About Squier Jazzmaster Electric Guitars

The legacy of the Fender Jazzmaster is one of the most well-documented instances of a failed product launch — only to become a cult legend and beloved decades after its release. The Jazzmaster was introduced in the 1950s as a competitor to other jazz guitars of that era but failed to pique the interest of many of the big-name jazz guitarists, resulting in Fender discontinuing the guitar.

Decades later, as many young guitarists were searching for affordable guitars to play with, the Jazzmaster became a favorite for its offset design and unique tone that set it apart from the more popular Les Pauls, Stratocasters, and Telecasters. What came of that was a revival of the Jazzmaster, with many of music’s most popular guitarists, such as Kurt Cobain, Kevin Shields, and J Mascis, being known for using them.

As the demand for the Jazzmaster skyrocketed, more affordable models for the next generation of guitarists looking to follow in their idols’ footsteps came, too. Thus, Fender created the Squier Jazzmaster, which gave guitarists a more affordable model with less expensive components so they could play their favorite guitar without busting the bank. The Squier Jazzmaster has seen many iterations since its initial release, such as unique pickup configurations that steer away from the original single-coils and the removal of the sometimes confusing rhythm circuit and switches.
