Practical Personalized Monitoring

The Rolls PM50se Personal Amp is a small amplifier that's packed with robust features for monitoring and recording. Representing an improvement on the original design of the PM50, the PM50se adds more control parameters and is perfect for podcasters, drummers, sound engineers, and more. At its core, the PM50se allows enhanced monitoring controls and boosts playback volume; it can also increase the gain of microphone and line-level signals. Some potential uses for PM50se include personalizing a studio track’s live or playback volume, a useful feature when recording loud instruments such as drums, or using it to keep your mic gain and headphone controls easily in reach when recording vocals.

Ports and gain

The PM50se boasts tons of features for such a small box. Onboard, you'll find mono or stereo 1/4-inch monitor inputs, 1/4-inch and 1/8-inch headphone outputs, and two XLR ports with a line/mic level selector and a mic-through design for simple integration of the PM50se into your studio. Choosing the 1/4-inch output offers up to 20dB extra gain while opting for XLR output offers a whopping additional 50dB of gain. Here at Sweetwater, we love how loud this little amp can get. Plus, its compact lightweight design makes it easy to pack on the go for mobile recording, podcasting, and general amplification needs!

Reviews

Does the job perfectly!
For a home studio this is the perfect headphone monitor, allowing the performer to adjust their own level and the level of the mix tracks (not individual instruments). I have re-labeled the MIC and MONITOR level pots as ME and THEM. I only wish this would come with a mic stand mounting. What surface are you supposed to sit this on while recording? I have had luck using a cell phone mic stand adapter with zip ties. All my clients are perfectly happy.
Great Little Monitor
I jam with a up to 18 people every week. Everyone plays acoustic guitar and takes turns signing. The large group makes it hard to hear myself sing when it's my turn. This in-line monitor is exactly what I need to remedy the problem. I run my mic to the monitor before going to the mixer board. Using ear buds I can hear my own mic clear as day. The volume control makes it easy to adjust what I hear without effecting the signal going to the mixer.
Others in my group have taken an interest into getting one for themselves!
(I use ear buds with a 5 foot cord, as a regular 3 foot cord is too short)

Wow - Amazing Desktop Headphone Amp
Described as a 'Personal Monitor Amp', but what it does for headphones and microphones in my recording and mixing process is well beyond expectations. Small footprint, but amplifies everything in an extremely transparent way. Provides clarity and added volume bump - without sounding overly loud. Hearing things when recording and mixing that I've never heard before and makes all of my headphones and mics just sound way better. Really gives the AKG K702's that boost needed that you will not get without a headphone amp. Construction and quality of this Rolls unit is truly Five Star. 'Built like a Tank' as so many are fond of saying. Made in USA and just oozes solid goodness.

Great little amp
I'm using it for my In ear monitor amp. As a drummer I was carrying a Carvin wireless unit previously. Switched to this, set up/tear down is a little faster & this actually sound better than the wireless unit I was using.
Music background: 40+ years rock/country
Excellent Recommendation
I narrowed my search down to 3 or 4 preamps, and Greg told me this one was best, and also made in the good ole USA. I'm new to the world if in ear monitors, but I'm loving this thing so far. Thanks again to Greg.
