T-style Guitar with Snarling Vintage Tone

Looking for a vintage-flavored electric guitar with undeniable style and snarling tone? Then plug a Schecter PT Special into your favorite amplifier. Built from a solid slab of swamp ash, this T-style axe simply bleeds harmonic resonance, while a custom set of Diamond pickups serve up classic, muscular-sounding tones by the truckload. You also get a push-pull that toggles between series and parallel pickup wiring, providing access to a multitude of mind-bending tones. The easy playability of the PT Special’s satin-finished, maple neck and top-shelf hardware, including Grover Vintage tuners put the finishing touches on the PT Special.

Stunning PT-style construction

The PT is one of Schecter's most identifiable models. Since its beginning in the hands of Pete Townshend, the PT has been a dyed-in-the-wool rocker while tipping its hat to a vintage platform. The PT Special’s swamp ash body yields a balanced, musical blend of brightness, warmth, and harmonic-soaked midrange. The guitarists here at Sweetwater really dig the PT Special — it’s a top-shelf vintage-style electric guitar.

Two custom pickups, tons of amazing tones

Schecter didn't just give their PT Special any old set of pickups, they outfitted it with a pair of their innovative Diamond pickups. The Diamond VT-1 bridge single-coil yields a vintage-tinged blend of clarity, twang, and muscle. The Diamond V-90 neck pickup exhibits a P-90-style tone that’s chock-full of snarling treble and meaty midrange. There's also a push-pull built into the PT Special's tone knob that enables you to toggle between series and parallel pickup wiring.

Just-right playability

This Schecter PT Special’s neck is expertly carved from a piece of rock-hard maple. A maple 12”-radius fingerboard caps this great-feeling neck. Its "C" neck profile is an exquisite balance of hand-filling comfort and fleet-fingered playability. Add a fingerboard outfitted with extremely durable extra-jumbo frets and a TUSQ nut that ensures your strings never bind, and the PT Special plays as beautifully as it looks.

Reviews

Really nice guitar after I modded it.
I bought this guitar to modify it to my specs from another dealer, but I did play it before I modded it. I really did not like the electronics at all. I could not get the tone I was searching for with the stock wiring. The body and neck are grade A, very nice action, as good as my spendy Gibson Goldtop. So I modded the electronics with a four way switch with parallel/series, cloth wire, CTS pots and an orange drop cap. I also had to make a pick guard for it to work with the new control panel.

The pickups sound pretty good in all of my amps, good beefy tone from the p90. One of my go to guitar rigs now. This thing is a major sleeper, I was going to buy one of the Jimmy Page Dragon Tele's before I found this one.
First Schecter. Not my Last!
First a Shout Out to Josh and Sweetwater support. They are the best! I purchased this guitar as a Demo and had a minor issue. They went above and beyond and took care of it quickly!

I am one of those players that "mods" just about every guitar I buy because I want an instrument that inspires me! So I look for "good bones" and a platform to make something special. This T-Style guitar did it for me!

The craftsmanship is by far the best I've seen in this price range. I'm a big fan of Jumbo Frets. The fretwork is shiny and level. Just holding this guitar feels good. It's balanced and lightweight (I have a bad back). The contours are a real nice addition for comfort and access to the high frets. The finish feels like a real chunk of wood if you are not into thick Poly finishes. The neck is comfortable and feels like roasted maple (even though it is not in the specs)

Take off the pickguard and control plate and the wiring and routing is top notch. Full size pots and switches that are solid, no need to swap.

Only parts I changed were the pickups. I live in an old house with old wiring and single coils do not play well here so I opted for an overhaul. Your mileage may vary because the stock ones are well made. The P90 really impressed me with braided shielded wiring and I'm a fan of series/parallel to expand your tonal options without adding more noise. I put a Chopper T in the bridge, with Push/Pull series/parallel along with a little cap/resistor magic to allow an authentic single coil tone in parallel. I also put in a noiseless P90 style humbucker in the neck. The stock "slanted" compensated brass saddles are fine, I just decided to put my own in.

One thing to be aware of if you want to change the bridge, for some odd reason the string holes are drilled further back than your standard Tele making most aftermarket "Modern" bridges not an option due to the extra length the saddles need to move forward. I think an ashtray bridge with brass saddles are what make a Tele, so I'm happy with the stock one.

Amazing neck!
The saddles need to be slotted. That's it. I don't know how they got the neck so smooth. I have 5 guitars and this one gets played more than its share.
Schecter is hot
I love my PT telly
It plays great it's just so good
The only thing I don't get is the saddles I'm ordering slotted saddles
My plank
I really like this guitar the fret work is just sweet over all a great guitar . There was only a couple things that bother me
1 the 3 way switch crackles and has a dead spot and the volume pot crackles. Also the nut wasn't glued in its free lol. I didn't send it back because I dint want to take a chance at getting back a replacement. I think the problems on my guitar are a rare thing for schecter. I would buy another schecter for sure this thing is very nice
