Classic Precision Bass from Squier

The Squier Affinity Series Precision Bass PJ puts classic P Bass tone and feel into your hands at an amazing price. Featuring a lightweight, resonant polar body, this bass guitar is friendly on the back for hours of performance. The combination of Precision and Jazz Bass pickups in this stellar bass gives you the vintage, gritty Fender tone that has won over so many players over the decades. And since each pickup has its own volume knob and master tone knob, you can tweak your tone to your preference. The Affinity Series Precision Bass PJ features a maple neck and a 20-fret laurel fingerboard for fast, comfortable playing and wide-open stylistic exploration. Vintage-inspired tuners complete the setup on this stunning instrument.

Vivacious Precision Jazz versatility

Giving you the best of both bass worlds, the Affinity Series Precision Bass PJ arms you with tonal versatility. The split-coil P Bass pickup gives you an aggressive, meaty tone, while the J Bass single-coil pickup delivers a crisp, full-bodied sound for a bass that is balanced, versatile, and classic Fender all the way. Bassists at Sweetwater love having a bass like this in their instrument arsenal — it can suit a range of styles and playing situations.

Reviews

Great bass or a low price--great value
I got this bass for my spouse who LOVES TOOL's bass player, Justin Chancellor. Justin's favorite bass is a Fender '63 P-bass. Well, that is out of budget but this one was perfect as a starting point. I swapped in a mint pickguard and Fender '63 vintage pickups to get as close as possible to Justin Chancellor's #1 bass. My spouse knew instantly that it was meant to copy JC's favorite bass.

Now, I'll be honest. At this price point, Squier doesn't finish the neck's to perfection. But in 30-40 minutes anyone can do that finish work. I sanded the unfinished neck with 5 levels of sandpaper starting with 1000grit up to 10,000 grit. Now, it feels like a gloss finish. Also, I spent a little time to dress the fret ends which took about 10 minutes. The result is a gorgeous bass that feels and sounds incredible.

Did this bass need any mods? No. The neck would play just fine for most beginners. Was it worth the money and the elbow grease? For us, yes. It's now my spouse's favorite bass (out of 5). For such an affordable price, this bass is a bargain--with or without any mods. I took off 1/2 a star only because of the neck. (I also matched the color and mint pickguard on my Squier Tele.)

Tried the Squier against the fender same model and they sounded the same. Fender obviously looked a little better

Love this bass
I've been a fan of every Squier bass I've come across in the last 25 years and was so happy to finally get my own. The PJ pickup configuration with a separate volume control for each pickup combined with the tone knob gives you a huge range of sound. I've also enjoyed running it through my guitar octave fuzz pedal into different amplifiers.
My bass was playable right out of the box with no setup required. It was packaged securely, as well.
It was the exact bass I was looking for and I've enjoyed playing it more than I expected. I'm normally a drummer and have played some guitar, but I can honestly see myself playing bass more frequently with other people.

1st bass for a lifetime guitar player
I've been playing guitar for about 15 years (on and off), and decided to pull the trigger on bass because, why not?
I bought this with the rumble 25 amp, the same one that comes with the starter pack. All i did was do a setup, cleaned up the fret ends as they were a little sharp, but hey, its a Squier so your getting a Squier finish. HOWEVER, do not let that discourage you from picking this up. I'm incredibly surprised at how well it sounds amd plays. I do my own setups, so it will DEFINITELY improve the feel. This is a GREAT entry level bass and amp for the price. Squier has definitely upped its game to compete with the entry level gear and this one is no exception. If you don't know how to do a setup, pay for one and you'll be very happy.
Way Better Than I Expected — Instantly Fell in Love!
Honestly, I grabbed the Squier Affinity Series Precision Bass in Lake Placid Blue thinking it would just be a backup. But the second I pulled it out of the box and plugged it in, I knew this bass was going to get way more use than that.

First off — the finish. Wow. The Lake Placid Blue looks so much better in person than in the pictures. It's got that classy Fender vibe that just makes you want to play. Every time I open the gig bag and see it, I can't help but grin a little.

The neck feels great — slim, fast, and super comfortable even after a couple hours of noodling around. The PJ pickup setup gives you a ton of flexibility too. Want deep, thumpy basslines? No problem. Want a little bite and brightness? Just roll in the bridge pickup. Easy.

Right out of the box it needed a tiny bit of setup (the action was a little high for my taste), but that's super common, and it was easy to tweak. After that? Plays like butter.

It's light on your shoulder, easy to carry around for practice or small gigs, and it sounds really, really good for the price. I've even tracked a couple home recordings with it, and it sits in the mix way better than I expected.

Is it perfect? No. But for the money, this bass absolutely crushes it.
If you're on the fence — get it. You'll end up playing it way more than you think.
