Hyper-advanced, Easy-to-use Tone Model System

IK Multimedia’s TONEX Capture is a cutting-edge Tone Model builder, allowing you to effortlessly create a digital profile of any amplifier or pedal’s true-to-life tone! By rigging up the TONEX Capture to your amp and audio interface, you can easily create an IK Multimedia digital Tone Model that replicates every nuance of your amplifier and cab’s (or pedal’s) response, providing you with a software emulation that Sweetwater guitarists find is virtually indistinguishable from the real thing. In addition, the TONEX Capture also doubles as a re-amp box — an essential tool for guitarists and producers looking to audition their direct tracks through a multitude of real-world guitar amps. If you’re looking to dive headfirst into the advanced modeling world of IK Multimedia’s robust TONEX ecosystem, there’s no simpler way to do it than with the TONEX Capture.

Simplify your Tone Modeling

An all-in-one device that removes the need for re-amp boxes, attenuators, mics, load boxes, and other convoluted setups, the TONEX Capture represents an intuitive and straightforward way to capture all your favorite amps as Tone Models! After rigging up your audio interface and TONEX Capture to your amplifier/cab, all you need to do is send through IK Multimedia’s special guitar (or bass) capture dry track. The post-amp wet track can then be captured either directly, with microphones, or even a combination of both! Then, IK Multimedia’s AI Machine Modeling analyzes each facet of both tracks using a neural network, providing you with your own hyper-realistic digital emulation of your amplifier and cab. This process is so cutting edge that your amp and cab can even be separated after creating your tone model, allowing you to audition any number of different digital cabs with the Tone Model of your amp's head. Plus, the Tone Model system is also fine-tuned to capture the character of all your favorite stompboxes, which, just like the amp Tone Models, can be saved as incredibly accurate digital emulations.

The TONEX Capture can create Tone Models of your amp both directly and with microphones.

The perfect re-amp box

The TONEX Capture’s ability to perfectly profile your amp is easily worth the price of admission, but this little box also doubles as the ideal re-amping system! If you’re looking to augment your Tone Models with the sound of a mic’d amp, the TONEX Capture makes it a breeze to audition pre-recorded direct tracks in your DAW through a physical amplifier.

Plenty of studio-ready presets

Right out of the gate, the IK Multimedia TONEX Capture comes loaded with TONEX SE, a package that includes 200 premium Tone Models, 20 amps, 10 pedals, unlimited Tone Model Creation, and unlimited user Tone Model downloads. These versatile emulations offer a limitless level of sonic sculpting power, and they’re the perfect way to start off your IK Multimedia Tone Model collection.

IK Multimedia TONEX Capture Tone Modeler and Re-amp Box Features:

  • Creates hyper-realistic IK Multimedia Tone Models of your amplifier
  • Requires only a computer, audio interface, and amplifier — no load boxes, mics, or attenuators are necessary
  • Unique design allows you to capture your amp’s tone either pre-cabinet (directly) or post-cabinet (with microphones), or a combination of both

Reviews

Worked great for me!
I spent hours looking for a cheaper alternative, all the pros and cons, and finally said screw it and just paid the $$$$ for this thing seeing I had already invested a lot into the Tonex and other items to do the capturing. It can be confusing and some clones turned out better than others so I'm guessing it's a combination of knowing how to work the Tonex stuff and all of your equipment accordingly, and/or possibly that the Tonex stuff does a better job on some things than others. Haven't used it enough to know for sure but I had great results on at least 90% of everything I threw at it
Amazing!!! Lifelong guitarist - Tube Tone Lover - don't understand other reviews
This is an amazing piece of gear for any guitarist or studio engineer (even a home studio). If connected correctly, it's easy to capture fantastic tones from any amplifier, preamp, and a ton of pedals too. On a personal note, I especially love the presence knob built into the tonex software. The only limit holding back the Tonex is the quality of your recording preamp and audio interface. I've run everything from 100W Marshalls, to lowatt amps, to homemade preamps, guitar pedals, overdrives, vintage stereo amps, AA5 tube radios, power amps, etc. Try it out. IMHO, if your captures don't sound near identical to your recorded live rig, then something else is wrong in your signal chain (most likely preamp or audio interface).

What's not to like?
I'm confused by the other reviews. I got this unit last week and my first 3 captures are in the top 10 most liked on ToneNet this week. I'm not a sound engineer and this took me about an hour to figure out. Hint: If you don't know how to route signals on your audio interface figure that out first.

Bottom line is I'm perfectly happy with what this does and how it does it. I'm getting great results and setting it up was much less confusing than MIDI.

Tonex Capture Modeler
This thing seems like it is very difficult to use. Even with directions the time it takes and having a decent interface wasn't good enough. You need lots of inputs and outputs. I.K. Multimedia should have said "this is the interface we recommend you using" or if you have one that doesn't have a lot of inputs and outputs and good headroom for this unit to possibly work correctly. I would recommend using something else. Some people have good captures if all their hardware is good.
Make sure you have at least a 3 input Interface!
Captures sound great when you remember how to have all the wiring. It would be much better if I have an interface with at last 3 inputs / outputs. It makes it really difficult to capture when you only have 2 inputs and 2 outputs. It can be done but is a pain in the arse. They sound really good once you have done it like 10 times. It is better to have your gain maxed out and your eq at noon, I have found the captures sound better and you have wiggle room to re equalize the amp after to your liking.
