Control Your Volume, Keep Your Tone

Few things are as rewarding to a guitarist as cranking up an amplifier and rocking out. Unfortunately, noise ordinances are a reality. That’s why you need the Dr. Z Reactive Reducer. Boasting three levels of reduction, this top-caliber attenuator not only lowers your output, but it also retains the tactile sensation and dynamic response of red-hot tubes pushed to the brink. Additionally, the Reducer Attenuator features an inductive-coil reactive load tailored to the frequency plot of a guitar speaker, ensuring an interactive experience on par with playing through a real-world cabinet. You’ll appreciate the straightforward simplicity of the Reactive Reducer, as it enables you to dial down your volume or bypass the attenuator with a simple flip of a switch — zero complicated features to get in your way (or mess with your tone!). Optimized for 8-ohm speaker loads, but able to accommodate 4- and 16-ohm configurations, the Z Reactive Reducer enables you to enjoy wide-open tones at neighbor-friendly volumes without sacrificing the tube-fueled feel, response, or character of your favorite guitar amp.

Authentic tube response at any volume

When it comes to guitar amplifiers, their feel is every bit as important as their tone. The Z Reactive Reducer takes this into account, lowering your volume and retaining the tactile, dynamic response of a cranked-up, tube-driven amp pushed to its breaking point. Moreover, the Reactive Reducer houses an inductive coil reactive load with a bell-like curve that mimics the frequency plot of a guitar speaker. It clips at low frequencies, attenuates extremely high frequencies, and passes conducive midrange frequencies. Sweetwater guitarists wholeheartedly approve of this design, which offers an inspiring and interactive playing experience well beyond that of resistive attenuators.

All the tone, none of the hassle

Today’s reactive attenuation options are downright staggering, featuring cutting-edge digital IRs, novel re-amping features, and much more. This is all good; however, sometimes you just want to plug in and quietly rock out with zero complications. That’s where the Dr. Z Reactive Reducer truly shines. Simple and to the point, the Reactive Reducer includes a reactive load and a 3-way toggle for -3dB, -11dB, and -18dB steps of reduction. A simple Bypass switch rounds out this streamlined guitar amp attenuator, enabling you to pass your signal straight through when the situation calls for full-blown, rafter-shaking sound.

Flexible attenuation for real-world applications

Optimized for 8-ohm speaker loads, the Z Reactive Reducer also works with 4- and 16-ohm configurations and handles amps up to 50 watts. That said, the good Dr. Z doesn’t recommend using the attenuator with 2-ohm loads. In all, your bandmates and engineers will appreciate your thoughtfulness, as will your neighbors, family, and roommates, when you add the Reactive Reducer to your rig.

Dr. Z Reactive Reducer Features:

  • 50W guitar amp attenuator and reactive load
  • Lowers your output while retaining the tactile sensation and dynamic response of a cranked-up amp
  • 3-way toggle for -3dB, -11dB, and -18dB steps of reduction
  • Inductive-coil reactive load ensures an interactive experience on par with playing through a real-world speaker cabinet
  • Bypass switch passes your signal straight through when attenuation isn’t needed
  • Optimized for 8-ohm speaker loads; also works with 4- and 16-ohm configurations (not recommended for 2-ohm loads)

Reviews

The only thing you lose is volume
I bought this to allow me to heat the power tubes on my Orange OR-15 without endangering my liberty or marriage playing at home This is so simple, cable the amp to reactive reducer to speaker. I tested initially at 16 ohms. I dimed the master volume, dialed in preamp a the edge of break up, and set it on its highest level of attenuation. Sounds the same as bypass, except not as loud. The amp lost none of its reactivity at all. Play soft for clean, pick harder for scream.
