Taking the Acoustic String to the Next Level

Do you wish the strings on your acoustic guitar lasted longer? A set of D’Addario XT strings seeks to grant your wish. These acoustic guitar strings are made from the company’s wildly popular phosphor bronze alloy and provide the durability of a coated string with the feel of a non-coated string. The secret is D’Addario’s Fusion Twist technology and proprietary extended lifespan treatment that applies their thinnest and most durable coating to each string, which prevents corrosion without interfering with their natural feel. XT strings provide a bold sound and an incredible tuning stability that will last through multiple sweaty gigs. If you want your acoustic to sound better than ever before, then try out D’Addario XT strings from Sweetwater.

The evolution of XT strings

During their lifespan, EXP strings enjoyed a loyal following here at Sweetwater. Now, EXP strings have leveled up to become XT acoustic guitar strings, the next evolution of D’Addario’s world-renowned treated strings. Each string receives a groundbreaking coating for twice the protection. And since the coating is so thin, each string rings out just as loudly and clearly as an uncoated string does. If you're a fan of EXP strings, then you will love D’Addario XT strings.

Hex-core wounds, Fusion Twist steels

Inside each roundwound string in each XS Phosphor Bronze set is a NY Steel hexagonal core — the same as you'll find on a set of your favorite NYXLs or XTs. This angular core gives the wrap wire more surface to grab on to, yielding better tone and intonation. Plain steels in the XS Phosphor Bronze sets feature D'Addario's Fusion Twist technology. This process prevents slack in the twist, resulting in greater resistance against detuning and breaking.

The right tone for everyone

D’Addario believes that every acoustic guitar player should have a set of strings that match their sonic needs. That’s why they build strings with a range of construction methods and materials. Whether you go with the brightest 80/20 Bronze strings, the mellowest Silk & Steels, or anywhere in between, D’Addario has the perfect sound for everyone. Want to learn more? D’Addario: innovative strings since 1680

When you go with D’Addario, you receive far more than a great set of strings. You’re benefiting from three centuries of string-making experience. The D’Addario family tradition began in 1680 in the tiny town of Salle, Italy, where they made assorted instrument strings for over 200 years before relocating to New York in 1905. Since then, the D’Addario family has become a leader in string innovation. They designed the modern winding machine, introduced ultra-reliable hexagonal core wires, and pioneered the colored-coded ball end movement. More than 300 years since the family started making strings, D’Addario continues to set a global standard for quality and reliability. And every day, more than 500,000 strings emerge from their USA-based workshops.

Reviews

These are NOT like EXP's !!
I have been using D'Addario EXP 10 gauge coated acoustic guitar strings EXCLUSIVELY for well over 5 years. It appears that they are no longer available which is not good news for me at all. I ordered 2 sets of these strings hoping that they would be equivalent to the EXP's, but they are not.
I just installed these strings on my 1968 GIBSON DOVE acoustic and so far my initial reaction was as follows :

1) These are NOT as slippery as the EXP's ;
2) These are much more prone to "squeaks" ;
3) These are stiffer and must be made of a different alloy which is "tougher", more like the old monel steel strings (they feel like 11 gauge) ;
4) These sound different, maybe a little punchier than EXP's....the sound seems fine, actually ;
5) Longevity is yet to be determined, that is a big factor of course in any string eval ;
6) Being a MUCH superior metal, these may have increased fret wear on the nickel frets...again, yet to be determined.

Anyway, if you are evaluating the discontinuance of the EXP coated strings please count me in as a user who would want them back in production asap. As of now, I do have a couple of sets of EXP's to fall back on for a while. I may have to experiment with other strings meanwhile to try to find something "close" to EXP performance.
