Maximum Pitch Pliability at Your Feet

The Whammy has reigned as the premier pitch-shifting pedal for more than three decades, famously wielded by such guitarists as Jonny Greenwood and Ed O'Brien of Radiohead, Matt Bellamy of Muse, Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave, David Gilmour of Pink Floyd, and Jack White of the White Stripes, to name a few. The DigiTech Whammy 5 pedal enables you to conjure the same cavernous dive-bombs, single-note pitch bends, ear-grabbing harmonies, and sweet-sounding detune effects made famous by its predecessors, while also giving you polyphonic pitch shifting for bending entire chords and a MIDI input for seamless control via external hardware. The Whammy 5 retains the classic Whammy interface, including the familiar expression treadle, along with additional pitch-bend settings derived from DigiTech's acclaimed Whammy DT pedal. You also get a dedicated footswitch that enables you to toggle the pedal's effects on and off in real-time. With its iconic blend of pitch-shifting power and sonic versatility, the Whammy 5 isn't just an effects pedal; it's the key to bending musical reality itself.

Manipulate single notes to full chords

Guitarists at Sweetwater have used the DigiTech Whammy pedal since its 1989 introduction to execute subterranean dive-bombs, stunning pitch bends, lightning-fast harmony shifts, and lush detuning, both onstage and in the studio. The Whammy 5 delivers all these classic effects with maximum aplomb. Moreover, the Classic/Chords switch allows you to toggle between the original Whammy algorithm, which is ideal for single notes and replicating the distinctive warble of the classic pedal, and the modern Whammy DT algorithm, unlocking polyphonic pitch shifting, which is best suited to bending full chords.

Iconic expression for creative guitarists

The DigiTech Whammy 5 boasts the classic Whammy control set, including the iconic expression treadle, which you use to control the amount of pitch bending for your Whammy, Harmony, or Detune effects in real time. Selecting your desired effect is a breeze with the intuitive single-knob interface. Moreover, you get a dedicated footswitch that turns the Whammy, Harmony, or Detune on and off with a tap of your toe for spellbinding live performances. Finally, vivid LEDs give you straightforward, at-a-glance confirmation of your settings.

Full MIDI control for seamless pitch shifts

The Whammy 5 features a dedicated MIDI input, allowing it to receive and respond to incoming MIDI data. With MIDI program change messages, you can instantly select either a Whammy or Drop Tune effect and toggle each between active and bypassed states. In addition, MIDI CC messages give you real‑time control over the Whammy’s expression treadle position for precise, dynamic performances.

Reviews

Dream Machine
This thing works exactly as it's supposed to. The new Chords function is beautiful and entirely the reason I wanted it. The Classic function is beautifully what an original Whammy should be. Super easy to use and packed with Whammy and Harmonizing effects that will definitely satisfy all your pitch bending desires. I seriously love this thing. Practice a bit with your foot and you can play whole licks and melody lines while hanging on a single note on the guitar. Fantastic!

Review from a backing track/vocalist perspective
This thing is remarkable! Our duo(Now And Zen) is a husband/wife duo with a song list of over 150 multitracked songs. I recently had anterior and posterior neck fusion that has affected my upper head voice and I needed an automated way to temporarily lower nearly half of our repertoire.

By using midi commands I can automatically change the key without having to re-load each song into my DAW! Although the main function might be great for those guitar shredders, it's really valuable to Change song keys automatically by creating midi control changes or even by setting the pedal manually if needed until I get my upper range back.
Music background: Vocalist and drummer.
Digitech Whammy Pedal
I love my whammy pedal my other one was close to 15 years old before it bit the dust - Sweetwater and Dave Brow saved the day for me and got it in my hands before our gig - Thank God! Sweetwater Rocks
Music background: Rock - Modern Hard Rock - Lead Guitar
So far five star
I like it, I'm very happy as long as it holds up.
A lot of fun
I really enjoy this pedal. I mainly use it with my ebow, but I also have an earthquaker organizer right before it so I'll use them both at the same time for a big ol' wall of layers. The classic mode is nice with the more glitchy aspect when playing chords, I know that sounds odd but it's up my alley. Sweetwater was great as always. I highly recommend this pedal.
