Very Impressive

By Steve Fitzgerald from Woodbine,MD on February 6, 2024 Music Background: Multi instrumentalist.

This is my first passive 'P' bass. Love the middle pickup. The jazz/bridge Pup isn't terrible, just relatively more quiet. I own many other basses, including some boutique basses costing much much more. As a 'P' type bass , it's really excellent. Very round and smooth sounding with a lot of usable range.

You'll be amazed

Buy it right now from Sweetwater. The bass will bae "RIGHT" because it's Sweetwater! This will make a great bass for someone starting out, and even a pro that wants a back up.

Excellent Bass

By Emory Atkins from Oak Point, TX on September 27, 2022 Music Background: Professional musician, composer, and recording artist.

I've been playing the bass since 1974, and I've owned some very expensive original brands in my years. There was a time in the eighties when I could afford the most expensive basses in the world and owned four that was custom-made for me. Having said that, over these many decades, I've come to realize a lot of what we think we know about the instrument is shrouded in personal pride and brand recognition. We pay thousands of dollars for something, more because of where it was manufactured and less because of how it looks, feels, or sounds when it's in our hands. I own about a dozen Squire Precision, Jazz, and Jaguar basses made in Indonesia, ranging in price from $299-$499. Each of them is just as good as their Japanese, Chinese, or South Korean cousins and equal to the level of quality made in North America. The only difference I can see is the brand. This bass is a quality work of art. You should be proud to own one of these Squire Affinity basses or guitars, no matter what your level of experience requires. These are darn good guitars.

Wanted a PJ for a long time, found this blue eyed baby and I'm so glad I got it from Sweetwater! First off, thank you to Jeff Roeling my sales engineer for outstanding service and for the guitar tech that completed the this pre ship inspection. It's feel is amazing up and down the neck. I might add for a great price. Thanks Sweetwater!!

Not Too Shabby!

By Chris Hughes from Mays Landing NJ on February 6, 2024 Music Background: rock, metal, classic rock, almost everything else (no disco)

I had went to a competitors store and had seen this on their rack. I played it and thought it was right on the money for me and the cost wasn't the lower price that Sweetwater advertised, so I went ahead and ordered it from Sweetwater. It got here as promised and I did the 24 hour wait after it took out of the box, tuned it up and got the same vibe with this guitar that I got in the store. I've since put Elixir 14677's .045/.105's on it and I haven't been disappointed with the sound or the guitars action. Would I but this again? In a different color but yes I would!

Great bass or a low price--great value

By Robert Trivetti-Salvat from SAN FRANCISCO, CA on May 1, 2022 Music Background: Hobbyist player and collector

I got this bass for my spouse who LOVES TOOL's bass player, Justin Chancellor. Justin's favorite bass is a Fender '63 P-bass. Well, that is out of budget but this one was perfect as a starting point. I swapped in a mint pickguard and Fender '63 vintage pickups to get as close as possible to Justin Chancellor's #1 bass. My spouse knew instantly that it was meant to copy JC's favorite bass.

Now, I'll be honest. At this price point, Squier doesn't finish the neck's to perfection. But in 30-40 minutes anyone can do that finish work. I sanded the unfinished neck with 5 levels of sandpaper starting with 1000grit up to 10,000 grit. Now, it feels like a gloss finish. Also, I spent a little time to dress the fret ends which took about 10 minutes. The result is a gorgeous bass that feels and sounds incredible.

Did this bass need any mods? No. The neck would play just fine for most beginners. Was it worth the money and the elbow grease? For us, yes. It's now my spouse's favorite bass (out of 5). For such an affordable price, this bass is a bargain--with or without any mods. I took off 1/2 a star only because of the neck. (I also matched the color and mint pickguard on my Squier Tele.)

Fender Squire PJ Affinity base

By John Tucker from Bryson city on April 11, 2022 Music Background: Hobbyist, worship, classic rock and Blues

I needed a bass guitar as I was always borrowing friend's. . I play one in church.. I needed one at home to practice on. I am a guitarist and have been for many years. I bought the base that is placid blue. First impressions is that the base is extremely well-made. The neck is very thin free of any sticky residue, paint or lacquer that would slow your fret hand down. It sounds great for a $300 list price. I noticed a minor tint blemish regarding the ebony fretboard. It balances well - like a precision base. I like the added flexibility of having humbuckers up front and a single coil in the back. Lots of different tones are available to you.The tuners seem very well-made.
I don't think you could go wrong with this base guitar. Sweetwater did a great job getting it to me ahead of time. It was packed so well I I think it could have withstood the earth's reentry. Hope this review helps.

Good starter bass

By mukesh from Birmingham, AL on June 15, 2022

I play guitar, not bass. But I've always wanted a bass for a little side fun, so I got this one and play it through a 50W Orange Crush combo amp. Wasn't sure if I wanted a P or a J, so this gives you both which is nice. Overall good quality, looks solid and very pretty. Fretboard was thirsty for some lemon oil, soaked it right up. Fret work is good, tuners work well, knobs all work and have expected resistance. Given this is a low-priced bass, you will need to set it up. Mine had a lot of fret buzz, mostly managed by truss rod adjustment. Now it sounds way better, but I may still want a professional setup to be sure. I also changed the strings, unsure if it would make a lot of difference. It turns out, I really prefer the sound of my new strings (Rotosound Swing Bass strings). For my novice needs, this bass is more than enough, but if you are new to bass like me, factor in the cost of a professional setup at least, and maybe some new strings at some point.

Of course, Sweetwater delivery was faster than expected, they always come through.

Nice bass for the price

By Rick from Stonington CT on June 11, 2022 Music Background: 30-year drummer, 2 years keyboard, 2 months bass, 2 months electric guitar

The bass guitar was actually purchased for my business partner's students. He gives bass and electric guitar lessons and I give drum lessons. But since I received the bass guitar, I haven't been able to put it down!

Necks could be better

By Sweetwater Customer from NJ on May 7, 2022

The first one I ordered had a truss rod that just didn't work. It was stripped and the wrench kept getting stuck. Swapped it out for a new one and I'm getting some fret buzz from some uneven frets. There's also some weird high pitched harmonic at the bridge on the d string I can't get rid of

The body is great and the fish has no issues. The pickups are fine, but I switched them out.

If you get one and the neck is good then this can be a great bass. I just didn't get lucky with mine.
