A Stunning Update on a Modern Classic

Yamaha’s Revstar Professional RSP20 is the flagship of the Revstar series, masterfully crafted in Yamaha’s renowned Japanese factory to serve as a shining example of all that the Revstar is capable of! This maple-topped double-cut’s lightweight chambered mahogany body is loaded with two Yamaha VH5 pickups that deliver bright and punchy tones that excel in almost any sonic application. The neck is comprised of carbon-reinforced mahogany, ensuring it will stay straight and true in even the most challenging of environments. What’s more, Yamaha equipped this Revstar with their proprietary “Focus” switch that shifts your tone’s resonant frequency and supercharges your pickup’s power. If you’re looking for a high-performance, no-nonsense axe with explosive tones, rock-solid playability, and sleek modern aesthetics, your search ends with the RSP20.

Comfortably curved Revstar body

The Revstar’s curvy lines and classic aesthetics are said to be inspired by the utilitarian British Café racer motorbikes found in 1960s-era London, adding a tough no-frills attitude to these sleek guitars. The unique double-cut chambered body was developed using Yamaha’s Acoustic Design process to optimize the Revstar’s balance, deliver a resonant tone, and reduce weight. One strum of the RSP20 is all it takes to see how Yamaha’s research paid off: the Revstar’s body is a supremely comfortable design that showcases Yamaha’s steadfast dedication to musical innovation!

Yamaha VH5 humbucking pickups for an articulate, powerful, and well-balanced tone

Yamaha spent a lot of time fine-tuning the pickups in the Revstar series — they tested over 50 prototypes before settling on the perfect combination of wire, windings, magnets, and baseplates for each guitar model in the series. The VH5 humbuckers in the RSP20 Revstar employ Alnico V magnets, a silver baseplate, and heavy formvar wire. This gives the RSP20 a bright and powerful sound that blends the richness and character of vintage electronics with the intensity and clarity of modern electronics.

Bring your sound into focus

Yamaha’s Revstar line already introduced their clarity-boosting “Dry” switch, and the RSP20 offers another distinct tonal feature to stand out from the crowd: the “Focus” switch. This dual-purpose push-pull switch adjusts the resonant frequency of your guitar’s tone and kicks up the power. When testing it out at Sweetwater, we found that it’s an incredibly versatile feature that’s just as good at achieving “rolled off” jazz tones as it is for boosting your amp into overdrive territory.

Reviews

Awesome … and not surprised!
High-end Yamaha guitars are second to none. I own a AES1500 and a SA2200, so I knew what to expect. This Revstar Professional does not disappoint.

Extremely playable, with a neck that feels great in the hands, and tone for days. The stainless steel frets are amazing. I typically install stainless steel frets on all my guitars, and this one saved me the money and effort. I wish more companies would realize the market for this. Stainless steel frets feel and sound better in every way IMO, not to mention durable as heck, so you'll never need refretting.

The electronics are high quality, and the mid-boost tone pot is great for cutting through on solos. In fact, this feature eliminates the need for mid-boosting pedals like TS/Klones/SD1's etc. It doesn't add the drive, but it adds the tone and volume.

100% satisfied with this purchase. It's making me consider selling my Les Paul.
Music background: 38 years of gigging and playing for fun
Build quality is superb
I also got a fair bit of tonal range. Can play clean, crisp low tone jazz melodies, but also muddy lead tones.
RSP20 Sunset Burst
SO I received my RSP20 Sunset Burst about 2 months ago. Took about six months from the time I ordered but that was expected. Much thanks to Keaton Vegades, my sales engineer for making it happen. To the point, the build quality on this guitar is easily as good as any high-end Gibson, Fender, PRS, Gretsch, etc. In terms of cost, it punches well above its weight. The neck is a nicely full feeling "C" shape. Fuller than my Tele but not as full as a 50's Les Paul. Just perfect.
Sound is subjective so I'll just say that if you like humbuckers, the guitar is versatile enough to cover whatever your thing is. Between the 5-way pickup switch and the push/pull mid-boost, you have more options than most players would ever use. After playing almost every day for a couple of months, the guitar only sounds better and better. It was quite easy to get a sound I liked. Anyway, it's a great guitar. Very happy with my choice after a lot of research and second guessing during the waiting period.
Music background: Experienced
Versatile
You can get a variety of tones with this guitar. Build quality is first rate and the components have a high-end feel to them. The center of gravity is a bit rearward, which means that while playing seated the guitar wants to lift the headstock a little bit (much the same as a Gibson LP). I offset this tendency by attaching a capo or tuner to the headstock. There is no tendency to lift the headstock while playing standing with a strap.
