This Old-time Tenor Really Sings

Tenor guitars are making a comeback, and if you're interested in adding the timeless voice of one of these guitars to your music, then Sweetwater has the acoustic instrument for you. The Ibanez PFT2 4-string tenor guitar combines a popular vintage tuning with a comfortable yet expressive mini dreadnought body made from time-tested tonewoods. With its sapele back and sides and a spruce top, the PFT2 gives you a rich warmth that’s a perfect complement to the airiness of its tenor timbre. Add an elegant rosette and a bone nut with matching compensated saddle, and the PFT2 is sure to please.

Tenor tuning for folk, jazz, country, and other playing styles

By far, the most striking thing about the Ibanez PFT2 acoustic guitar is its tenor setup. Introduced in the 1920s as a way to provide unique chord voicings to complement more common instruments such as standard guitars, the tenor guitar offers the same C, G, D, A fifths tuning that you’d find on a viola, a mandola, or a tenor banjo. This tuning allows the PFT2 to fill out rhythm parts and take the lead without taking up too much sonic space — it’s also a wonderful choice for soloists!

A singer/songwriter’s perfect tonewood pairing

Crafted with a sapele back and sides, this tenor’s body produces a tone very similar to that of mahogany. The result is very warm and rich, providing the perfect foundation for singer/songwriters needing a guitar with both inspiring projection and a well-rounded tonal presence. Thanks to a spruce top, you’ll immediately notice how this tenor naturally resonates with vivid clarity. The combination of these two tonewoods allows the bright, trebly nature of this tenor to shine with tremendous stature.

Mini dreadnought body style provides ample acoustic projection

The dreadnought body shape has been one of the most popular acoustic guitar body styles ever since it hit the guitar-playing world. Why? Because back in the day, guitarists had to relay solely on the natural projection of their instruments, and the dreadnought body style provided plenty of sound-slinging power. The PFT2’s mini dreadnought body balances the size of the instrument with plenty of punch and projection. The result is a comfortable instrument that’s ideal onstage or in the studio.

Ibanez PFT2 Tenor Acoustic Guitar Features:

  • A traditional tenor acoustic guitar that anyone can afford
  • C, G, D, A fifths tuning provides movable chords and unique voicings that complement other instruments
  • Mini dreadnought body offers plenty of natural acoustic projection
  • A perfect instrument for rhythm, lead, and solo playing across a wide range of musical styles
  • Sapele body topped with spruce provides a delightfully warm and complex voice
  • Classy touches include white binding, an elegant 2-ring rosette, and real bone nut/compensated saddle

Great guitar, but a few issues…..

I've been wanting one of these for a while and finally pulled the trigger last week. First, let me say that I'm REALLY pleased with this Ibanez—it plays well and sounds bright. In fact it sounds better than a six string I had.
The problems had to do with shipping. My salesman took my order over the phone and somehow placed the order with an old address I've not lived at going on 4 years. I didn't realize this until a text notification told me it was delivered—to my old address in another city. I drove the 35 miles over there to get it —that was the only option I had.
Upon unboxing the guitar I discovered corrosion on the two low strings. This is the first big hiccup I've had with Sweetwater in a half dozen or so purchases, but it's enough to make me take a long pause before ordering another instrument or equipment from them.

Beautiful guitar

This is a well made guitar. Very affordable price point. It didn't fit my needs, but that is no reflection on the instrument.

Impressive tenor guitar for little money

I have owned a tenor banjo for many years and thought it would be fun to try tenor guitar. Hey, for the money, it's not a huge risk, right? I must say, I am very impressed with the Ibanez PFT2. It has a nice tone, and it's surprisingly loud for a small guitar. I've had this guitar for almost a year now, and have thought about upgrading. but I don't think a guitar costing 4 times as much would sound that much better. Anyway, I would highly recommend this guitar for someone getting into a tenor. It's so easy to play, I'm surprised more people don't take it up.

Wow!!!! Awesome Tenor Guitar

I play acoustic guitar and I have a Seagull, Washburn, Takamine, Larrivee, and a few others. I have played for over 20 years in bands and solo. So take my word for it, the Ibanez PFT2 tenor guitar sounds so good and loud! And for the size it is really unbelievable. It is roughly the same size as the Little Martin that Ed Sheeran plays. I originally was going to buy one of those but I didn't and just got the case. The PFT2 fits perfectly in the Gator case for the Little Martin. The body wood is very thick and heavy like an old Guild acoustic. The neck is short and skinny obviously but it does have an adjustable truss rod. Granted it is made in China but for the price the quality is really good. And the great thing is that there are so many different tunings you can use on it. Plus the sound hole is big enough to take an acoustic pickup. I promise you will love this little thing.
