Perk Up Your Mixes with an Audio Exciter

Exciters and enhancers can breathe life into your tracks, enhancing clarity to help a lead cut through a mix or restoring low-end fullness that may have gotten lost in translation. Looking for your mix desk’s secret weapon? Sweetwater carries exciters that increase perceived loudness and enhance harmonic richness, so your work sounds bigger and fuller.

Exciters with Onboard Dynamics Processing

Exciters and enhancers sweeten your audio in ways traditional EQ and compression can’t, and they’re generally fast to dial in as well. Many audio exciters include built-in limiters, gates, and compressors, so you can enhance harmonic detail while controlling your dynamic range. This gives you a simple way to bring the subtleties in your audio to the surface while managing signal dynamics. For more targeted attack shaping, such as a snare that needs a punchier pop, a transient designer can get you there quicker.

How Many Exciter Channels Do I Need?

If you’re primarily recording or mixing single tracks at a time, a single-channel exciter or enhancer will serve you just fine. For greater flexibility in your studio or mix booth, a two-channel exciter with linked stereo operation processes stereo signals, such as drums and keyboards, simultaneously.

Is Using an Exciter “Cheating”?

Absolutely not. Exciters and enhancers add harmonic content in ways traditional processing can’t, and you’ve likely heard them on more pro-level recordings and large-format stages than you realize. Used with a light touch, a harmonic enhancer can add sparkle to a mix or instrument track without thinning out your tone.

Looking for Audio Exciters and Tone Sweeteners? Sweetwater Has You Covered

Not sure which exciter, saturator, or stereo width enhancer is right for your mix? Give your Sales Engineers a call. They have hands-on experience with all kinds of audio processing equipment and are happy to help.
