Stylish 12-string Hardtail with HS Pickups

The Danelectro 59X12 — 12-string version of the groundbreaking 59XT — serves up a decadent 12-string tonal buffet and a hearty spoonful of that classic Dano Shorthorn style. The 59X12’s vintage single-coil in the neck and coil-split Lipstick humbucker in the bridge are your ticket to a world of folksy cleans and jangly pop nostalgia, with a broad palette of blitzed-out rock and psychedelic textures just waiting to be discovered. The 59X12’s resonant hardwood body and snappy maple neck operate in perfect harmony, with a pau ferro fingerboard adding to the guitar’s overall richness and sustain. An adjustable hardtail bridge gives this affordable 12-string rock-solid intonation and sustain. Rounding out this stylish instrument is a set of die-cast chrome knobs and complementary chrome hardware.

Dano Shorthorn style

The iconic Shorthorn design makes a triumphant return in the Danelectro 59X12 12-string electric guitar. Tapping the hardwood/plywood body reveals a rich resonance, unplugged or onstage, which is why you could see earlier iterations of this guitar in the hands of notable axemen Syd Barrett and Jimmy Page.

Versatile HS pickups

The 59X12 isn't your grandfather's Dano. This retro reimagining of the classic 59 is a thoroughbred rock stallion, with a vintage single-coil in the neck position and a full-range Lipstick humbucker at the bridge. The angled pickup design is effective at balancing notes across all 12 strings, giving bridge-position high octaves a bit more warmth and neck-position low octaves a touch more clarity. What surprised us at Sweetwater is how well the humbucker cleans up, especially in the split configuration. Engaging the push-pull coil split unearths more of the iconic jangle and bite that 12-string Danelectros are best known for.

Adjustable hardtail bridge

Intonation is a critical part of the 12-string recipe. That’s why your 59X12 comes loaded with an adjustable hardtail bridge for rock-solid stability between octaves. Paired with its other assets, there’s no question: the Danelectro 59X12 12-string from Sweetwater is a lot of guitar for not a lot of dough.

Danelectro 59X12 Features:

  • A stylish 12-string electric guitar with split HS pickups
  • Celebrated Dano design: Shorthorn body, Coke bottle headstock, and Lipstick pickup covers
  • Taps into folksy cleans and classic pop jangle, and opens up into blitzed-out rock and psychedelic tones
  • Vintage single-coil neck pickup and Lipstick humbucking bridge pickup with push-pull coil split
  • Adjustable hardtail bridge for rock-solid intonation

Reviews

This thing rules
I looked at these guitars online for months. Watch tons of demos. Really wanted one, but wasn't sure I wanted to drop $ on a limited-use instrument. Decided to just go for it one day, and I could not be happier. The guitar arrived in tune and set up very nicely, and 3 months later it still stays in tune as well as most of my 6-strings. If you're looking at these Dano 12ers wondering "how often would I really play a 12-string? Is it worth it?" -- trust me, it is. I haven't been able to put mine down.

extremely pleased
Got this 12 string 2 weeks ago knowing that Danelectro has greatly improved it's product line over the years. Plus, the reviews were very positive. I couldn't be happier with the price, the electronics, the sound, the weight/balance, & the overall quality of the instrument. I did change out the strings (10/46 gauge) that came with it to a lighter gauge set of Stringjoy Signatures 9/42. The action is now perfect for my performing needs. I would put this guitar up against any of the more expensive brands out there anytime. My quest for the perfect electric 12 string has finally been fulfilled! My buddy, Nick Church got it shipped to me in short order too. Thanks Bro!

twelve strings of love
Wow I really love this guitar! What a beautiful tone and sound you can get out of this one! The twelve strings are wonderfully spaced and comfortable to play and sound good all over the fretboard. I would recommend this one for anyone who's wanting to go a twelve strings electric guitar for a decent price.

It's a great guitar, can get good rock tones with some gain.
This guitar is awesome! Out of the box it played excellently. the only issue was in the delivery but in a way it was my fault- due to the size of the package the CVS drug store refused it. I should have sent it straight to a Fed Ex holding point. This was on a Friday and I had totally expected it in my hands that day. But I would like to thank my sales engineer Alex Berglund, he intervened and made it so I could pick the guitar at a Fed ex facility instead of them shipping it back to Sweetwater and I had it Sunday same weekend. Anyway the guitar sounds great and that humbucker can give you a tone for maybe Zep's "TSRTS" live or similarly Tesla's "Love Song". That tone is through a slightly distorted Marshall. Of course there's a myriad of other tones partly due to that tone knob push-pull configuration. Say you're into the Beatles you can get the "Ticket to Ride" tone and "Hard Day's Night". But you're not shelling out thousands for a Ricky. About my only complaint is that it's hard to find a strap to attach near the neck because of how the guitar is constructed at the attachment point it's kind of tight. I'll find something -- ENJOY it's awesome!

5 Stars. I love this guitar! Sounds great! Definitely worth the price. An excellent guitar, all around!
And Tyler Moore is an awesome Sales Tech. He has helped me with the purchase of 3 guitars, drum accessories, and helped our church find a great drum set for our budget. He is the best!!!
