Gibson’s Les Paul Studio: Refreshed and Better Than Ever

The Gibson Les Paul Studio packs classic tone and premium playability into a straightforward axe built to appeal to no-nonsense musicians craving a genuine Les Paul experience. The Les Paul Studio flaunts a maple-capped mahogany body, which is chambered for weight relief and given an eye-grabbing nitro lacquer finish. This solidbody electric guitar’s mahogany neck brandishes Gibson’s crowd-pleasing SlimTaper neck profile and traditional heel for maximum comfort and a slick-playing Indian rosewood fingerboard, which is now bound for a smoother feel and added visual appeal. A set of Burstbucker Pro pickups provides you with a gamut of PAF-flavored tones, while push-pull volume knobs give you access to coil-split single-coil textures. You also get head-turning acrylic trapezoid fingerboard inlays, a “Les Paul Model” headstock overlay, and a Gibson logo headstock inlay for authentic Les Paul aesthetics. The Gibson Les Paul Studio is truly better than ever, and we’re confident that discerning players searching for a real-deal Gibson at an accessible price point will find it impossible to pass up.

Contains bona fide Les Paul DNA

Although the Les Paul Studio was designed as a stripped-down, no-frills version of the Les Paul, there’s no mistaking this solidbody electric guitar for anything but a genuine Gibson Les Paul. This instrument boasts all the essential Les Paul features, such as a mahogany body, a maple top, a glued-in set neck, and Gibson USA humbuckers — everything that makes a Gibson Les Paul a Gibson Les Paul. Moreover, today’s Les Paul Studio also includes 1-ply fingerboard binding and coil-split Burstbucker Pro pickups, easily making it the most feature-laden version of the Studio ever. At this price point — and with these features — it enables players of all stripes to get their hands on an authentic Gibson Les Paul.

Burstbucker Pro: a modern spin on classic PAF sonics

Gibson’s Burstbucker pickups rest firmly in Sweetwater’s pickup pantheon as a top-tier PAF, but what if you’re after more power than a vintage-style humbucker can provide? Enter the Burstbucker Pro, a fatter, more powerful spin on time-tested PAF sonics. Burstbucker Pro pickups deliver all the classic characteristics of a top-notch PAF — exceptional clarity, a remarkably dynamic feel, and ample vintage-accurate warmth — but swaps out the lower-output Alnico II magnets for Alnico V. This results in a more aggressive attack and enhanced low-end response. Moreover, Burstbucker Pro pickups feature wax potting to cut down on hum and squeal. For the player seeking a vintage-style PAF that’s not afraid to venture into higher-gain territory, you’d be hard-pressed to beat Gibson’s Burstbucker Pro humbuckers.

Your conduit to effortless playability

Players who find vintage Les Pauls heavy and unwieldy (but who love them anyway) will be pleasantly surprised when they pick up the Gibson Les Paul Studio. To start, its Ultra-Modern weight-relieved construction shaves down the guitar’s total weight without affecting the natural acoustic tone of its maple-over-mahogany body. Its SlimTaper neck profile and traditional heel provide outstanding hand-cradling comfort. Finally, the Les Paul Studio’s bound Indian rosewood fingerboard ensures a smooth feel that’s guaranteed to yield hours upon hours of inspired playing. Simply put, the Les Paul Studio was tailor-made for marathon-length gigs; it’s a Les Paul you can play for as long as you want without repeated trips to the chiropractor.

Reviews

Gibson Les Paul Blueberry Burst Guitar
I absolutely LOVE my new Gibson Les Paul guitar. It was everything I had expected it to be, and then some.
I certainly appreciate the assistance & professionalism that Max Moseley provided me answers to my questions regarding the instrument, pricing, & shipping options!! I've already reciprocated with another purchase of a drum for one of my grandsons, and I've got him locked in on speed dial for any future purchases I may have. I've already got my eyes on yet another guitar I'm considering , and will certainly be continuing my inquiries through Max!!
In the attached photo, it's the blue one!
I would strongly recommend anyone with questions regarding musical equipment to contact Max Moseley with SWEETWATER! Hit SWEETWATER.com! You'll be glad you did!

My left handed Gibson Les Paul BLUEBERRY BURST

Max,

I absolutely LOVE my new guitar!!! It's everything I was anticipating, and then some!!

I've got my eye on yet another that I'll be calling out to you soon to see if you can provide a little wiggle for me again!

Thanks for all your help and details when buying the BLUEBERRY! I'm looking forward to visiting about my other eye candy as well!

Also, I've got a grandson that's a beginner drummer that I need help on setting him up with a beginner set and he loves the color orange if you can be hunting that down for me. That's a quick turn around need if you can find me something affordable.

Music background: Long term musician.
BEWARE: BACKWARDS Potentiometers!

This review applies to the LEFT-handed version of this item ONLY.

Firstly, this is an amazing instrument, it looks absolutely gorgeous, it plays wonderfully and it sounds superb.

However, for me, the entire experience became severely tainted by the discovery that the potentiometers on the instrument rotate backwards, from a left-handed perspective. To illustrate this, imagine an arrow on top of your volume knob. This arrow should point in the direction of the fretboard, meaning the direction of travel of the rotation of the knob itself is toward the neck, this is the correct configuration for volume and tone knobs. On a left-handed instrument, this means the rotation of the potentiometer in question would be counter-clockwise for increase and clockwise for decrease. This is the opposite of the knob-rotation on a standard right-handed guitar, and it is necessary to achieve the aforementioned rotation-in-the-direction-of-the-fretboard.

Some might say: "Ok, so just reverse the wiring and it'll be fine". No, without getting into detail about linear and logarithmic (tapered) potentiometers, reversing wiring essentially transforms the potentiometer into an ON/OFF switch, removing any chance of a gradual 'swell' in volume, which is crucial in most situations.

GIBSON has cut corners horribly with regard to their lefty guitars. It is much like holding a right-handed guitar upside down, try it and you'll find out the knobs rotate 'backwards', then you'll know what I mean. Gibson should be using REVERSE-TAPERED potentiometers in ALL their LEFT-HANDED instruments, period. I cannot describe what a colossal let-down it was to discover this abhorrent, cost-cutting measure. Gibson, the STANDARD for QUALITY American guitars (supposedly), SHOULD... be BETTER! Period.

From rockers to jazz cats, there are generations of guitarists right here at Sweetwater who swear by Gibson guitars. Not only do they make many of the most iconic solidbody electric guitars of all time - the Les Paul, the SG, the Flying V - but they also produce classic hollowbody and semi-hollowbody models and some of the most iconic acoustic guitars on the planet. We play them all! Our close relationship with Gibson often allows us to stock exclusive models and rare finds, and we're always happy to turn players and collectors on to the gems in the Sweetwater Guitar Gallery. We also have access to all the latest Gibson hardware, and the Sweetwater Guitar Repair Shop has upgraded countless guitars with their top-of-the-line humbuckers, classic P-90s, and more.
