Aggressive Tone, Custom Looks

If you're like us at Sweetwater, you look back on the Superstrat movement of the ’80s with a certain fondness. Inspired by the hot-rodded S-style axes of years past, the Charvel Pro-Mod So-Cal Style 1 HH HT E is a bona fide shredder. It's got the Southern California look, screaming Seymour Duncan pickups, and a silky-smooth compound radius ebony fingerboard. The So-Cal comes loaded with a Charvel HT6 string-through-body hardtail for exceptional sustain and rock-solid reliability. Plus, you'll be impressed by the comfortable contours and blazing fast feel of the neck. If you're in the market for a fire-breathing axe that you can pull right off the shelf, the Charvel Pro-Mod So-Cal Style 1 HH HT E is your first choice.

Screaming Seymour Duncan Humbuckers

The Pro-Mod So-Cal Style 1 HH HT E comes equipped with a pair of Seymour Duncan pickups for a high-output, aggressive flavor packed with sweeping tonal versatility. First up, the bridge position sports a screaming TB-6 Duncan Distortion Humbucker — a model that more than lives up to its name, with a clear bell-like character that shines through even when chunking out ultra-high-gain drop-tuned riffs. Plus, the TB-6’s natural-sounding midrange, tight bass, and clear trebles deliver a fluid, vocal-like character that’s perfect for melodic work and rapid-fire soloing. Looking to dial down the gain? The neck-position SH-6N provides enough output to balance well with the bridge-position TB-6, but produces a slightly less aggressive tone that’s perfect for your cleaner moments.

Compound-radius Charvel Speed Neck

Every facet of the Pro-Mod So-Cal Style 1 HH HT E’s maple Speed Neck is primed for high-speed performance, but while it’s certainly on the leaner side, it’s by no means strictly limited to single-note solo applications. In fact, Sweetwater guitarists of all stripes have come to favor the wide “U”-shape of the Speed Neck — especially as the ebony fingerboard’s 12–16-inch compound radius offers comfortable chording down low, while simultaneously facilitating fleet-fingered technicality as it flattens out in the upper register.

The Pro-Mod Story

Charvel's Pro-Mod series guitars rock classic Charvel style, born in Southern California more than three decades ago. These axes are packed with the hot-rodded, high-performance features artists rely on: classic body styles, premium tonewoods, unfinished oiled necks, smooth, rolled fingerboard edges, scorching pickups, rock-solid bridges, and more. Take it from the guitar aficionados at Sweetwater: Get your hands on a Pro-Mod, and you won't let go.

Charvel Pro-Mod So-Cal Style 1 HH HT E Electric Guitar Features:

  • Contoured alder body shows off an undeniable California vibe

  • Seymour Duncan TB-6 and SH-6N Distortion pickups deliver hot-rodded tones
  • 6-way pickup switching system produces brutal humbucker and sweet single-coil tones
  • Push-pull coil tap unlocks sweet California twang

Reviews

Beast
This thing rips, it's extremely comfortable to play and plays amazingly. I love the color of it as well. Use it for hardcore but the more and more I play it the more I realize its versatility in other genres as well. My first Charvel and hopefully not my last cause this one made me a huge fan. Shout out Sweetwater for the insanely fast shipping too.
Charvel is special
This guitar is comfortable, the neck is fast and the finishing is excellent. The variety of tones and quality of this guitar makes it a worthy addition to the collection. I have several guitars ranging from an Epiphone Casino, sss strat to a hss strat and a Les Paul. I was debating if I needed this, given what I already had but took the plunge and am glad I did. This plays different than my other guitars and the Seymour Duncan pickups rip. I usually play this through my Soldano Astro 20 and it's hard to describe what an amazing pairing it is. This Charvel is comfortable to play for hours and nearly any variety of music works. It's stays in tune and looks the part. You will not be disappointed.
Charvel So Cal Primer Grey
This guitar showed up perfect. No issues at all. Well done QC! It plays and sounds great and the color is awesome! It's solid! My Sweetwater rep Jason Filoramo is the BEST!!

So glad I got a Charvel!
The So-Cal Pro-Mod is an exceptional value for its price. Yes, this guitar is a shred machine, but it is also versatile enough to work with many play styles. The Charvel neck is so comfortable that it is truly a pleasure to play all over the fretboard. The hardtail lets the strings ring right into the body, creating significantly more sustain than I was used to with a Floyd Rose tremolo. The Seymour Duncan dual humbuckers complete this superstrat, allowing for a wide range of tones (including blistering leads) while maintaining clarity. I love the primer gray body, because it really gives the guitar that modified hot-rod look. But it is also practical, because its matte finish is less likely to show scratches and fingerprints. The guitar came with surprisingly good action and intonation out of the box - I just needed to tune the strings a bit - and I had it shipped to Hawaii. My only criticism is the location of the input jack. It is right on the bottom of the body, which can be a little awkward when you play sitting down (but is not an issue when standing). If you are thinking about getting a Charvel, do it! My only regret is not having gotten one sooner.
Under the Radar
I have had more Charvels than should be allowed by law and this one caught me by surprise. The set up and playability of this has me scratching my head. Why is this the best Mexi I have had? Not sure but this one is it. Very glad I bought it and it was also at the nice price.
