Stylish 12-string Hardtail with HS Pickups

The Danelectro 59X12 — 12-string version of the groundbreaking 59XT — serves up a decadent 12-string tonal buffet and a hearty spoonful of that classic Dano Shorthorn style. The 59X12’s vintage single-coil in the neck and coil-split Lipstick humbucker in the bridge are your ticket to a world of folksy cleans and jangly pop nostalgia, with a broad palette of blitzed-out rock and psychedelic textures just waiting to be discovered. The 59X12’s resonant hardwood body and snappy maple neck operate in perfect harmony, with a pau ferro fingerboard adding to the guitar’s overall richness and sustain. An adjustable hardtail bridge gives this affordable 12-string rock-solid intonation and sustain. Rounding out this stylish instrument is a set of die-cast chrome knobs and complementary chrome hardware.

Dano Shorthorn style

The iconic Shorthorn design makes a triumphant return in the Danelectro 59X12 12-string electric guitar. Tapping the hardwood/plywood body reveals a rich resonance, unplugged or onstage, which is why you could see earlier iterations of this guitar in the hands of notable axemen Syd Barrett and Jimmy Page.

Versatile HS pickups

The 59X12 isn't your grandfather's Dano. This retro reimagining of the classic 59 is a thoroughbred rock stallion, with a vintage single-coil in the neck position and a full-range Lipstick humbucker at the bridge. The angled pickup design is effective at balancing notes across all 12 strings, giving bridge-position high octaves a bit more warmth and neck-position low octaves a touch more clarity. What surprised us at Sweetwater is how well the humbucker cleans up, especially in the split configuration. Engaging the push-pull coil split unearths more of the iconic jangle and bite that 12-string Danelectros are best known for.

Adjustable hardtail bridge

Intonation is a critical part of the 12-string recipe. That’s why your 59X12 comes loaded with an adjustable hardtail bridge for rock-solid stability between octaves. Paired with its other assets, there’s no question: the Danelectro 59X12 12-string from Sweetwater is a lot of guitar for not a lot of dough.

Danelectro 59X12 Features:

  • A stylish 12-string electric guitar with split HS pickups
  • Celebrated Dano design: Shorthorn body, Coke bottle headstock, and Lipstick pickup covers
  • Taps into folksy cleans and classic pop jangle, and opens up into blitzed-out rock and psychedelic tones
  • Vintage single-coil neck pickup and Lipstick humbucking bridge pickup with push-pull coil split
  • Adjustable hardtail bridge for rock-solid intonation

Reviews

Superfine 12 string
The build quality set up, tone and ease to play makes this instrument a joy to own. The one thing I did do was that I down tuned it a whole step, then took most of the relief out of the neck and fine tuned the intonation. I can always capo up to the second fret if I want to
go back into standard tuning. Down tuning makes it easier to play and is easier on the instrument plus it really opens up the timbre. In the next few months, when I finally change out the strings, I will polish the frets to a nice mirror finish. That is all this instrument really needs. I am very happy with the purchase.
The Byrds are not safe...
After a couple month wait in this crazy time, I finally received my 59x12. David kept me up to date on the progress over that time -- thanks.

Now to the review:

This thing is awesome. Arrived tuned (except for the regular G string, hey one out of 12 ain't bad). I've been experimenting with the different pickup combinations and oddly the best sounds to my ear are the neck p90 alone and the split bridge lipstick (alone). With the humbucker engaged fully you do get a lot of signal to the amp and so it's not a lot of effort to get the Marshall clean channel to OD.

Immediately started playing the Byrds of course, then some beatles, of course the finger style part of Stairway, and Bowie. The overall quality is excellent. The finish was flawless and there wasn't a scratch or pock anywhere. The regular G string seems to get a little out of tune quick although the rest of the tuning stays spot on. Bought a red strap to go along with the pickguard which completes the look :-)

Extremely easy to play although I have to admit, 12 strings on that small neck took a little bit to get used to, it really plays like a 6 string in the left hand. (as a comparison my Taylor GA-12 has a very wide neck which is fine for open chords but gets cumbersome over a long set).

While I was waiting I watched several people demo this guitar (including RJ's video that is on the page). Everyone is ecstatic when the pick this up for this price. I watched the hilarious Andertons danelectro review which if you listen closely they fell in love with the Vintage 12 string, and they never tried this one with the P90 on it. I think they would have gone nuts.

I added the unboxing video (please forgive my playing) along with a couple of photos. Sweetwater delivers again. You will enjoy this guitar.
Music background: Not professional musician, but have played for years and love guitars both acoustic and electric.
Killer guitar. Not just great for the price, but great across the board!
Having always wanted a 12 string electric but not hanging a ton of $$ to spend on a utility type instrument, I decided to go with this new line of Danelectro 12's. I'm glad I did! This thing feels like a guitar that costs at least double the price. It feels great right out of the box. I love the pickup configuration. The double Lipstick humbucker that can also be cool tapped to sound like a single coil alongside the p90ish neck pickup make this one incredibly versatile. So many voices! I highly recommend this guitar if you are looking to add a little bit of jangle to your life.
Music background: Semi-Pro
Fantastic Guitar
As others have stated, it is a great guitar. My salesman, Andy, said it was a great choice and he was correct. It is light and easy to play. It states in tune very well which can sometimes be an issue for 12 strings if any type. The pickup combinations, and lipstick split options, make this a super versatile guitar. It will cover the Byrds and sings like Tangerine, Starship Trooper, and Hotel California with ease. I have now used it twice (once the day after receiving it) for modern P&W at church also. It works great for ambient sounds or jangly Rhythm. Just roll the tone back a hair if you want a little less jangle. Danelectro has alway been a lot of guitar for the money. This is no exception. And I love the Vintage White. It's beautiful.
amazing for price
Much better product than the Reverend Airwave at half the cost. Better sounding to my ears. Decided to upgrade to Danelectro 66-12 their top of the line 12-String
