Classic Dano Sound and Feel

Its iconic jangle is unmistakable. Sporting the classic Shorthorn semi-hollowbody design and a pair of vintage Lipstick pickups, the Danelectro Stock '59 captures the look, feel, and tone of the early days of rock. The Stock '59 is constructed with a lightweight hardboard/plywood center-block body that delivers the jangly signature "Dano" sound with enhanced sustain. In addition, a maple neck with pau ferro fingerboard offers smooth playability, while the traditional bridge with wood swivel saddle and aluminum nut play their part in flawlessly re-creating the "Dano" sound heard on countless hit records. The Danelectro Stock '59. You simply must experience it for yourself.

That signature jangle

The two single-coil Lipstick pickups in the Stock '59 have a one-of-a-kind tone that captured the imagination of so many guitarists over the last six decades. With their coils wrapped around an Alnico VI magnet and then wrapped in tape, these pickups harken back to the vintage tone of rock's earliest days. The result is a sound that truly stands alone — jangly, with a punchy midrange and a treble kick. And with a 3-way pickup selector plus volume and tone controls for each pickup, you'll have a lot of options for dialing in your ideal tone for any track.

An iconic American brand

Founded in 1947, Danelectro produced guitar amps throughout the 1940s before expanding into guitars in the '50s. With their beloved quirky hollowbody designs, hardboard/plywood construction, and Lipstick pickups, the iconic Danelectro designs are instantly recognizable. Among other innovations, Danelectro introduced the baritone guitar in 1956, and the electric sitar in 1967. From guitar gods Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck to Who bassist John Entwhistle (check out the bass solo on "My Generation") to country superstar Glen Campbell, Tom Petty lead guitarist Mike Campbell, and the ever-eclectic Wilco guitarist and solo artist Nels Cline, Danos have become staples in the guitar and bass arsenals of top artists in all genres. Now Danelectro is back again and better than ever; Sweetwater is proud to offer you this formidable lineup of iconic vintage-inspired instruments.

Reviews

Awesome Sauce
This guitar is hard to put down, it is really fun to play, buttery low action and sounds so unique, like nothing else. it's inspiring.

Of course I immediately tuned it to DADGAD where it really shines, but standard tuning sounds awesome too.

One word of caution; within a day of receiving this guitar I already had my sights on another. Thinking the '67 in Aqua this time. So they are very habit forming (and look great hanging on the walls of your studio) :)
Music background: 50+ years playing guitar
Mano Dano
This thing is just a blast to play. It's so simple and basic but it can be really fierce. Mine came set up perfect for me. I usually change the strings right away but these are great...I have Fenders and Gibsons and I think I know my way around the gig bag...but I dare say this Dano is smooth as silk.
Great Guitar Exactly What I Expected!
As always quality products and quality service! The setup right out of the box was great! Kurt, as always thanks for the great support and service!
guitar .
If yer a handyman , do you have ONE screwdriver ? Of course not . Guitars are tools and I got over gear lust many years ago and have been in vintage rooms that looked like guitar petting-zoo-museums .

Comfortable to handle and wear . In fact , I have really strong average sized hands , it's a tad thin in the neck , but the scale length is nice at 25" , placing it nicely between most fender and Gibson . Profile is pretty flat , and being a nylon/classical player -- I get nostalgic for . The semi-hollow body is somewhat similar to a casino -- which I also like the sound of .

The things that make it unique in tone:
1) metal nut
2) one-of-kind pickups
3) wood bridge
3.1) you

Expect a great setup from sweetwater . Really nice folks , thanks .

Made in SOUTH KOREA -- which I have found to have very prideful craftsmanship in the value-oriented market . A good buy .

Oh , and it's a one piece neck , not like some others that are 2-pieces ... you know ...

I would like to see a few neck shape options and a $500-ish mega accurate vintage reissue , with super original materials and craftsmanship (think Victoria amps) made in the USA if possible .

Yes , I will own even the pastel colored ones . And you will be able to sell it for the same price plus inflation in 10 years when the girl you want attention from sees you playing it, MARRIES YOU, then hates the attention you get ;-)
