No Illusion: Tube Tones Straight from the ’60s

Big cleans, deep vibrato, springy reverb — sound familiar? Universal Audio’s Dream ’65 Reverb Amp pedal is an authentic start-to-finish emulation of perhaps the most recorded 1 x 12-inch combo amp of all time. This pedal gives you everything an original model would and more, boasting three speaker options and three amp versions — stock and two common modifications — that perfectly capture the sparkling cleans and rich overdrive of this pedal’s inspiration. Guitarists at Sweetwater are amazed at how closely the Dream ’65 re-creates the sound of a tube amp recorded in a live room, and this lifelike quality comes courtesy of UA’s incredible mic, cab, and Dynamic Room Modeling technology. What's more, each pedal in the UAFX series allows you to bypass your amplifier's preamp when the pedal is engaged via the special "4-cable" mode, supercharging your amp with two additional channels. Are you looking for even greater control? The Dream ’65 sports Bluetooth and MIDI compatibility to connect to Universal Audio’s UAFX app for enhanced editing, expanded control, access to artist presets, and more!

A trio of distinct amp styles

The Dream ’65 comes loaded with three different amp versions for a wealth of sonic possibilities. Naturally, this pedal emulates the stock version of its inspiration, but two modded versions are included with unique boost controls for added flexibility.

  • Stock: Looking for lush cleans? This is the setting for you! In this mode, the Boost knob adds up to 10dB of clean gain.
  • Lead: In this mode, the bright cap is removed when the boost is above OFF, giving lower boost settings a rich, rounded-off tone. Once you make it past around 10 o’clock, the Dream ’65 kicks up the midrange for a greater punch when playing with drive.
  • D-Tex: The pride and joy of Texas blues tone! This setting significantly increases gain and midrange for a smooth overdriven tone. Cranking the Boost knob reduces the impact of the tone stack, leading to a more open tone.

Switch up your speakers

Part of the Dream ’65’s magic is found in the speaker/cab emulations, bolstered by Universal Audio’s Dynamic Room Modeling technology. The Dream ’65 comes loaded with three cab/mic/speaker settings, seamlessly matched to the three amplifier modes. Guitarists looking to cover a wide sonic range will love experimenting with the different speaker and amp pairings; plus, when registering the Dream ’65 with Universal Audio, you get three more free cab sims to play with!

4-cable mode offers powerful channel switching

Each pedal in Universal Audio’s UAFX series features a special “4-cable” mode accessible via the UAFX Control app, allowing you to bypass your amp’s preamp when the pedal is engaged for incredibly realistic tube-style tones. By hooking your pedal up to both your effects loop send/return and the front of amp input, you can instantly switch between your amp’s stock tone and your UAFX pedal routed straight into the power amp, effectively adding two extra channels to your amplifier. What’s more, Universal Audio designed this feature with multiple pedal setups in mind — you can connect any number of UAFX pedals in this configuration for multichannel madness!

Get the most out of your UAFX gear

UAFX 2.0 is here, designed to give you the greatest control over your tone and your live setup. With this latest update, the Dream ’65 boasts improved Bluetooth and USB-C controls for enhanced connection with Universal Audio's powerful UAFX app, new footswitch modes for intelligent preset switching, and USB MIDI control, opening a world of vast performance capabilities. Whether you engage the UAFX app to unlock deeper tone shaping and access artist-curated presets and effects, explore Live, Tour, and A/B-C/D footswitch performance modes, or connect with your programmable MIDI rig for access to 128 recallable presets and enhanced real-time expression, UAFX 2.0 is primed to elevate every dimension of your playing experience.

Reviews

The real deal..
After much research and getting the Ruby, I decided to get the Dream, since my base tone is a California clean Fender/Mesa tone. I connected and OM!!! it really feels, not only it sounds but the feel, I think that is the most important factor. We as musicians create and project emotions, so the sound and texture creates a feeling so for me not only has to sounds or be super tech, but it has to feel like it, and It really does!! The Ruby left and The Dream on the right channel, my sound went to the next level. UA has revolutionized the audio world, but also they have changed the guitar/amp simulation world, simply an amazing product...

Sounds Amazing!

This is the sound I was looking for. It's like playing through a Fender tube amp and my other pedals come alive too. I have been using the Walrus ACS1 and Strymon Iridium and the Dream65 sounds way better. It takes pedals better too.

A couple of things to know:

1) It comes with 3 speaker cabs. When you reqister on-line you get another 3. You must register on a PC (laptop) not on your phone because... you have to plug the Dream65 in via a USB-C cable (like the new iPhone cables). You will download the latest firmware and get the 3 extra speaker cabs.Kind of a pain but not too bad.

2) Dream65 does NOT have a headphone jack so you need to get creative. Buy a mini cable like this... Hosa YMP-434 Stereo Breakout Cable - 3.5mm TRS Female to Left and Right 1/4-inch TS Male.

Note: the output for the headphone will be weak because there's no headphone amp. Just turn the master output all the way up when using headphones and back to 50% (12:00) when going direct to house or playing live.

Music background: Contemporary Christian and some rock.
Remarkable Emulation
This is an extremely well built, well engineered piece of gear. Kudos especially for the reverb and tremolo sounds.
Music background: Been at it a while
This amp pedal will likely replace some of my amps.
I haven't yet delved into all the features of this pedal. Registered it and got 3 more speakers, and adjusted a few knobs...wow. Connected it with my normal pedal board, just like I would a regular amp, plugged the output into a DI box and sent to the board...Overwhelmed with how this sounds. I have tried a bunch of amp modelers and ended up spending the vast majority of my time trying to find a sound I liked...This one was just some minor tweaks of the knobs and selecting a speaker that I really dug. It doesn't get much easier than that.
Solidly built, and highly recommended. I may just sell all of my amps and get a Woodrow, a Ruby and maybe a Lion to cover nearly every sound I could ever want.

Dream 65

Tired of lugging your amp to the gig but this! I will say I do have the iridium which is excellent but this has that sweet reverb and tremolo. Easy to use
