Strap Locks & Blocks Are an Investment in Your Instrument

Ask any seasoned guitar or bass player at Sweetwater, and you'll hear the same story: a set of strap locks is one of the best inexpensive investments you can make in your instrument. They're especially important if you play live. And since they're capable of withstanding hundreds of pounds of pull, you don't have to worry about your axe ever hitting the stage.

How Do Strap Locks Work?

Having a strap detach can result in serious damage to your guitar or bass. Sweetwater carries a wide variety of guitar strap locks that will protect your instrument while allowing you to add a touch of class to your axe. Strap locks are easy to install. The base attaches just like any typical strap button, and the cap attaches securely to your favorite strap. A groove-and-ball design ensures that you're free to move, so other than not having to worry about your strap falling off, you won't notice a difference in the way your guitar feels.

Strap Locks Vs. Strap Blocks — What's the Difference?

Most strap locks today replace your existing strap buttons and require a special mechanism installed onto your strap. Popular options include the Schaller S-Locks, Dunlop Straploks, and Fender Locking Strap Buttons. In these systems, the interlocking pieces on the guitar and strap make it virtually impossible for the strap to come off accidentally, short of the screws themselves pulling out of the body. For this reason, it's not uncommon to see artists invest in a set of strap locks for every guitar in their stage arsenal, so that a single strap and wireless system can be used all set long.

Strap blocks, on the other hand, are little discs of rubber or silicone that slide over a standard strap and button to provide added security. They make a great alternative to strap locks for players who don't want to modify their instruments. Popular options include the Fender Strap Blocks and Ernie Ball Strap Locks, which are available in several colors to provide a put-together look onstage.
