The 1029 offers up to 20dB of makeup gain, and its Dry/Wet knob makes dialing in parallel compression incredibly easy. Additionally, it includes comprehensive 6-segment LED metering and seamless true-bypass relay switching. Housed in a compact half-rack chassis, the AEA 1029 tames vocals, smashes drum overheads, and massages program material with equal finesse.

The AEA 1029 brandishes a proprietary discrete op-amp design by legendary gear guru Fred Forssell incorporating two THAT 4305 VCA chips, driven by a single RMS detector fed by the unit’s summed input signals. This design gives you a versatile compressor with a clear, balanced sound, ideal for containing overly dynamic vocals or slamming drum overheads. Whether you use it for recording or mixing, the 1029 will elevate any sound that you run through it.
Ranges from subtle to extreme
Despite its straightforward control set, the AEA 1029 performed exceptionally well in every application we tested at Sweetwater. Its 3-position Sensing Time knob, featuring Peak Fast, Slow, and RMS settings, allows you to either crush transient material or let the peaks shine through. The variable Ratio knob ranges from 1:1 to Limit, enabling you to achieve anything from subtle polishing to extreme brickwall-like dynamics control. No matter how you use it, the 1029 proves to be a valuable addition to your studio tool kit.
