Delivers Accurate Full-range Audio at Low Volumes

Would you mix while wearing earplugs? Of course you wouldn't! Then why would you mix with subpar monitors? After all, you'd get similar poor results. Reviews

Probably the most cost effective and useful speaker for mixing at any price
Given that you know how to position them correctly (and manually correcting low mid frequency bump for desktop placement), they have one of the best transient response and near flat frequency response. I don't know about the Auratones, but these sounds much more pleasant than other similar cube speakers. Some people might argue that their frequency response is too wide for focusing on the mids, in my view they are very accurate on the mids, and they better represent modern devices like laptops, phones, TVs. If you want to focus more just on the mids, you can always just roll off the frequencies yourself, which makes them more flexible in my opinion.

Very Eye-Opening and Reduced Ear Fatigue
As an amateur "audio engineer," mixing has been a huge challenge. I have been trying to gain experience with different speakers, headphones, and monitors - both for listening to music and for mixing. The Reftones are affordable, and the frequency range of these speakers is vastly narrower than a standard studio monitor + subwoofer setup. It really opened my eyes to the real 'mid range' and how much detail resides therein. I can mix or listen to music at very low volumes and hear everything with much more clarity.

Because I can enjoy these at low volume, I am actually using them at my desk while working to listen to music during the day. Great for jazz or classical, or for a new perspective on any of your favorite genres. The reduced range allows me to listen all day without any fatigue.

I am driving mine with the ART SLA-IV and configured with Sonarworks.
Music background: Drummer
Practical for Mixing
The range of frequencies produced by these speakers allows you to REALLY hone in on certain aspects of your mix. I use 8 inch monitors, a 12 inch sub, and have configured Sonarworks in a semi-treated room. That's great, but having the Reftones gives me another perspective. The clarity is exceptional. I also use them to listen to acoustical music like jazz trios, because the detail is such a joy. You can also power them with a specialty tube amp to really spice things up.
Hear Your Mix from a New Angle
Briefly: The speakers provide a very clear and detailed picture of the mid and high ranges. Very useful for making mix adjustments in those ranges, or for hearing your favorite songs in a new way.

When I heard about the Reftones, I knew they would be a good fit for my needs. I already owned a small, boutique amplifier, so the total cost for me was super low. It's a pleasure listening to jazz, orchestral, and any other organic sounding acoustic music on these speakers. Stringed instruments in particular are mind-blowing, as are vocals. Even acoustic bass is great, which is a relief because it's often difficult to hear clearly through my main setup.

For any given song, I could see myself mixing some tracks on these speakers, and others on my main setup. For example, on a modern pop song, I'd mix everything on these first, then use my main monitors to circle back to the bass guitar, FX, kick drum, and any other low range instruments.

Last thing to mention is that I'm very curious to see how these perform with different amplifiers. As I mentioned, I'm using a very niche boutique tube amp with A LOT of character, and these speakers allow that character through seamlessly. But, I'll probably pick up one of the suggested ART amps for a more 'neutral' picture.

If you're on the fence, just buy a set and give them a try. Listen for a few hours and see how it goes.
