My plank

By Charles Brann from NORTON MA on December 13, 2023 Music Background: Guitar player

I really like this guitar the fret work is just sweet over all a great guitar . There was only a couple things that bother me
1 the 3 way switch crackles and has a dead spot and the volume pot crackles. Also the nut wasn't glued in its free lol. I didn't send it back because I dint want to take a chance at getting back a replacement. I think the problems on my guitar are a rare thing for schecter. I would buy another schecter for sure this thing is very nice

My favorite guitar

By Mike from California on July 21, 2023

The first one arrived with a bad nut and I had to send it back in. The replacement was in perfect condition and I've had it just over a year now. It not the most expensive guitar I have, but it is the one I like the most, primarily because of how comfortable the neck is. I find myself wishing my other guitars felt as comfortable in the hand or looked as nice as this one does. I don't have super fancy amps, but at least to my ear it sounds very close to a standard telecaster in the bridge. I mostly use it in open G to play Keith Richards stuff and it emulates those sounds very well. It makes me wish Schecter had more vintage looking models, because I'm not a fan of a lot of their more metal looking guitars just for aesthetic reasons, but this one really is a joy to play.

Really nice guitar after I modded it.

By Sweetwater Customer from Frenchtown, MT on November 4, 2022

I bought this guitar to modify it to my specs from another dealer, but I did play it before I modded it. I really did not like the electronics at all. I could not get the tone I was searching for with the stock wiring. The body and neck are grade A, very nice action, as good as my spendy Gibson Goldtop. So I modded the electronics with a four way switch with parallel/series, cloth wire, CTS pots and an orange drop cap. I also had to make a pick guard for it to work with the new control panel.

The pickups sound pretty good in all of my amps, good beefy tone from the p90. One of my go to guitar rigs now. This thing is a major sleeper, I was going to buy one of the Jimmy Page Dragon Tele's before I found this one.

Outstanding guitar! Great Value

By Mark James from Cochrane, AB on April 28, 2022

Bought this guitar sight unseen based off of reviews. Played many tele styles in guitar shops in different price ranges before settling with this, so I was unsure what I was going to open a box to. I am very impressed with Schecter's build quality. Right out of the box I was happy I didn't buy any of those other guitars I tried, at any price tier. The fretwork is flawless and the finish on the neck is fantastic. Plays and sounds great. If you are on the fence about Schecter, just go for it and don't look back. You will not regret it.

Schecter PT Special

By Harry Kaneakua from Griswold, CT on March 24, 2022

I normally don't do reviews, but had to for this. I have loved the Tele style guitar ever since I picked one up at a friends house. I was trying out the MIM tele's and noticed the quality of the Fender MIM was not as good as I remembered. The frets on the MIM cut into my hands and it did not sound good at all. Tried different MIMs and they seemed all the same.

I took a chance with this PT special from Schecter. I played my son's CR6 and loved the feel of his. Watched YouTube videos of the demos. So I pulled the trigger on this beautiful guitar. Sounds and plays amazing. The hardware on this guitar is well above the standard for a guitar at this price range. The neck is smooth and cutouts on the body makes it comfortable to play. Did not think that would make a difference, but it does. Could not be happier. Great job Sweetwater as always.

I always get my gear from Sweetwater. I ordered this thing at Midnight Wednesday the 23rd and it arrived at my door the today the 24th. Thanks Billy Germano for always taking care of me.

Extremely Impressed!

By Paul from Phoeniz AZ on July 29, 2021

I was looking for a Tele style guitar and am bored with what Fender has been offering. I checked out Schecter and was surprised by the specs. Big jumbo frets, nice contoured body, brass bridge and Grover vintage tuners. But all that's on paper. When I received it I was stunned. Just the feel of holding it makes me happy. Beautiful finish and binding, neck is so smooth. I like how Schecter tinted the neck and fret board. It looks great! The P90 on the neck sounds like no other, bridge pick up sounds like it should. Just a great tone man! It has a push pull thing on the tone knob but I don't use it. This thing stays in tune! The guitar is light weight and just sounds and plays fantastic. I'd like to seriously thank Austin Zachrich. He's a smooth dude who handles crisis very well. We had a few snags in the process but it all worked out and that's customer service! I would advise to always get a setup. Mine was perfect and I'm not kidding. Just perfect! I'd like to give shout out to the tech but I can't make out his/her name on the slip that was filled out.

First Schecter. Not my Last!

By Jennifer Haines from SF Bay Area on July 21, 2021 Music Background: Music Heals & Unites Us All

First a Shout Out to Josh and Sweetwater support. They are the best! I purchased this guitar as a Demo and had a minor issue. They went above and beyond and took care of it quickly!

I am one of those players that "mods" just about every guitar I buy because I want an instrument that inspires me! So I look for "good bones" and a platform to make something special. This T-Style guitar did it for me!

The craftsmanship is by far the best I've seen in this price range. I'm a big fan of Jumbo Frets. The fretwork is shiny and level. Just holding this guitar feels good. It's balanced and lightweight (I have a bad back). The contours are a real nice addition for comfort and access to the high frets. The finish feels like a real chunk of wood if you are not into thick Poly finishes. The neck is comfortable and feels like roasted maple (even though it is not in the specs)

Take off the pickguard and control plate and the wiring and routing is top notch. Full size pots and switches that are solid, no need to swap.

Only parts I changed were the pickups. I live in an old house with old wiring and single coils do not play well here so I opted for an overhaul. Your mileage may vary because the stock ones are well made. The P90 really impressed me with braided shielded wiring and I'm a fan of series/parallel to expand your tonal options without adding more noise. I put a Chopper T in the bridge, with Push/Pull series/parallel along with a little cap/resistor magic to allow an authentic single coil tone in parallel. I also put in a noiseless P90 style humbucker in the neck. The stock "slanted" compensated brass saddles are fine, I just decided to put my own in.

One thing to be aware of if you want to change the bridge, for some odd reason the string holes are drilled further back than your standard Tele making most aftermarket "Modern" bridges not an option due to the extra length the saddles need to move forward. I think an ashtray bridge with brass saddles are what make a Tele, so I'm happy with the stock one.

Terrific Guitar

By Sweetwater Customer on June 8, 2021

This guitar is a standout. Fit and finish are outstanding. Tonals/sound make my other Ts pale by comparison...the ash, P90/sc combination really works. Sounds great through all my amps. Great neck. I've been through more than a dozen guitars to get to this one. Just WOW! Most highly recommended.

Agreed that this is an outstanding guitar

By PCB from Puget Sound on May 18, 2021 Music Background: home studio dude from way back

It's funny I'd never given too much thought to Schecters, until actually buying one, and then another one. One of my 2 Schecters is a Diamond Series 'Tele' with neck P90 and 'traditional' bridge pickup.

Agreed that this is flat out, a great guitar.

My only quibble is the thing with the saddles pieces not being 'notched', and with a similar observation, that the strings can 'slide around' on the saddles.

So, off to investigate replacement saddles.

In any event, this is truly a great guitar. It really does sing.

Better than my MIM Fender

By Gary Russell from Arizona on July 13, 2020 Music Background: 30+ years non-professional

I bought a Fender Player series Telecaster made in Mexico and although it was a nice guitar, it just didn't sit right with me for a few reasons.
I really like the looks & sound of a Telcaster so I started looking at other brands and came across this Schecter. They seemed to fix or modify every complaint I had with the Fender.
1st thing was the Fender was not comfortable to play and would dig into my ribs, but the Schecter has relief cuts that make them much more comfortable against your ribs as well as an angled relief for your forearm and elbow.
2nd thing is the Fender has a 9.25" radius fretboard while the Schecter is 12 inch. My opinion is the flatter radius is much more comfortable and easier to move about the fretboard, especially when doing a lot of string bending. The Schecter neck is not too thick and is simply a better, more comfortable neck overall for me.
The Schecter comes with grover tuners that work just fine and stay in tune very well.
The only complaint I had with the Schecter ( which may not be an issue for others ) was the bridge saddles. They are intonated brass saddles, but have no string grooves to keep the string spacing accurate. The "B" and "E" strings had a habit of moving up against the height adjustment screws causing a slight buzzing in addition to changing the spacing. I ended up buying a set of Gotoh "in-tune" titanium compensated saddles that completely eliminated all the issues as well as adding a bit better sounds. The titanium saddles are a bit pricy, but turns the PT special into a great guitar.
I can't really give a fair comment on the frets because the Guitar I have was professionally "Plek'd" by Sweetwater before I ever got it, so I don't know what they were like from the factory. With the Plek service done the action is superb and it allows the action to be set very low without any buzzing at all.
Bottom line the Fender & Schecter are both nice guitars, but for about the same money the Schecter wins out by a good margin for comfort and playability.

Schecter does it again!

By Pete S from Kato MN on January 2, 2020 Music Background: All styles. Local guitar tech.

I wanted a tele style guitar that wasn't a fender. So why not stick with the good ol folks at schecter and low and behold they kill it with the pt special! Schecter is my go to because of the great quality of guitars they produce. The specs on this far outweigh any fender or squire tele at this price range. And the p90s make it sound the way I like. Neck is butter and don't get me started on the sexy raw tone sunburst color! The heal is cut for the high up the neck playability and the whole body is contoured to feel great on your lap or with your strap. Why spend 2 grand on a ultra tele when you can get this for a faction of the price. Plays better too. As a guitar tech I definitely approve of this fine instrument!

Good Guitar, Bad Bridge

By Benjamin Darr from Linton, IN on August 18, 2021 Music Background: Gigging Musician

I think this is a good guitar, but I had some problems with the bridge. All of the height adjustment screws settles while playing, lowering the action and knocking it out of tune. I know some loctite would fix that but the lack of groves for the strings created its own tuning issues. Ive changed the bridge out with a 6 saddle Fender and its WAY WAY more stable.

The rest of the guitar is phenomenal. The neck is smooth and the frets are well done. The pickups sound great. It would be a real 5 star if it wasnt for that bridge. But hey, maybe I just got a bad one.
