Gibson’s Les Paul Studio: Refreshed and Better Than Ever

The Gibson Les Paul Studio packs classic tone and premium playability into a straightforward axe built to appeal to no-nonsense musicians craving a genuine Les Paul experience. The Les Paul Studio flaunts a maple-capped mahogany body, which is chambered for weight relief and given an eye-grabbing nitro lacquer finish. This solidbody electric guitar’s mahogany neck brandishes Gibson’s crowd-pleasing SlimTaper neck profile and traditional heel for maximum comfort and a slick-playing Indian rosewood fingerboard, which is now bound for a smoother feel and added visual appeal. A set of Burstbucker Pro pickups provides you with a gamut of PAF-flavored tones, while push-pull volume knobs give you access to coil-split single-coil textures. You also get head-turning acrylic trapezoid fingerboard inlays, a “Les Paul Model” headstock overlay, and a Gibson logo headstock inlay for authentic Les Paul aesthetics. The Gibson Les Paul Studio is truly better than ever, and we’re confident that discerning players searching for a real-deal Gibson at an accessible price point will find it impossible to pass up.

Contains bona fide Les Paul DNA

Although the Les Paul Studio was designed as a stripped-down, no-frills version of the Les Paul, there’s no mistaking this solidbody electric guitar for anything but a genuine Gibson Les Paul. This instrument boasts all the essential Les Paul features, such as a mahogany body, a maple top, a glued-in set neck, and Gibson USA humbuckers — everything that makes a Gibson Les Paul a Gibson Les Paul. Moreover, today’s Les Paul Studio also includes 1-ply fingerboard binding and coil-split Burstbucker Pro pickups, easily making it the most feature-laden version of the Studio ever. At this price point — and with these features — it enables players of all stripes to get their hands on an authentic Gibson Les Paul.

Burstbucker Pro: a modern spin on classic PAF sonics

Gibson’s Burstbucker pickups rest firmly in Sweetwater’s pickup pantheon as a top-tier PAF, but what if you’re after more power than a vintage-style humbucker can provide? Enter the Burstbucker Pro, a fatter, more powerful spin on time-tested PAF sonics. Burstbucker Pro pickups deliver all the classic characteristics of a top-notch PAF — exceptional clarity, a remarkably dynamic feel, and ample vintage-accurate warmth — but swaps out the lower-output Alnico II magnets for Alnico V. This results in a more aggressive attack and enhanced low-end response. Moreover, Burstbucker Pro pickups feature wax potting to cut down on hum and squeal. For the player seeking a vintage-style PAF that’s not afraid to venture into higher-gain territory, you’d be hard-pressed to beat Gibson’s Burstbucker Pro humbuckers.

Your conduit to effortless playability

Players who find vintage Les Pauls heavy and unwieldy (but who love them anyway) will be pleasantly surprised when they pick up the Gibson Les Paul Studio. To start, its Ultra-Modern weight-relieved construction shaves down the guitar’s total weight without affecting the natural acoustic tone of its maple-over-mahogany body. Its SlimTaper neck profile and traditional heel provide outstanding hand-cradling comfort. Finally, the Les Paul Studio’s bound Indian rosewood fingerboard ensures a smooth feel that’s guaranteed to yield hours upon hours of inspired playing. Simply put, the Les Paul Studio was tailor-made for marathon-length gigs; it’s a Les Paul you can play for as long as you want without repeated trips to the chiropractor.

Reviews

This Really Is the One.
I bought this guitar a year ago and have decided now to write a review. Like many Gibson players, we dreamed of owning their guitars but they were always out of reach. When Gibson announced the new line of studios it was the perfect moment in my life to finally get my dream Les Paul sans the body binding (which is just decoration). I just love everything about this guitar from the finish to the sound. The stock pickups are in my opinion versatile, thanks to having coil-tap and being able to handle high gain metal due to the exported alnico v pickups. I would like to thank Joe Perrone who made ordering off Sweetwater easy and he was very communicative. It was my first purchase and I plan on ordering future guitars from Sweetwater!
Incredible

If you are wanting to buy a Gibson Les Paul then this is the guitar for you. It is at the high end of affordable but the low end of the Gibson pricing structure. It has incredible sound and playability. Mine has one of the most amazing plain tops I have ever seen. This guitar is basically a standard without body binding. The upgraded burstbucker pro pickups leave you wanting for nothing. Get one today.

The Gibson Les Paul Studio: Pure Tone, Pure Value (or, more Paul, for Less)
If you're looking for the legendary Les Paul tone without the premium price tag, look no further than the Gibson Les Paul Studio. This guitar is a testament to the fact that you don't need all the bells and whistles to achieve sonic bliss. It's a stripped-down, no-nonsense workhorse of a guitar that delivers exactly what matters: that iconic Les Paul sound.

From the moment you pick it up, you can feel the quality. The mahogany body and set neck provide the foundation for the warm, resonant tones that Les Paul's are famous for. The Studio forgoes some of the cosmetic appointments of its more expensive siblings, like elaborate binding and figured tops, etc. - but this is where its genius lies. By focusing on the core elements – the wood, the pickups, and the construction – Gibson has created an instrument that delivers exceptional tone at an accessible price.

The humbuckers in this beast are where the magic truly happens. They deliver that thick, creamy tone with plenty of sustain and bite. Whether you're playing bluesy riffs, crunchy chords, or lead, the Les Paul Studio responds with power and clarity. It cleans up nicely when you roll back the volume, offering a surprising amount of versatility. However, the coil-splits are a little disappointing - not near as bright as you would expect from a single coil pickup, but just the opposite - kind of dark, even with the tone controls rolled all the way up. Still useable, just not what I expected - certainly not a deal killer.

What truly sets the Studio apart is its value proposition. You're getting a genuine Gibson Les Paul, built in the USA, with all the essential ingredients for that classic tone. You're not paying extra for fancy inlays or binding; you're paying for the sound, the feel, and the legacy.

If you're a player who prioritizes tone over aesthetics, the Gibson Les Paul Studio is a no-brainer. It's a workhorse guitar that will inspire you to play for hours on end. It proves that you don't have to break the bank to experience the magic of a Les Paul. This guitar is a steal, and it's a must-have for any serious guitarist.

Pros:

Authentic Les Paul tone
Excellent value for money
High-quality construction
Versatile humbucker pickups

Cons:

Lacks some cosmetic appointments of higher-end models (but that's the point!)
Coil-split is not as bright of a tone as one would expect from single coil pickups.

Verdict:

The Gibson Les Paul Studio is a tone monster that offers incredible value. It's the perfect choice for players who prioritize sound and playability over fancy extras. If you're looking for a genuine Les Paul experience without the premium price, this is the guitar for you.

From rockers to jazz cats, there are generations of guitarists right here at Sweetwater who swear by Gibson guitars. Not only do they make many of the most iconic solidbody electric guitars of all time - the Les Paul, the SG, the Flying V - but they also produce classic hollowbody and semi-hollowbody models and some of the most iconic acoustic guitars on the planet. Our close relationship with Gibson often allows us to stock exclusive models and rare finds, and we're always happy to turn players and collectors on to the gems in the Sweetwater Guitar Gallery.
