Physical Control, Digital Exploration

Picking up on the work of its predecessor, Roland’s SPD-SX Pro Sampling Pad is a masterwork in terms of fusing the worlds of live and electronic percussive performance. Nine responsive, high-sensitivity playing surfaces are lined with customizable LEDs, creating a percussion playground as visually dazzling as it is sonically robust. Explore over 1,500 pre-loaded samples and 200 kit patches with the full-color display screen, accompanying a streamlined interface and robust I/O to easily integrate the SPD-SX Pro in any setup. Onboard effects and a 16-step sequencer allow for even greater expressive opportunities. Plus, a 32GB memory can convert and house high-quality audio samples to expand your aural arsenal. From solo to band play, in the studio or on the stage, Sweetwater’s production pros agree that the SPD-SX Pro is an unrelenting percussive powerhouse engineered for exploration.

Expressive playability with an expansive soundset

Roland's SPD-SX Pro features an expansive array of dynamic sounds that respond amazingly to the nine velocity-sensitive pads. Snare rolls sound natural, cymbals respond to every nuance of your playing, and percussion sounds have a lifelike feel to them you won't get anywhere else. Improving upon its predecessor, the SPD-SX Pro has increased the sensitivity of its three shoulder pads to improve crosstalk performance. Extensive connectivity options allow for hi-hat and footswitch expression control, alongside connectivity to accommodate upwards of eight distinct triggers for a total of 19 possible playing surfaces.

Intuitive sampling

You can create your own samples and loops from playing on the Roland SPD-SX Pro, or from an external audio source routed to the SPD-SX Pro’s 1/4-inch inputs. Just press a button to enter sampling mode, touch the pad you want to start recording, and touch it again to end recording and create a perfect loop. Real-time recordings can be saved as WAV files and immediately assigned, for on-the-fly improvisation. Plus, the onboard 32GB of internal storage is perfect for your own samples and sounds, capable of automatically converting incoming audio to 48 kHz/16-bit for crystalline playback.

Premium performance from the studio to the stage

Whether you’re flying solo, complementing a full drum kit, or integrating with an array of devices, the SPD-SX Pro has you covered. An intuitive UI includes access to 200 kit patches and more than 1,500 pre-loaded sounds, using a vivid 4.3-inch full-color display. Multi-color LEDs surround the pads, fully customizable for practical and aesthetic distinctions. Robust FX and sidechain possibilities elevate your sonic textures, and the 16-step sequencer adds plenty of layering and distinction to your performance. A dedicated SPD-SX Pro App can be used for deep edits and modifications of onboard, custom, or Roland Cloud samples. Utilize USB connectivity to send 8-channel audio and MIDI to your DAW of choice, expanding your repertoire for endless customization.

Version 2.0 update brings streamlined workflows and stronger creative control

Boasting enhanced workflow efficiency and expanded creative control, the SPD-SX Pro Version 2.0 update offers drummers the most substantial firmware updates since the sampling pad’s 2022 unveiling. To start, the Version 2.0 software update gives you backward compatibility with the previous SPD-SX, enabling you to avoid time-consuming sample uploads. Time Stretch and Tempo Sync allow you to change the speed of an existing sample without altering its pitch, both in real-time and offline. Additionally, the Version 2.0 update enables you to set Master FX by kit using the control wheels on the front of the SPD-SX Pro, rather than using a single overall Master FX. You’re also now able to dim the SPD-SX Pro’s panel LEDs in dark environments, such as stage productions, or boost them in bright situations, such as when you’re playing outdoors. Next, DJ Drop Mute allows you to play a continuous backing track and, using one of the SPD-SX Pro’s pads, temporarily mute it to all outputs while it plays in the background in true DJ fashion. Moreover, Trigger Mute lets you assign a pad to temporarily mute external triggers attached to the kit, enabling you to turn off trigger sounds on your acoustic kit only during specific moments. Finally, the Version 2.0 update includes a Kit List display, MIDI monitoring on the main screen, an enhanced Copy function, an upgraded Set All function, and more.

The ultimate machine
I've had countless setups through my 50 years of gigging. From carrying a 6 piece acoustic set to multiple electronic sets, to hybrid sets. This was the answer to my dreams. I use a triggered acoustic Bass allowing me to use my preferred double pedal), Roland cymbals; ride, two crashes and a hi-hat, all plugged into the SPD-SX Pro and use the pads for everything else. I can now imitate any drum set and on top of that, be set up in about 20 minutes.

THIS MACHINE A BEAST!!
The fact that I can have my Computer USB plugged up and still be able to play around with the pad is Amazing!! Serves very well as an output audio interface, especially for playback running stems. And I love the fact that I don't have to waste my precious time converting files because it does the work for me!!

My only thing is that I wish they had a way to bring back the tempo sync. I'm pretty sure that could just be a firmware update.
Tempo Sync On: Semi & Cents
Tempo Sync Off: Course & Fine

But other than that, I have no complaints whatsoever. The SPD-SX-PRO is an Amazing Investment!!

Awesome Product
Responsive
Love the Size, Sound and Flexibility
From amateur to professional - this drum pad is amazing. I am the amateur - my neighbor is a Marine who played in rock bands for years. We both love it! Works with my Bose speakers - or I can upgrade to a REAL professional sound system.

Thanks for a great product!

Great sounds and lots of ways to use it
I use drum pads to record the drum parts on my Tascam DP 32 hard disk recorder (I record originals and covers, playing guitars, keyboards, bass and singing the vocal parts). I record a scratch drum track with my Boss DR 880, then replace the drums by recording several passes on a drum pad unit. For years, I've been using a Roland SPD-6 for this. I record the drums in several passes, since I'm not good enough at drumming to do everything at once. I start out with kick and snare on one track, then high hats and toms, then cymbals. The SPD-6 is fine, it has nice sounds, but it only has 48 total sounds. The SPD-SX Pro has over 1500 sounds, and you can add more! Also, the SPD-6 has only 6 pads, so you can't have kick, snare, hi hat, toms, ride and crash cymbals in one kit. The SPD-SX pro has 9 pads, so one kit can contain all the normal drums. Besides that, the SPD-SX Pro can vary everything about each sound, including pitch, transients, panning (SPD-6 is mono), effects, etc. The menu system is very logical. Plus you can sample, loop and so much more. And the sounds are excellent in every category. I highly recommend this unit.

Simply put, modern electronic music wouldn't exist without Roland. Many of the electronic musicians here at Sweetwater cut our teeth on TR Rhythm machines and fondly remember programming our first TB-303s. We owe a good part of our careers to this amazing and innovative company. It's been fun to watch and grow right alongside Roland, as they've introduced wave after wave of revolutionary keyboards, digital pianos, and more. For example, Roland's V-Drum Kits continuously redefine the possibilities of electronic drums, beginning with SuperNATURAL technology to the latest Prismatic Sound Modeling. We're huge fans, and we'd love to tell you all about them. Whether you want a pocket-sized synth or a cutting-edge video mixer, if Roland makes it, then Sweetwater is 100% behind it.
