Use Your Voice to Control Your Guitar Tone

BOSS's VO-1 Vocoder pedal lets guitarists achieve vocal and synthesizer effects with their electric guitars. Four modes - Vintage, Advanced, Talk Box, and Choir - take your guitar tone from warm analog synth sounds to sounding like an army of harmonized guitars. Plug a microphone in and you can control the parameters with your own voice. The Talk Back mode is a favorite at Sweetwater for how good it sounds without all the extra gear associated with some talkbox designs. And the onboard effects loop lets you get even more tonal options from your VO-1 Vocoder.

BOSS VO-1 Vocoder Pedal Features:
  • Vocal-style effects for your guitar
  • Microphone input lets you control your sound with your voice
  • Talk Box mode is easy to use
  • Choir mode makes your guitar sound massive
  • Vintage mode is like old analog synths
  • Advanced mode offers new synth tones with enhanced clarity
The BOSS VO-1 Vocoder pedal gives your guitar sounds you've never thought of before.

Reviews

Smoking Hot Voice Coder!!!
This guitar pedal feels to me like my very own baby! I amd so grateful for you, Sweetwater, sending me this magnificent creation. I will cherish this vocoder for the rest of my life!
Music background: Love, Life, Liberty!!!
Good...................but
I've haven't seen it mentioned in any of Roland's ads or reviews of this unit on YouTube or other media that there is no way to bypass the effects and use a microphone dry. You will have to devise your own bypass perhaps with a mic splitter or use a separate microphone for your vocals without the pedal's effects. Poor design flaw. Beyond that, it works great.

sounds great, but....
Finally, a vocoder with a small footprint that I can put right in my pedalboard, right?? WRONG. Boss left out one very important feature: an XLR thru. This means if you sing onstage (like me), you can't use your vocal mic for this unit, you have to have another dedicated mic for the unit! Other vocoders (like the EH V256) have a mic "thru", so your vocal mic is patched in and in the PA when the unit is off, then when you engage it, your vocals are bypassed in the PA and power the vocoder engine...very useful onstage. I.E., ONE MIC for your voc, and the vocoder. With the VO-1, even with an XLR splitter, your vocals are still in the PA when the unit is on. And an effects loop? In lieu of an XLR thru??? Pointless..... Bad design, Boss.

But hey, it sounds killer! (as long as you're not onstage)
Bring back the digitech talker
Vocal too soft even with blend knob,I think this is this only boss pedal I don't like, the dibitech talker was great
