A High-speed 6-string Stallion

A no-nonsense take on the classic Fender Mustang, the Squier Sonic Mustang HH is teeming with alt-rock attitude! This guitar’s slightly compact offset poplar body is loaded with a pair of Squier ceramic humbuckers that deliver both raw, biting rock fury and full-range cleans. Next, the neck’s laurel-on-maple construction and C shape provide a feel that strikes a balance between playing comfort and high-performance playability. Prefer an instrument with a slinky string feel? The Mustang’s classic 24-inch scale length offers a relaxed tension and reduced fret-to-fret travel distance — perfect for developing guitarists and players with a slightly smaller grip. Whether you’re after an attitude-equipped first instrument or looking for a bold new sound to add to your arsenal, the Squier Sonic Mustang HH is a short-scale powerhouse.

A classic alt-rock tonal recipe

The Sonic Mustang HH takes a turn from tradition with a hot pair of humbuckers! While this combo certainly wouldn’t be found on any old-school Mustang, the combination of a short-scale Fender-style instrument with two humbuckers arguably defined the raw, unrefined tones of the grunge and early indie-rock eras. This guitar’s dual Squier ceramic humbuckers deliver a present, in-your-face attitude that cuts right through a band to stand front and center in any mix. Prefer a cleaner tone? Sweetwater guitarists find that the Sonic Mustang HH’s neck pickup delivers deep, rich cleans to complement its aggressive dirty tones, offering the perfect sonic combo for players looking to capture “loud-quiet-loud” alt-rock style.

Low-tension 24-inch scale length

While most Fender/Squier 6-string instruments feature a 25.25-inch scale length, the Mustang clocks in at a slightly shorter 24 inches. What does that mean for you? More relaxed playability up and down the fingerboard, with a shorter distance between each fret and slinkier string tension. Make no mistake — it’s still a full-size instrument (as evidenced by the legions of alt-rock and indie players devoted to the Mustang family, including the late legendary Kurt Cobain), but it does offer a significant fingerboard advantage to a player with smaller hands or a musician looking for a snappier sound and feel.

Maple neck with a comfortable C carve

The Squier Sonic Mustang HH’s maple neck will surely please players of all styles and backgrounds, featuring a crowd-pleasing C profile. It’s more than substantial enough to accommodate any player while sporting a lightning-fast feel for fleet-fingered runs. Up top, the fingerboard features Narrow Tall frets and a modern 9.5-inch radius, providing slick, fast playability with no fret-outs.

Squier Sonic Mustang HH Features:

  • Lightweight poplar body in a highly comfortable offset body shape
  • Packed with iconic Mustang-style alt- and indie-rock flavor
  • C-shaped maple neck facilitates playing comfort for extended playing sessions
  • Laurel fingerboard with a modernized 9.5-in. radius for effortless bends up and down the fingerboard
  • Dual Squier ceramic humbuckers kick out raw, in-your-face driven tones with a beautifully full-range clean response
  • Rock-solid 6-saddle top load bridge reduces string change times
  • 24-in. scale length for a slinkier feel with reduced string tension

Reviews

Shockingly Great Quality!
Bought this for my "Nirvana-Obsessed" son on his 9th birthday. I am really blown away by the quality, sound and out-of-the-box set-up. Neck feels great. Pick-ups have usable, even-volumed, tones in every position. No unwanted noise. Stays in tune! (even higher on the neck) I don't write reviews unless I'm really impressed by something and want others to know. Traditionally, I've not enjoyed Squier offerings. But, there seems to be a recent upgrade in the quality control, materials and player-minded design. This guitar actually feels like a musical instrument. As a former, touring professional, I was really pleased to give this as my son's first guitar.
Great Guitar for Modding
Fantastic guitar - intonates perfectly and the neck is absolutely perfect. Having smallish hands - I love the short scale. I have totally modded this guitar, not because I had to, but that is my thing. New bridge - added drill through holes and changed all of the electronics. I have NYXL balanced 11's on it and it feels great. Honestly, it is hard to believe the price for point for this well-made guitar.

Great starter guitar that fits me. Like the California Blue finish and light body. Controls, pickups, and tuners good. The 6th string came buzzing, the other strings fine. It's a keeper, thanks Sweetwater!
squire mustang / and ibenez / and the new 100 watt amp ! and a telecaster on the way .
i'm a very very happy customer !
Unbeatable value. 100% pure fun.
I absolutely love this guitar! I bought one of the special edition green ones and I'm floored at the value and quality for $. Maybe I got lucky, but mine was in amazing condition. No sharp frets, the controls work perfectly, and the finish is excellent. The only thing I did to it was to change the strings, adjust the action, polish the frets and oil the fretboard. 45 minutes of work, and now it plays like a dream. I like it every bit as much as my $ telecaster. I can't put it down. It's just so fun to play. Absolutely the best $ I have spent. Honestly, it's better made than any player series Fender that I've tried. Fender can learn a lot from its bargain brand, Squier.

Eventually, I may upgrade the tuners and pickups, but it's totally usable as-is. This one is a keeper! Buy one.
