Get Loud with This Mighty Pencil Mic

Are you looking for a robust dynamic instrument mic that’s also easy to position? This Beyerdynamic M 201 dynamic instrument microphone is sure to please. Part of Beyerdynamic’s vaunted M Series, the M 201 is a dynamic pencil microphone with a 40Hz to 18kHz frequency response that honestly recreates any sound across nearly the entire audio spectrum. Its hostaphan diaphragm has incredible impulse response, which makes the M 201 ideal for louder instruments such as guitar amps and snare drums. However, the M 201's focused, hypercardioid polar pattern and slight treble boost make it an excellent choice for speech-based recordings as well. Finally, an internal hum compensation coil that reduces electromagnetic interference (EMI), coupled with a tiny shape and size, means that the M 201 is extremely easy to implement into any stage or studio setup.

Beyerdynamic: quality you can count on

Beyerdynamic microphones are held in high esteem at Sweetwater due to the company's unwavering commitment to excellence since its founding in 1924. The M 201 — like all Beyerdynamic products — is designed and crafted in Germany to the most stringent engineering standards, using only the highest-quality materials. Experience the Beyerdynamic difference: add an M 201 to your mic locker today!

Beyerdynamic M 201 Dynamic Instrument Microphone Features:

Reviews

The dynamic you’d swear was a condenser
Title says it all. This mic not only looks like a SDC, it sounds like one too. And sounds like a good one at that. I was shocked at the sounds I was getting from a dynamic mic. I've used it on live acoustic guitars where I was worried about feedback. Also, great on percussion, snare, and amps. What a 57 wishes it could be. Great value and quality you would expect from Beyerdynamic.
Fantastic versatile workhorse mic
I just have to reiterate all the 5-star reviews here. This mic is one of the most versatile problem solvers you'll find. I've used it on snare, electric guitar, acoustic guitar, live trumpet, hi-hats, vocals, and other things. It has the clarity of a condenser but the focus of a dynamic and is solidly built. I have one, but need a 2nd so I can do top & bottom snare, live acoustic & vocal, or even use them for overheads in challenging live situations. Wait, I might need 3 so I can use em on toms! I know they'd be good there too. No matter if you do more live or studio work, having one or two of these will solve a lot of problems while not sacrificing fidelity. These mics are aces. Get a couple!
Music background: mostly mixing & mastering guy but I still sometimes record stuff
The definitive snare mic
If you are serious about recording snare, this is your mic. Fantastic isolation, punchy and authoritative. Easy to mount and position. Its tight pattern really helps separate from hats and racked tom sympathetic ringing.

But don't worry, it sounds great on guitar cabs and even vocals for the right voice and style. It's well worth adding to your collection.
Top Mic
I use this for my vocals with the Beyerdynamic foam made for it. It's spectacular! Rich and full sound! You can feel you entered into the sweet spot pickup pattern due to its light hostaphan membrane. Added a little more top end and went to town! A definite first class vocal microphone!
Music background: Professional
Great mic
I use this mic mainly on guitar and some percussion and it is hands down one of the best sounding mics I've ever used. Highly recommend.
