Harness Analog Character and 1970s Synth Panache

From Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark and Images in Vogue to Kraftwerk and Herbie Hancock, an iconic 1970s drum machine became the cornerstone of an immense constellation of synth-fueled pop, rock, dance, and electronic works that continue to influence music today. Behringer’s Syncussion SY-1 reimagines that hallmark piece of gear for the modern producer’s workflow while meticulously capturing and preserving its analog circuitry, much to the delight of Sweetwater’s synthesists. Its dual-channel architecture utilizes a pair of analog VCOs, each comprising six individually selectable oscillator modes. Both channels are outfitted with dedicated suites of LFO, Sample & Hold, envelope decay, width, and tuning controls, seamlessly navigated through its straightforward interface brimming with '70s-esque aesthetics. Its enhanced connectivity options span class-compliant USB 2.0 Type-B and 5-pin MIDI in and Thru connectors, and its removable housing allows you to utilize the Syncussion SY-1 in your Eurorack setup. No matter your production or performance preferences, the Syncussion SY-1 will seamlessly integrate and supplement your sound with flourishes of 1970s-flavored analog percussion.

Oscillate wildly with six degrees of versatility

Like its predecessor, each channel includes six oscillator modes that can be independently designated: single-oscillator, FM, dual-oscillator mix, dynamic-oscillator mix, FM-noise mix, and pure noise. Pitch, envelope decay, and filter width parameters offer a broad array of sound-shaping capabilities, letting you inject all manners of momentum and dynamism into your percussive performance, from clanging snares and booming basses to speed-variable sweeps and otherworldly zaps. What’s more, each channel’s LFO can operate with square or triangle waves to modulate pitch or filter parameters that yield evocative vibratos and punchy punctuation.

Comprehensive connectivity

Behringer’s diligent dedication to sonic preservation has allowed them to craft the Syncussion SY-1 with connectivity options that merge past, present, and future performance potential. Per-channel Trigger inputs return with adjustable sensitivity controls for each voice that mitigate the risk of unintentional triggering, whether used as a desktop drum machine or integrated with your Eurorack case. Both channels can be tuned via external sources with the 3.5-millimeter TS sockets, or you can opt for the 16-channel, 5-pin MIDI input for expanded interoperative possibilities. Furthermore, the Syncussion SY-1 is compatible with Behringer’s Synthtribe desktop app, which can be used to design and edit patches by connecting to the drum machine’s MIDI-capable Class Compliant USB 2.0 Type-B port.

Note: Behringer’s Synthtribe desktop app is a free-to-download supplement that requires an internet connection and a Mac or PC. Please contact your Sweetwater Sales Engineer or review our SweetCare guide to address any questions or concerns regarding use and compatibility with your Syncussion SY-1 or studio setup.

Kind of having fun with this machine
Upon arrival I immediately installed the Syncussion into my eurorack system. Connected both channels up to my Korg sequencer and I just started having a ball. The sample and hold for each channel made me smile and I am just scrapping the surface of this thing. The next on the to do list is to connect this baby up to my RS9 and trigger it as I do with the drum modules that exist in my system. This possibly can be my latest cat-nip.

Shout out to Sales Engineer Jim, love picking his brain!

This thing is great.
This thing is a joy to play with. You can get all kinds of funky drum sounds and baseline riffs out of it. Cevin Key of Skinny Puppy used an original Syncussion. He even made a limited run of his own modded version of the Syncussion. This thing is great for a fraction of the price a original would cost. If you want flexible beats and rhythms without a drum machine this might be what you want.
Really fun little synth!
Just got this yesterday, set it up and basically wasted the entire day making 2nd-rate Tangerine Dream clone sequences! It was the most fun I've had with a new synth in years! I had a blast. This gets a pretty wide range of sounds from a fairly limited set of controls. I have no experience with the synth this is modeled on, but I can now see why it became a classic. Seems well-enough constructed for the price, and sounds great.

Wow!

Incredibly easy to craft the sound you hear in your head. Super "DEEP" bass, crisp clinks, noisy clanks, booming bleeps. Great real time control. The sounds remind me of the Techno Godz "KraftWerk", one of my all time fav bands. I've been buying synths since 1983, (Moog "Source", my 1st) and this is one of the best synths I have ever owned. Well built, sounds freakin killer, and only $ (it's a no brainer).

I see myself buying a second unit. I'm using the Korg Drumlogue individual outs to trigger the SY-1 with great success. MIDI allows the SY-1 to be played like a analog synth or drum synth and works like a charm.

Special thanks to "Greg Savino" - 15 years of "GREAT"service!

The price is great ,but the build is a bit cheap. Trying to get the sounds its a bit of a challenge. Its kind of wonky.
