So much fun!
We love this thing so much we got a snare, hihat, and cymbal for it. The Gibraltar rack is great to add anything. The Roland foot pedals work amazing. All the outputs can work to track pads separately when recording. We have used elec drums quite a bit but it's nice to have a more human real feel but the digi sounds. Not even using it for loops and sampling yet. I did have some confusion about using it as midi controller using Logic's drum packs. Overall a great machine with a ton of flexibility and it's perfect in the studio.
SPD-SX PRO Sampling Pad
Hello,
I just recently unboxed and setup my new Roland SPD-SX Pro. I must say this sampling pad is a beast compared to others. So far I have been able to immediately navigate the hardware and software App, (free on Roland Cloud). The unit sounds amazing, has useful features, and will fit in any musical situations. I am loving this unit, and I have used others in the past, including Roland's SPDX pads. I will return with and updated review, once I dig-in to more features of this incredible instrument.

New toy is a luxury
This pad is the cream of the crop. I watched the video on the website which showed how the pad supplements a drum kit but that's not why I bought it. I'm currently playing percussion in the pit for musicals. As the only percussionist playing where it really calls for 2 players, the pad makes it possible to cover all the parts. Although nothing can replace live instruments, this is an excellent substitute. It is easy to assign samples to each of the 9 pads and there are multiple samples of the instruments to choose from. I have a lot more exploring to do and intend to use it to record my own music.
Roland SPD-SX-Pro. Excellent piece of gear sold by an amazing sales engineer - You rock Stuart Niven.
Hello,
I work with Stuart Nieven at Sweetwater. I find him very knowledgeable, easy to work with, and always willing to go above and beyond for his customers. I purchased SPD-ONE's before buying this and found that I needed to upgrade to the SPD-SX-Pro. Stuart made it a breeze for me. This is an excellent piece of gear. I am not a drummer, but I know Roland well, and they never disappoint.
The differentiator here is not the gear. It is the service I get from Stuart and his team at Sweetwater. He is always following up and checking in, even when I don't need anything.
I highly recommend Stuart and his team at Sweetwater. They are a team of first-class professionals and willing to go above and beyond for their customers, no matter what the issue is.
Thank you, Stuart, and thank you, Sweetwater.
SPD-SX Pro
Couldn't Be Happier!!
Great unit worth the $$
Got this for Christmas 2022 and was looking for something to add the plethora of sounds and samples needed for the music I play. Not only does this unit come with thousands of built in sounds, but importing and editing .WAV and MP3's, is child's play. This unit makes it so simple. I found a renewed joy in drumming. The ability to create specific kits and tailor them to specific songs is so easy. The larger LCD display give you a safe feeling that you will be able to get to the kit needed while transitioning songs.
A Great Tool for Creating!
I've used both the SPD-SX and the SMP. I'm enjoying this one more because of the editing app free download that's available. The files are converted on the fly to the correct format too, and that's a time saver!
Best of the SPD Series yet!
This model, although also the most expensive, is the best SPD type unit so far. The processing power yields performance for both playing sounds and even changing KITs on the fly. Something the Alesis Strike unit simply can not do. It comes with 1500 sounds built in. Good luck finding a list. Fortunately you can filter list by criteria and narrow it down to find what you are looking for. Of course, you are limited by what the unit comes with, but it is always nice to have some good stuff out of the box to play with. Just scratching the surface of what all it can do so far, but I think this is hands down the best unit out currently for this purpose. If you plan to perform live with one of these type of units, this is the one to get. You will not regret it once you pay it off!
This thing is a beast
I recently purchased this and omg I love it. This unit is built very well and its amazing for backing tracks. It's very user friendly and is a huge improvement compared to the old model. Its worth spending the extra dollars.
Just got this for a hybrid drum set up!
As a band, we had been using the Roland TD-50 since it came out. We have since moved to a hybrid drum kit and using the TD-50 only for snare, kick and tom triggers. I bought the SPD-SX Pro to handle this task live so I can use all the extra features of the TD-50 and home in the studio. This was an instant upgrade to the live show, here is why: You can send any trigger to any direct out with effect baked in. I send the kick trigger out dir 1, snare out dir 2, toms out dir 3 & 4 panned in stereo, and all the other pads out main L & R. Want a huge gated reverb snare? No problem, add your reverb and route to dir 2. Want a 808 kick drum on your acoustic set? Pull it up and out dir 1. This is just how we do it, you can find routing that works for you, but the results are massive for anyone doing a wide variety of music at a single gig. The 9 other pads allow for whatever you want for additional sounds. For a hybrid setup, we love this unit!
Cool sounds in five minutes
I was able to plug this in, plug in my headphones,
and play this with my hands quite easily. It responds to the touch of well placed fingers.
Just four stars because I wish it came with more "synthesizer pad" sounds. I know that they can be uploaded, I will do that.
The Roland SPDSX pro
I find this very challenging and daunting excellent machine. Besides, when you know what you're doing I still not register it yet. I feel no need for it right now but it's definitely something I'll be using in the near future in the studio.
