A Contemporary Single-cut Chock-full of Tone

The Sire Larry Carlton I5 reimagines the classic single-cut design with modern versatility and the high standards expected from one of music’s most accomplished studio guitarists. It starts with a lightweight, slab-style swamp ash body, which is highly resonant and built for comfort during extended playing sessions. Sweetwater’s guitarists agree: the combination of a C-shaped maple neck and Sire’s Edgeless fretboard treatment delivers a smooth, seamless feel across all 22 medium-jumbo frets. Locking tuners and a bone nut ensure solid tuning stability and precise intonation. With multiple electronics and bridge configurations available, there’s a Larry Carlton I5 to match your tone and performance needs — all in a gig-ready package.

Built for superior playability

When it comes to performance-focused instruments, the Larry Carlton I5H has you covered. To start, the ebony fingerboard is adorned with medium-jumbo frets for excellent string control, not to mention the hand-cradling feeling of Sire's rolled and smoothed Edgeless neck edge treatment. The I5H comes equipped with high-quality locking tuners, ensuring stable tuning and reducing string slippage. A high-density bone nut eliminates string binding issues, giving you superior tone and playability. Lastly, a string-through body with a Tune-o-matic bridge increases resonance and ensures your I5H is ready for any playing situation.

Alnico-driven pickups deliver vintage output and clarity

The I5H Vintage-2 humbucking pickup set marks a standout upgrade from previous generations of Sire’s humbucking pickups. Featuring Alnico II magnets and a lower output, these vintage-inspired pickups deliver rich picking dynamics and an open, balanced tone that's ripe for everything from thick, chugging riffs to fiery leads. Use of the tone control delivers additional warmth to clean passages or your favorite blues grooves. With its tonal capabilities, the I5H effortlessly adapts to any musical style.

Sire Larry Carlton I5H Features:

  • Versatile single-cut-style guitar reimagined by legendary guitarist Larry Carlton
  • Modified, lightweight swamp ash body offers uncompromising tone and fatigue reduction during longer playing sessions
  • C-shape roasted maple neck with medium-jumbo frets and ebony fingerboard facilitates comfortable and speedy playing performance
  • Edgeless rolled fingerboard feels like a natural, broken-in neck
  • LC Vintage-2 pickups deliver an array of humbucking sounds
  • Locking tuners and Tune-o-matic bridge solidify your tuning accuracy
  • Solid bone nut reinforces proper string vibrational transfer

Reviews

Great guitar!
I got one of the first 2 at Sweetwater. I'm loving this guitar! I had been looking for a guitar with an unbound rolled edge ebony fingerboard when I saw this. I couldn't resist! The neck is wonderful; it is very comfortable to play. The center of gravity on this guitar makes using the entire fingerboard feel natural, standing, sitting or kicked-back. I can play with my eyes closed and hit the notes I want :-)

It wasn't perfect but easy to make that way. There were a couple of high frets (not unexpected). I fixed those and gave then a good polish. Put a set of NYXL 9.5's on it, plays like a dream. I didn't like the way the bridge was flatter than the fingerboard radius. I had a Gotoh 510BN TOM bridge with height adjustable saddles that I put on it. I used M8 to M4 thread adapters for that. It made a notable difference. It is very responsive to touch and bends are clear and smooth.

I'm not crazy about the silver finish but under indirect light the sandblasted grain pops out a bit and looks good. It plays so well I don't care what it looks like!

This is an easily modded guitar. I will mess with the pickups too (because I can :-). I expect them to sound nice wired parallel or split.

So, bottom line is, yes, I recommend it. 5 stars in spite of having to work on it a bit (that's part of the joy really )
