Red Panda's Particle 2 is a follow-up to their Particle delay and pitch-shifting pedal, and Sweetwater’s guitar gurus can confirm that the sequel is a marked improvement on its predecessor. This redux not only adds new features, but improves on the existing elements, cleaning up the design to be more ergonomic while taking up less space (via smaller housing). Beyond the basic delay, the granular function is augmented by its pitch-shifting abilities, offering five different delay modes, three different pitch modes across a ± 1 octave range, a delay length of 0 to 2.5 seconds, and adjustable parameters for grain size, density, and feedback. New to this iteration is MIDI compatibility, presets, tap functions for tempo and delay, as well as a freeze function. An iOS and Android-compatible TouchOSC template and a web-based editor open even more options that, frankly, you need to hear for yourself!

The Particle 2’s form factor not only takes up less pedalboard space, but its ergonomic knob arrangement is also conducive to real-time modification and sound design. Glitch, stutter, and stretch your sounds in new ways, with detune, density, and LFO pitch-shifting modes. Reimagine your delay five-fold using random, density, LFO, random pitch, and reverse options, and combine them for a master control of all grain parameters. The four onboard presets were already generous, but the MIDI compatibility means up to 127 additional options. USB or TRS MIDI connectivity also accommodates clock synch, assignable expression, and more. Use independent tap divisions for delay time, grain size and density, and LFOs, or automatically manage freeze and stutter parameters with an adjustable threshold. Additionally, Red Panda touts the inclusion of “hidden parameters” that are only accessible through their web editor, which you'll you'll want to make time to discover for yourself.
