A Portable Hybrid Interface with Stellar Performance

The MOTU 624 hybrid audio interface packs high-end sound, ultra-low latency, and generous I/O into a portable half-rack unit. ESS Sabre32 DAC technology delivers an impressive 123dB of dynamic range on balanced, DC-coupled analog outputs. Experience round-trip latency as low as 1.6ms at 96kHz via Thunderbolt and 1.9ms via USB. 32 total channels of audio I/O make connecting your instruments, microphones, and outboard gear easy. An onboard DSP mixer provides latency-free routing, along with an array of powerful digital effects. Use the 624 as a standalone mixer, or control it wirelessly from your tablet, smartphone, and laptop. Both onstage and in the studio, the MOTU 624 delivers.

High-end converters, ultra-low latency, and ample I/O offer top-shelf performance

Sweetwater and MOTU have enjoyed a long-standing relationship, due to MOTU's products offering our customers superb sound and solid performance. The 624 follows suit, packing top-notch sound, impressively low latency, and ample I/O into a portable half-rack enclosure. Renowned ESS Sabre32 DAC technology delivers 123dB of dynamic range, ensuring the 624's analog audio quality can hang with the most impressive gear on the market. Optimized drivers yield round-trip latency as low as 1.6ms at 96kHz via Thunderbolt and 1.9ms via USB. Packed with connectivity, the 624 includes 8-in/8-out of analog I/O with two stellar microphone preamps, two hi-Z guitar inputs, 4 x 6 line ins/outs, and a stereo headphone output. The 624 also supplies you with eight channels of digital I/O via ADAT.

DSP-fueled mixer with EQ, compression, and effects

The MOTU 624's built-in digital mixer delivers large-console-style mixing with 48 channels, 12 stereo buses, and 32-bit floating-point effects processing, so building complex, latency-free routing schemes is a piece of cake. And routing is extremely flexible — send any input to any output, or even multiple outputs. Add Classic Reverb, with lengths up to 60 seconds, sculpt your sound with a 4-band British parametric EQ, and apply vintage compression that's modeled after the legendary LA-2A. The 624's mixing and effects DSP engine exhibits virtually unlimited headroom and outstanding sound quality.

Control everything from your laptop, tablet, or smartphone

If you connect a wireless router to your 624, you can access all of its internal mixing functions, including effects and processing on your tablet, smartphone, or laptop, turning this powerful audio interface into a fully capable standalone mixer. Best of all, the control software is web-based. It runs in your favorite web browser on Mac, Windows, Linux, iOS, or Android — basically anything — as long as it's on the same network.

Expand your system with additional AVB networkable audio interfaces

Another extremely cool use of the 624's Ethernet connection is the ability to link more MOTU AVB-equipped audio interfaces to it. You can do this in one of two ways: directly via a simple Ethernet cable or as part of an audio network via one or more MOTU AVB Switches. If you go with just a single Ethernet cable, you can easily link a second 624 or other AVB-ready device directly to your first one. With MOTU AVB Switches, you can create an audio network of up to five units, potentially linking hundreds of channels of I/O across multiple rooms. And since it's all over standard Cat 5e Ethernet cable, latency or cable runs aren't any kind of issue.

High end audio capability in a small package

This device is far more capable than it's small size implies. There are tones of routing and options that you can access from a browser or mobile device so you rarely have to mess with the interface itself. It has AVB capability which essentially means it can connect with other AVB devices via an ethernet cable. This is a very cool feature.

The interface has low latency, great mic pres, and works with ASIO and Apple's CoreAudio.

This device is a little more advanced than many Audio Interfaces so you'll probably need to spend some time getting used to it.

Over all, it does all that I need it to do and FAR more.

MOTU 624

I upgrade from an MBox Mini which served me well enough to get releases out on beatport. Why did i upgrade? I wanted 32x88.2 bit/sam. I also needed to route 32 tracks from Maschine into Ableton. The onboard DSP is brutally powerful. I'm operating at 1.5ms RTL at 16x44.1 which is way faster than the 12ms I'm used to. Once I get these current projects out of the way will begin doing 32x88.2 content. Running both DAWs simultaneously with multiple instances of Massive, various Abbey Road Plugins on a 4 year old 3rd gen i7. No pops or glitches. USB3 performs great. If you have a mac you get even more features but even on my windows 10 machine I LOVE IT. My only beef is the atrociously documented OSC support, I eventually got it working but was not simple. The routing Matrix can be confusing but if you come from a live sound background you can figure it out. HURRAY YouTube ;) Wish it came with a proper half rack blank so i could mount this sucker properly in my rack, but that's minor quibble. The performance is killer. Headphone out is kind of weak, but I'm using audio technica r70x which are 600ohm (?). Thanks to AVB I have plenty of expansion opportunities for the future.

Still getting around on it

I won't give it 5 stars because it is not Thunderbolt 3, but works as Thunderbolt 2 with an adapter on a Windows 10 (Pro, 64 bit) machine.

I've had a couple of glitches, but I seem to have figured out what caused it and can prevent it from happening again. So far it plays well with others ;)

This is a deep interface with a ton of options- a LOT of I/O options. Seriously, the patchbay is fantastic. I haven't tried the mic preamps yet, so I can't comment on them.

I have been loyal to MOTU above any other brand because of their amazing, rock solid drivers for Windows AND Mac (I use both OS's), and the fact that they continue to update drivers for their older (legacy) interfaces. I'll bet you can't name another company that does that- other companies would rather force you to buy new hardware.

Great Features and Sound Quality

Needed a new Audio Interface that had a fast connection (Thunderbolt) and multiple Line Inputs to complement my 4-Ch RME preamp. This works great. I am using an older Mac Mini and have no lag and great audio quality. The interface runs off the browser (Safari) and is quite useful once you get the hang of configuring the mixer to match your inputs. I am recording into Reaper and had no setup issues between the 624 and Reaper.

I am only using the Motu 624 as a digital interface (with it's really nice A/D converters), but it has the ability to be a mobile mixer with Wi-Fi potential when connected to a wireless router.

Very happy with the purchase.

Awesome Sound, Stable Win10 ASIO

The MOTU 624 sounds great to me. The preamps and AD/DA are transparent and detailed.

I'm using it with a Windows 10 laptop. The MOTU ASIO Driver is perfectly stable with the USB 3.0 interface port. I'm using Steinberg Cubase 8 as my DAW sequencer. The two work together well but have some unexpected, quirky behavior in routing that may need some trouble shooting. This added to my slow initial progress.

I have not tested any of the advanced features or the Thunderbolt connection yet so I cannot comment on the many ways to use the MOTU 624.

I subtracted one-half point since the routing grid is complicated and I think MOTU should do more to lessen the steep learning curve.

I can highly recommend this unit but this is limited by my meager experience so far.
