from their plastic chassis that is located and attached under the edge of the guitars sound hole. (2)The cloth Battery holder was detached (the glue bond had failed) from the inside of the guitar and the 9v battery was loose inside the guitar. I was able to reinsert the volume and tone wheels into its chassis and got a stable connection. I had to glue the cloth battery holder back onto the inside wall of the guitar. I was told by Sweetwater that that these anomalies could have occurred during shipping and I agree because the Sweetwater 55 point quality check done before shipping would not have missed such obvious problems. Sweetwater offered to exchange the guitar but I had a gig and could not wait for the turn around time. Once I had confirmed the anomalies were repairable and that there were no structural or functional defect, I made the repairs as I did the setup. Luckily I have the skills to make such repairs and therefore did not need to pay a luthier. Mike Johnson is my Sales Engineer at Sweetwater and he is an extraordinary individual and very good at his job. If you are new to Sweetwater, ask for Mike Johnson before you make a purchase.

Finish not as described

By Clint H. from Lemoore, CA

The only reason I am giving this guitar 4, instead of 5 stars is because, I have a little OCD, when it comes to finishes, and the like. So, maybe it's just me. But, it is described as having a gloss finish. It has a satin finish. The top, and sides are smooth, but the entire back, is very rough to the touch. I'm not happy about that! It is evenly stained, and looks good.

Aside from that, this guitar plays beautifully, and sounds fantastic! I did have it plecked, and not sure if it made all the difference, but the setup is perfect.

As big thanks to Chris, for making things right!

A Dream Guitar

By Gray H. from Fort Collins, CO
Music Background: Blues and Americana

This Epiphone inspired by Gibson custom shop Hummingbird is, really, my dream guitar. This one checks all the boxes that I was looking for: all solid woods, torrefied spruce top, rosewood back and sides, beautiful burst finish, 24.75 inch scale, ebony fingerboard, LR baggs electronics, and more. I have played some authentic Gibson hummingbirds, and loved the sound and the body style. This one, of course, is a lot less expensive. However, the build quality is amazing, the sound is incredible, the playability is just what I was looking for, and, unlike the modern Gibson hummingbirds, it has an ebony fretboard. I just like the look of the ebony and the feel of it. Nothing wrong with rosewood but I prefer ebony fretboards. Also wanted to say that the case that comes with this, which is a style of gig bag, not a hard case, is really nice! It is reinforced in the right places, not too heavy, looks good, and it's easy to tote around to various places that I go play. I also decided to go for the pleck service, and it's hard to know what the difference would have been, but one thing is that at Sweetwater, I think when you pay for the Plek service, they might pay a lot more attention to the setup of the guitar. I don't know this for a fact, but this guitar came set up really well and plays beautifully. All in all, I highly recommend these Epiphone inspired by Gibson custom shop guitars. I really do think that this has ended my search for the perfect guitar for me.
