Your Chance to Own SRV’s 6-string Pride and Joy

There’s a very, very short list of guitars in music history that can claim to match the fame and influence of Stevie Ray Vaughan’s bruised and battered “Number One” Stratocaster. The Fender Stevie Ray Vaughan Stratocaster pays tribute to that iconic axe, merging the guitar’s original vintage specs with several key modifications requested by Stevie himself. Stevie’s original Strat consisted of a 1962 body mated to a 1963 neck, and this guitar authentically replicates that classic Fullerton foundation with a lightweight alder body and a thick oval profile maple neck. You’ll enjoy effortless bends and lightspeed licks up and down the pau ferro fingerboard thanks to its flat 12-inch radius, while a set of golden American Vintage tuning machines keep your strings pitch-perfect. As for the tone, a trio of scorching Texas Special pickups calls up a crossfire of hard-hitting Stratocaster sonics laden with biting midrange, crystal-clear highs, and a firm low-end punch. Complete with Stevie’s signature “SRV” pickguard and a left-handed gold synchronized tremolo (a tip of the hat to Stevie’s hero, Jimi Hendrix), the Fender Stevie Ray Vaughan Stratocaster puts the soulful sound and style of a true 6-string legend in your hands.

Stevie’s custom-spec twist on his legendary “Number One” Strat

Stevie Ray Vaughan’s beautifully battered “Number One” Stratocaster is undoubtedly one of the most iconic instruments in 6-string history. It’s the guitar that helped usher the all-but-forgotten blues back into the mainstream after Stevie’s star role on David Bowie’s Let’s Dance and his classic albums with Double Trouble. At the height of his fame, Fender teamed with Stevie to design a signature Stratocaster that would take point from his “Number One” and integrate several modified specs per Stevie’s ever-evolving tastes. Released two years after Stevie’s tragic passing in 1990, the Stevie Ray Vaughan signature Stratocaster pays faithful tribute to Stevie’s enduring influence and has stood as an all-time Fender classic for more than three decades of production.

Unleash a flood of Texas-tinged tones

What pickups could be more fitting for Texas’ most iconic bluesman than Fender’s Texas Special single-coils? In fact, while they’re not technically signature pickups, Stevie was heavily involved in the creation and design of these single-coils from the very start — no wonder they’ve endured as a standard-issue Stratocaster set for more than three decades. Crafted with Alnico V magnets and overwound for a hotter, more hard-hitting sound, Texas Special single-coils simply excel at Stevie’s high-power blend of bluesy rock brilliance. Moreover, Sweetwater’s Strat slingers of all styles have come to sing the praises of Texas Special pickups for their potent blend of bluesy heat and sonic versatility.

A modded-out neck set to Stevie's specs

While Stevie’s original "Number One" vintage Strat would have started with a 7.25-inch radius when it first left the factory, years of custom refrets and a penchant for wide, emotive bends had left him with a preference for flatter fingerboards. Thus, Stevie spec’d his signature Stratocaster’s pau ferro fingerboard out with a 12-inch radius — a spec rarely seen on standard Stratocasters and a boon to any player who regularly tears out massive multi-step bends in the fingerboard’s higher register. This fingerboard stands supported by an early 1960s-style thick oval neck profile that comfortably fills out your palm, directly inspired by the neck on Stevie’s mongrel 1962/1963 vintage Stratocaster.

Fender Stevie Ray Vaughan Stratocaster Features:

  • Inspired by Stevie Ray Vaughan’s iconic "Number One" Strat
  • Designed in conjunction with Stevie Ray Vaughan in the late 1980s
  • Lightweight alder body, complete with Stevie’s iconic “SRV” pickguard
  • Maple neck in a full and thick-feeling early 1960s oval profile
  • Pau ferro fingerboard wearing a flat, bend-friendly 12-in. radius

  • 5-position pickup selector with RWRP middle pickup for quacky in-between tones
  • Gleaming golden hardware, including American Vintage tuning machines and Stevie’s signature left-handed tremolo bridge

Incredible! The Stratocaster I always wanted
I've owned a few Stratocasters over the years, my favorite guitarists play Strats, Blackmore, Trower, Roth, Stevie Ray…plus they just sound what I want a guitar to sound like. I've had mim Deluxe, a Standard, a Strat Plus Deluxe, partscasters galore…always felt I needed more than one with different configurations on the pickups. Well…that's over now, this is THE ONE, now my #1. Stevie was intimately involved in the design of this guitar, based off his #1 a 1963 Stratocaster that he modified. Texas Specials themselves were a collaboration between Stevie and Fender. It's true Stevie never got to play the final production model but Fender and Jimmie finished it out. This thing is a masterpiece and Sweetwaters 55 point point inspection and their personalized service just make it even better. I could just stare at this thing and Nigel Tufnel about it' you can hear the sustain…don't touch it, don't even look at it'…but no its a player. Best neck I have ever felt in my hand and the Pau Ferro is beyond gorgeous. It's a piece of art unto itself. The fretwork is impeccable and I do frets so believe me these are perfection.
I understand the little e could fall off the board if you have a tendency to pull down. This is true of any vintage spaced bridge which this is. I don't have that problem but it's something to keep in mind if you don't like vintage spacing because finding a gold bridge that is 52.5 mm or whatever, that is worthy of this guitar wont be easy. The Floyd Rose Rail Tail is the best bet IMHO.
The tuners are vintage split style, weird for me but they are incredible. Very tight, not for the weak handed but very precise and solid like I have never seen. I don't really have a preference on tuners but most of my guitars have locking tuners. I will keep these.
The Texas Specials are great sounding pickups. They have a great amount of tone in the 'roll off' and the bridge is FAT almost Tele like. Just a great great guitar. I might get rid of all my Stratocasters and get another one, its that freaking good!
Special thanks to my salesperson Chris Goldbach, Chris rules and takes care of his customers. \m/ \m/
Also Jeff C and Leo W. Who did the inspections and CSRA and JECO who may be the same folks or others I don't know but I appreciate all of you!

Perfect
This guitar is everything I hoped for , such great tone !
Wonderful guitar
Looks great and sounds great. My only complaints and the reasons for 4/5 rating are that the tuner buttons are plastic and the nut is synthetic and not bone, unlike my other nice Fenders which have the same style tuners but with metal buttons and bone nuts. The guitar comes nicely set up, stays in tune and plays very well right out of the box! The neck profile is extremely comfortable.

Sweetwater is the only place I trust to buy guitars online. They're excellent!

An Absolute Keeper
I originally purchased my SRV strat in the summer of 2010 and I don't think I could ever part with it. Love the 12" radius, the neck is nice and fat but very playable. My main guitar is an R8 and this compliments it incredibly well. If you're in the market for a strat, this is a great one to check out!
Music background: 16 Years Experience
Nice
The neck is different and I like that; also the pickups have a noticeable "snap" to them. Very nice guitar and a keeper.

Thank you Dave Hoffman for all your great customer service!
