A Seriously Comfortable Brass Slide

The Joey Landreth Signature Rock Slide is a stretched-out version of the company’s original small brass slide. Benefit from full string coverage thanks to this slide’s extended length, while its tapered interior ensures a snug feel everywhere on your finger. Experience extra weight and sustain by virtue of its super-thick walls. A cutaway at the second knuckle preserves finger bendability and avoids pinching, while a flat finger rest yields added stability. The guitarists at Sweetwater appreciate the comfort and playability of this slide.

The Bros. Landreth — alternative country folk-rockers

The Juno Award–winning band the Bros. Landreth was formed in 2013 by Joey Landreth (guitar/vocals) and David Landreth (bass/vocals). The brothers were later joined by Ariel Posen (guitar) and Ryan Voth (drums). These Canadian alternative country folk rockers deliver sweet 4-part vocal harmonies, acoustic, Dobro, and straight-up rock with a hint of country. Their debut album, Let It Lie, has received universal acclaim. The group has nurtured a sizable following and continues to tour nationally.

Reviews

Just the slide I was looking for
I'm a longtime guitarist, but relatively new to slide. This aged brass Joey Landreth Rock Slide is just what I was looking for. If you have fat fingers it may be too tight for you, but it fits perfectly on my pinky and slides off easily for removal. It has a beveled end on the bottom so that you can bend your finger at the second knuckle for greater freedom of movement, yet it's long enough to cover all six strings if playing in open tunings. I'm usually in standard tuning, but like the option of accommodating those swampy sounding open tunings with all six strings ringing as well.

The tapered interior leaves the fingertip end with thicker walls allowing for a nice thick sound on single notes and double stops if you play those toward the end of slide, which would be the more natural placement. I find I have much greater control with a slide that fits over the pinky like a glove, as this one does, rather than one that's more like a wide tube. Of course, with a fairly snug fit, your finger will sweat a little, but for me this is a small price to pay for a slide that really works and allows me to sound better.

Joey Landreth Slide
Best slide I've played. The tapered interior is great and the knuckle cut out is awesome.
excellent but not for me...
I have a green Diamond glass slide and an old dunlop $5 brass one I have used for years. THey are a bit big and slop around my pinky some, so I thought I'd try some new stuff and got the Landreth sig, and the larger version of the same, and the Posner sig. I am liking the posner not because it is better, but because I'm sloppy with behind-the-slide muting and the ball tip lits me do single string stuff with single string finger mutes if I don't want stuff ringing all over. That said, there is nothing wrong with the Landreth, just my playing is better suited for the Posner.

What I like: the brass is really thick, at least three times as thick as my old Dunlop, and it is small but still long in that it can cover all six strings if you take a little care. it has a nice weighty feel and goes snug on my pinky. I'm an official convert to this size! The side groove, which lets you locate your ring finger for mutes, seemed to be placed a little off for me. I was hoping this would help me clean up my barre muting, but it is no help at all since it sits above where my ring finger goes when I am muting behind the slide. It sounds really nice as far as sustain, with the ringing quality Brass is noted for. I got this for electric so have not tried it on my Dobro-esque acoustic but it would take some top end string noise compared to glass. I generally like the glassy gnarliness that glass brings to acoustic stuff, so I will probably stay with that. That glassy vibrato sustain does not translate well to electric though and the brass really cleans up my slide sound on there.

great quality, ok value (kinda pricey), excellent quality, but not quite right for me. I won;t mark it down for not being my fit, but did knock off half a star for the mis-aligned finger groove.
Music background: half a century playing guitar like my life depended on it.
