Classic Vibe '60s Jazz Bass

First introduced in 1960, the Jazz Bass has withstood the test of time to become one of the most played and recorded instruments in modern music history. Inspired by the original, the Squier Classic Vibe '60s Jazz Bass is an incredibly affordable instrument with the classic J Bass offset-waist body, fast-action neck, and dual single-coil pickups. Squier's Classic Vibe '60s J Bass is remarkably comfortable to play and lets you pull off extremely tight runs and grooves with ease. Of course, it also delivers the legendary punchy bass sound you can only get from a pair of Jazz Bass pickups.

Timeless single-coil bass sound

Although the versatile Classic Vibe '60s Jazz Bass sounds great in just about any context, it really shines on musical styles that rely on that classic scooped, growling bass sound. That being said, you can achieve a myriad of tones by blending the volume of both Fender Designed Alnico single-coil pickups to taste. Whether you play rock or country, funk or blues, or (naturally) jazz, the Classic Vibe '60s Jazz Bass will deliver the tone you need.

Shaped for comfort and performance

One of the things that made the J Bass an instant hit with working bass players was its unique offset-waist body shape. Perfect whether playing standing or seated, the classic Jazz Bass contoured body will make those marathon gigs and sessions much more comfortable. With its slim C-profile neck that's only 1.5" wide at the nut, this instrument was originally designed to appeal to jazz bassists. The slender neck not only facilitates the fluid execution of fast, complex bass lines; it's perfect for any musical style — which is why you hear the Jazz Bass in every genre of music.

Join the ranks of Jazz Bass players

Pick up the Squier Classic Vibe '60s Jazz Bass and you've got affordable entrée into the company of some of the greatest bass players of all time. World-renowned bassists such as Jaco Pastorius, Geddy Lee, Marcus Miller, Larry Graham, John Paul Jones, and Victor Bailey all chose the J Bass as their go-to axe. Sweetwater's advice: If you want the iconic round and punchy, growling J Bass sound along with effortless playability — and an amazing value, to boot — you're on the right page. Pick up the Squier Classic Vibe '60s Jazz Bass and drive your music with legendary tone.

Reviews

Awesome bass!
I will say, out of the box, it did need a good setup. After that, what a great instrument! Fit and finish is excellent, and the gloss tinted neck looks expensive. Also got a nice dark fretboard. The pickups sound really pretty good and it's nice to get alnico at this price. The hardware is also great quality and contributes to the vintage look. If I had to complain about anything, and it's definitely not worth taking away a half star for, is the pots+output jack. I will probably have a pure tone jack put in sometime because the stock jack just feels a little cheap. The pots as well but really not too bad. Overall, can't go wrong with this! Great bass for any level!
Music background: Drums, keys, guitar, bass
Amazing for the price!
Let me start by saying I have been playing bass for 50 years. And in that time I have played every make from Fender to Rickenbacker to Gibson to Hofner and everything in between, both vintage and new. I can't find a single thing to fault on this bass. Tuners are tight, the fretwork was excellent and the pickups actually sound pretty good. The intonation was spot on out of the box. The only thing I had to do was lower the action. I waited to find a light one. Mine is only 8lbs. 4oz. Can't see how you could go wrong with one of these. You can always upgrade the pickups and electronics and still save a boatload of money.
Not impressed, at first.
I have a Squier CV 70s P-Bass (black, black binding and block inlays) and am absolutely blown away. GREAT BASS!
I decided to order the CV 60s J-Bass because the Precision was so good. I was at bit underwhelmed. I didn't like the Indian Laurel fingerboard and the thicker (VERY slightly - if any, might be my imagination) neck. I adjusted the truss rod a little and treated the fingerboard with mineral oil. MADE A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE. I really like the 60s feel of the neck. I can now glide along the fingerboard. I love this bass too! These are really nice. I have some high dollar basses, these are every bit as good!
The only negative I have with the Jazz bass is the side fret markers. They are hard to see against the somewhat lighter color of the Indian Laurel wood.
Don't know about Squier Affinity, Vintage Modified, or CV 50s basses but the Classic Vintage (60s and 70s) are pro quality.
Music background: Been playing since the 60s
Classic J-Bass
Excellent bass for the money! As always, the staff at Sweetwater is amazing and really helped with my order.
Great bass
The Squier classic vibe 60s jazz bass is a great bass for the price. The neck plays vary smooth, the sound is really nice and it just feels good setting on my knee. I put some flat wound strings on it and lowered the action a little and it's just a great instrument. Also buying from Sweetwater makes buying anything vary easy. Thanks Mitch!
