The Perfect Strat for Beginners, Kids, and Travelers

The Squier Mini Strat solidbody electric guitar makes a great instrument for beginners, youngsters, and travelers. This 3/4-size instrument might be cute, but it's also capable of becoming a tone monster when you plug it in. Like its big brother, the Squier Bullet, the Mini Strat uses three single-coil pickups, volume and tone controls, and 5-way pickup switching to give you an array of great sounds. It also includes a comfortable maple neck, an Indian laurel hardwood fingerboard, and a chrome-plated hardtail bridge. It's perfect for smaller hands and sized just right for taking on the road.

Conveniently compact

Whether you're a parent who's outfitting your budding rock star with a first electric guitar or a seasoned player looking for a travel-ready Stratocaster, the Squier Mini Strat is a fantastic 6-string option. The guitar's 22.75" scale length makes finger stretches much easier. Little hands will love the slimmer neck profile. And the Mini Strat's body is about 3/4 the size of a full-size Stratocaster, making it comfortable and easy to fit into overhead airplane compartments.

Big Strat tone

Like its bigger cousins, the Squier Mini Strat is loaded with the bell-like tones of three single-coil pickups. This electronics arrangement offers some of the most popular and iconic guitar tones in history. Combined with a 5-way pickup selector, a single volume control, and one tone knob, you'll be nailing the familiar tones of legendary Strat players, such as Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and Ritchie Blackmore. You'll even find a Mini Strat in many Sweetwater employees' personal collections for just this reason.

A Stratocaster in every way

All the refined details that have made the Stratocaster one of the most legendary instruments in history can be found on your new Mini Strat. The comfortable and familiar forearm and body contours make playing the guitar a joy. Your instrument will ring true, thanks to a rosewood-capped genuine maple neck. The 6-saddle hardtail bridge allows for fantastic intonation up and down the guitar's neck. And you'll love the striking image cut by the Squier Mini Strat's large '60s-style headstock.

Squier Mini Strat Features:

  • 3/4-size Stratocaster guitar, perfect for beginners and younger players
  • 3 single-coil pickups, just like you'd expect on a Stratocaster
  • Real maple neck with Indian laurel hardwood fingerboard
  • Large '60s-style headstock
  • Chrome hardware and tuners
  • Hardtail 6-saddle bridge

Reviews

Very Good Guitar
Awesome build quality and it sounds good for being a mini! I genuinely can't find anything wrong with this guitar. Highly recommended!
Impressive Mini Strat

I bought this guitar for my son, as a low-cost investment to see if he'd be interested in playing guitar when he's a bit older. I expected the guitar would need a bit of work upon delivery given the low price. However, I was beyond impressed with this guitar. Only changes I made was a Graptech nut (I had an extra laying around that happened to fit perfectly) and a set of 10 gauge strings to improve the tension a bit from the stock 9s.

The pickups are a bit noisy but it gives you those classic strat tones and plays both dirty and clean pretty well. I expected the tuners to be low quality but after tightening up a tuning head or two, I haven't had any issues with tuning stability/intonation.

I may have gotten lucky with this guitar being so great out of the box. However, with a proper set up (e.g., string height and intonation), a fresh set of 10s, and an understanding that this is a $ guitar that is easily upgrade-able if needed, I cannot recommend this guitar enough. It's a great size for kids or adults with smaller hands.

Great for kids; second life as a travel guitar
This was perfect for introducing both of my kids (10 and younger at the time) to guitar. Although I might not recommend purchasing just to be a travel guitar (the nut width and scale length are just a bit too short for an adult with mid-sized hands - there may be better options with full scale length), if you are considering getting one anyway, it actually makes for a decent travel guitar (even if you can't play quite as well as with full scale length). It travels well on airplanes with the optional gig bag made specifically for it.

If you are buying for a child, note that it will likely benefit greatly from having a setup done on it (this is very much a real guitar, but any guitar at this price point is less likely to play great right out of the box; with the one I bought, I thought the pickups sounded pretty lousy until I adjusted the pickup heights). For a travel guitar for an adult, you may consider putting 10s or 11s as strings on it; I found it took 10s without any changes to the nut.

Nothing
This guitar is perfectly great after you put good strings on it. I suggest 11s,and with heavier strings you get the similar tension and feel as a full-sized Fender. The pups are decent, and the setup it comes in is perfectly fine. I've used it to record songs at home. It's the cozies, most super-playable guitar ever. It's a real Strat, for all practical purposes. Mine is in the bloodiest, deepest red I may have ever seen, and looks very cool. At under $, just get it.
