Honey, They Shrunk the P Bass!

Scaled down for younger players, the Squier Mini Precision Bass delivers the stellar P Bass look and sound in a compact poplar body and a shorter-than-short-scale maple neck. And, like its big brother, the Mini Precision Bass pumps out the familiar P Bass tone through its split single-coil pickup. It’s been said that bass players aren’t born, they’re made. Just kidding, no one’s ever said that. But if your child is a little groove monster in the making, you can’t go wrong with putting a Squier Mini Precision Bass in their hands. For parents at Sweetwater, Squier’s Mini guitars and basses, including the Mini Precision Bass, are a go-to choice when selecting an instrument for their aspiring musicians. Start them out right with a great instrument made just for them!

A Precision Bass, only smaller

A rock ’n’ roll icon, the original P Bass design was inspired by the Fender Stratocaster’s contoured double-horn body. The Mini Precision Bass retains the shape but scales it down to nearly three-quarters of its original size, perfect for younger players. Beyond that, it’s a P Bass through and through, decked out with chrome knobs, a rock-solid hardtail bridge, and a vintage-style single-ply pickguard, so there’s no mistaking its heritage.

Timeless split single-coil tone

A workhorse in the studio and on the stage, the P Bass has a legendary tone, owing to its split single-coil pickup design. The Mini Precision Bass pumps out that classic sound — fat low end, punchy mids, and crisp highs. With a single Volume knob and a single Tone knob, the Mini Precision Bass has plenty of tonal variation, whether you want to stand out from the band or tuck in behind the drummer and help hold down the groove.

Comfy neck for small hands

The Mini Precision Bass’s diminutive neck measures in at 28.6 inches, nearly two inches shorter than a typical short-scale bass. And featuring a comfortable C-shape profile and satin urethane finish, it’s incredibly easy to move around on — especially for small hands. Capped with a lively laurel fingerboard decorated with pearloid dot inlays, the Mini Precision Bass’s neck not only looks sharp but also sounds great.

Squier Mini Precision Bass Features:

  • 3/4-size Precision Bass, perfect for beginners and young players
  • Split single-coil pickup produces classic P Bass tone
  • C-shaped maple neck with laurel fingerboard facilitates playing comfort across all 20 frets
  • Durable chrome bridge and sealed die-cast tuners ensure proper tuning stability
  • Synthetic bone nut consistently enriches string resonance

Reviews

Squire PBass Mini
Very nice little bass I upgraded to high mass tail piece Flat wound strings and Seymore Duncan Quarter pound pickups & antique ivory pearl pick guard added some strap locks really enjoying this little bass
Mini Precision
I like short scales and this one caught my interest especially after seeing a video showing how it would sound with the DiMarzio Relentless Pickups. I got this bass with the intention of doing a few mods. I had GHS Precision Flats installed and the DiMarzio Relentless Pickups and I'm quite happy with the results. One important thing about these pickups is that the screws that they come with are too long and will go through the body so just use a correct size and it's ok. I'll include the video here.

LOVE. THIS. MINI. P !!!
I mainly play Precisions and, quite honestly, I just wanted this in my collection. But I'm writing this review for anyone who wants to get their kid a QUALITY starter bass. The tuners stay in tune, the bridge is solid, the fretwork is near perfect (no filing needed), knurled flat-top knobs (not domed), and he pickup is stock Squier Affinity split P. It's a great travel bass or a perfect starter. I'm even thinking about modding a Jazz pickup in there to make a mini P/J bass. GET THIS !!!!! See side-by-side pic for size.

Exceeded my expectations.
Upon receiving it, I was more pleased than I expected to be. The neck is fantastic (like a jazz bass, but a bit narrower at the heel end), and the fretwork is surprisingly very good for an entry level Squier. The factory setup wasn't terrible, but did need some adjusting—I am sure there are variations in quality control on these basses given the price point, but my experience has been a good one. The stock pickup lacks the range and clarity I prefer, but I didn't expect it to be great, so I am not disappointed by the sound. The tuners seem to be adequate so far, and I doubt I will change them unless I start having issues. I have done a few minor upgrades, mostly cosmetic. Great playing little bass for people of any age or skill level. I'll be buying a mini Jazz, should they ever decide to start making them.
