Second-gen Bobby Shew Signature Trumpet

The YTR-8310ZII Custom Z represents the second generation of Yamaha's acclaimed Bobby Shew signature trumpet. This horn's refined design not only supplies unparalleled richness and depth, but its well-balanced playability will also meet the ever-changing needs of modern players. The YTR-8310ZII's corrosion-resistant monel alloy valves are housed in a 2-piece casing for added weight and muscle, while redesigned piston pads ensure ultra-smooth action. This trumpet's 0.445-inch step bore elicits a focused, brilliant sound; its revamped leadpipe ensures a comfortable, free-blowing feel. You also get a 1-piece side-seam bell with a French bead rim that maximizes this trumpet's resonance and projection. You'll appreciate the superior tone stabilization and heightened upper-register playability supplied by the YTR-8310ZII's extra-long third valve slide stopper screw, and how its gold lacquer finish lends an exquisite warm sheen to every note you play. If you're searching for a lightweight, high-performance horn for jazz and commercial applications, the Yamaha YTR-8310ZII Custom Z will make the ideal addition to your arsenal.

Tailor-made for discriminating players

Serious jazz or lead trumpet players searching for a lightweight horn with lots of flexibility will find much to appreciate in the YTR-8310ZII Custom Z. This trumpet's revamped leadpipe offers a comfortable level of breath resistance along with smooth playability on detailed passages, and its 0.445-inch step bore permits you to create a vibrant, larger-than-life sound with little effort. The YTR-8310ZII's rugged monel alloy valves yield smooth, quick action and excellent resistance to impact damage, moisture, and air leaks, while its 2-piece valve casing adds depth and core to your playing. To top it off, this horn's extra-long third valve slide stopper screw facilitates tone stabilization and upper-register playability that are second to none.

1-piece side-seam bell

Constructed from yellow brass, the Yamaha YTR-8310ZII Custom Z's 1-piece, 5-inch bell contributes greatly to its vibrant tone and cannon-like projection, and its side-seam design dampens vibration for an incredibly open, resonant sound. The YTR-8310ZII also includes a French bead bell rim — a flat-dome rim shape that further bolsters this horn's resonance and projection. The YTR-8310ZII features a gold lacquer finish, which produces a delicate, warm quality. At Sweetwater, we've also found that this trumpet's gold lacquer finish gives it a gleaming, polished look.

Reviews

Love this horn
Been playing for years; started on an Olds Ambassador, then a Getzen Eterna and most recently a YTR-8345RS. All great horns but after I had the chance to play a Z, I knew I had to get one. For me, this horn is lighter, much more nimble, plays better in-tune, and produces a beautiful tone quality that can be tamed for symphonic playing and really sizzle in a big band setting. The French bead on the bell communicates better to the player - you can hear yourself better in an ensemble. After playing silver trumpets, this is the first gold lacquer horn I have had and I have to say I really like the tone quality it produces. It seems to have a lot of upper partials present in its rich, warm sound. All this and Yamaha's amazing manufacturing fit , finish and consistency. Sweetwater was great to work with - good pricing and FAST delivery service. Audition one and see what I'm talking about -

Great Horn!
My new Custom Z Bobby Shew horn is exactly what the doctor ordered. I couldn't be happier with the way the horn plays and sounds. You owe it to yourself to play one.
Great Horn
I'm very impressed how easy and light it is to play. It has a very warm tone that like. I even enjoy the included mouthpiece. Also comes with a beautiful case.

Thanks for the help on this one Jimmy.
yamaha 8310Z trumpet
I will say it is a horn, that you would have to change your whole muscle memory to learn to play. It will not take the air if you are used to putting in the amount of air, that you used for years,, And the lightness lacks in sound quality compared to a heavier horn. Its for a select market of players that play in microphone situations and so forth.
